Mrs May. Who's going to replace her as PM?

After her performance yesterday it's simply a matter of time? Or is it? Who is fit to replace her? I can't think of a time when there was nobody I'd entrust the country to by voting for them but now here we are. What on earth is going to happen?

If they need to elect a leader they will try and agree on 1 candidate so that it doesn't need to go to a vote. So needs to be neutralish , pro brexit , ministerial experience and broadly liked. Non threatening.

Nicky Morgan, Gove would support her if it wasn't to be him.

100/1- worth a flutter.

MadeleineMaxwell · 12/12/2018 14:04

No deal is not good, but it's not Brexits fault that the UK wasn't working through no-deal solutions two years ago - that's down to TM, the civil service, and so on.

That statement is bordering on religious thinking, isn't it? Brexit isn't an entity in and of itself. The millions who voted for it can't even decide what it is. Brexit is a product of TM, the civil service, Tory infighting, EU scapegoating and so on.

Brexit is the notion that the institution we helped shape isn't doing what we tell it to and is giving a voice and power to uppity little countries we used to rule outright. It's the idea that, in an increasingly globalised world, closing our borders and cutting our ties is a good thing.

Brexit isn't real, it's a cult. It's not Remainers' fault that Brexit is going to hurt and everyone in power knows it.

The gaming industry is worth many tones more to the UK than fishing-and employs more people.

BertrandRussell · 12/12/2018 14:06

*times

MutantDisco · 12/12/2018 14:14

The fishing industry can fuck off: 0.49% of GDP doesn't get to dictate what happens to the UKAngry

DaffoDeffo · 12/12/2018 14:16

they won't vote her out. No-one else really wants it. We're stuck with her for another 12 months

DaffoDeffo · 12/12/2018 14:17

I still don't think the deal will get voted through parliament so in a way we are back to square one

Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/12/2018 14:20

She's going to make a deal with the MPs . Keep me until we leave the eu then I'll resign

The very same thought occurred to me ...

DaffoDeffo · 12/12/2018 14:29

it's been reported that she'll do that

still leaves us no further forward

she should have just called the sodding vote!

derxa · 12/12/2018 14:34

Amber Rudd was looking very polished on Sky News.

jophie80 · 12/12/2018 14:50

She had no leadership skills, and she closes her self off in a time of crisis where she needed to be a good diplomate and bring parliament together. This shit show is utterly the fault of the Tories, this party should be dismantled. The party is an absolute joke, and mainly filled with self entitled cousins of the queen who don't know their arse from their elbow. How anyone can vote again in a general election for this shambolic party I have no idea.

Tellem2 · 12/12/2018 14:53

If she loses today Boris or Sajid

Deadbudgie · 12/12/2018 17:02

When will we find out?

alienor13 · 12/12/2018 17:14

Kier Starmer
I can dream too. Met him a few months ago and he seemed a genuinely caring human. Rare in politics.

katekat383 · 12/12/2018 17:17

Looks as if she will win. Has more or less promised she will leave before the next election.

katekat383 · 12/12/2018 17:17

Raab is in with a chance.

Augusta2012 · 12/12/2018 17:18

Nobody. We’re stuck with her. We’re fucked.

katekat383 · 12/12/2018 17:19

Looking good for him that he jumped ship early

AlaskanOilBaron · 12/12/2018 17:21

I would love to see Raab in the premiership.

Graphista · 12/12/2018 17:34

Another vote for keir starmer here - if only!

"But I'm somewhat embarrassed to admit that I thought Keir Starmer was in the Labour Party." Irony? He is!

I'm actually personally not anti JC but the press/msm have done such an excellent job of shafting him it's put a lot of voters off. Yet it seems not to have occurred to many WHY they're so determined to make him/labour difficult to elect. If he/labour were really so unelectable anyway why have the needed to go after them so strongly?

I dread to think what we'll get from the Tory pool. I don't think a hard brexiter will get in as don't think they have the support AND other Tory MPs want to keep their jobs and I think at this point they KNOW that would be an election loser - I think that's true regarding particular wannabe leaders too especially JRM, Rudd & Boris Johnson. I have (a few) friends who are Tory voters and even they wouldn't want them as PM!

Unfortunately I can see it being Hammond, gove or even hunt who is weirdly popular. Fox is possibly the least objectionable but frankly I hate the bloody lot! Have never and will never vote Tory.

Hated thatcher but even she wasn't as bad as this shower - she was at least competent!

"Rees-Mogg has no leadership ambitions" on the contrary I think he'd LOVE the power! Thankfully even fellow tories are not particular fans.

"If TM and her government decide to remain do you think over half the country, who vociferously voted leave, will lie down and accept it??" Actually largely yes. Most brexit voters were older and while they might do plenty of "furious of Tunbridge wells" type letters to mps and councillors I really don't believe there'll be organised meaningful protests. And even if there were recent govts have taken little to no notice of such actions it won't change things a jot!

In addition I've seen a fair few leavers here, on telly/press & in real life have changed their minds. Partly because it's being handled poorly, partly as they've realised they were misled, partly as they're now better informed.

What happened in the other countries that 'changed their mind' when their eu exit didn't happen?

Deadbudgie - I love your reality show idea! Certainly would sort the wheat from the chaff. I suggest a scots island a la castaway.

A GOOD PM Would have -

Organised a cross party, mixed on brexit committee to ascertain the facts, figures & difficulties

Not triggered art 50 before finding out the above

Once a brexit deal agreed by the above stayed firm on that option with govt & eu

Instructed govt to behave accordingly & not be divisive and as they'd be a good pm they'd have the command & presence this wouldn't be difficult - much as I loathed them thatcher & Blair would both have managed this.

"I'm always amazed whenever people say they want 'business leaders' to run the country. People in business are concerned with profit. That's it. That's their job. Not people's lives, or long term development strategies or building sustainable systems. Or making the best of a bad situation. The NHS is being handed to business leaders and people will die as a consequence" totally agree.

I've said it before I'll say it again, no sympathy for her she chose this (being pm) knowing it would mainly involve brexit and she failed to prepare either herself or the govt & thus has ended up failing everyone.

Protectionism Inc the complete fantasy of self sufficiency (especially since uk businesses were largely decimated in the 80's) doesn't work.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 12/12/2018 17:47

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for David Attenborough. 🤞🏻

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 12/12/2018 18:00

I think my dog should be Prime Minister. He’s quite sneaky but friendly and he’s old so he won’t outstay his welcome.

Honestly everyone seems like a terrible idea.

RoboticMary · 12/12/2018 18:04

She’s tried and failed. She needs to go. I’m hoping for Rees-Mpg and no deal.

RoboticMary · 12/12/2018 18:04

Rees-Mogg! Cold fingers!

PebbleDashed · 12/12/2018 18:07

JC has shafted himself in my eyes, and those of many others, by failing to ensure that the referendum took place on the basis of information not lies - ok he wasn't the main culprit, but he was in a position of power and didn't take responsibility.

And even more, for getting involved in the idiocy of TRA activism and working against womens' rights.
