To take Dd to Hospital

Wallywobbles · 06/12/2018 19:24

So Dd12 had a sore tummy yesterday. It's a band across her stomach from under her tummy button to the top of her thighs.

Last night she did 5 poos and vomited multiple times in the night.

This evening the pain is worse. 9.5/10. Pain killers are making no difference. Spasfon no difference either. She has a temp of 38.7. No vomit and no poo. She feels like she needs to poo. She hasn't eaten all day.

I've rung the French equivalent of 101. They said wait to see Dr. appointment at 11.45 tomorrow.

Tonight is the big student night so hospitals will be full later.

Do I go or not?

Hope your DD is on the mend soon OP. Keep us updated.

mumsastudent · 06/12/2018 22:36

don't want to worry you but please take her in & check she has got appendicitis - my son age 5 was sick for a couple of days with high temperature he had pain on his lower right abdomen -classic - but because of his age I didn't expect it. err on the side of caution please take dd to hospital tonight.

PermanentlyFrizzyHairBall · 06/12/2018 22:42

You made the right choice OP. Even if there's a 1% chance of DD needing hospital treatment better to go and check than stay at home worrying.

madmum5811 · 06/12/2018 22:42

You did the right thing taking her to the hospital. Hope everything is ok.

Fairenuff · 06/12/2018 22:42

So far there are only two posts from the OP. Let's hope people read them or the thread is going to fill up with 100s of posts saying 'take her'.

Troels · 06/12/2018 22:42

Glad you took her in, hope she's OK

Cheby · 06/12/2018 22:45

How’s she doing OP?

londonrach · 06/12/2018 22:54

Right decision op. Fingers crossed shes better soon x

Wallywobbles · 06/12/2018 22:54

They think it's probably gastroenteritis. Her blood sugar is very high bizarrely as she hadn't eaten today. She had a hot choc at 2pm nothing since.

They were concerned about diabetes, but she's not peeing more. No extra pain in lower right, so not appendix.

She's been given an anti vomit pill and now they're trying a compote.

To answer the earlier question we live in France. The big student nights are Thursday because they all go home at the weekends. Not really like the UK.

I hope they can sort her out soon.

[My appendicitis was nothing like that, but if it is hers don’t worry too much. Within a few hours of the pain starting I was in hospital and they took it out at gone midnight. Keyhole. The OP was fine and op recovery was fine. (Antibiotics were a whole different story).]

Iloveautumnleaves · 06/12/2018 23:17

Sorry x posted with you. My iPad obviously didn’t send it earlier.

thaegumathteth · 06/12/2018 23:18

Sounds like when dd (6) had mesocenteic adenitis (not sure on spelling!) she was in so much pain it was awful.

Iloveautumnleaves · 06/12/2018 23:22

French hospitals seem a bit obsessed with Gastroenteritis.

Once she’s recovered from this, it’s probably worth getting her properly checked out for diabetes as her blood sugars are high.

Hope she keeps the compote down.

TheChickenOfTruth · 07/12/2018 00:12

I had this - it was Meckel's. Fun times.

Wallywobbles · 07/12/2018 00:24

Compote went through her like a dose of salts. But we are now home. Thank you all for helping.

I think blood sugars raised are a sign of infection and sepsis so gastroenteritis would fit. I'm glad you're in the best place xx

How is she OP? That is a very high CRP level which may be indicative of bacterial infection. Did they say anything about the possible cause? I wouldn’t hesitate to take her back if she is not improving

mineofuselessinformation · 07/12/2018 22:35

To my layman's eye (although I have a child who is in remission from an autoimmune disease), that looks like a nasty infection.
Raised creatinine and white blood cells (leukocytes) are markers for this.
So it's probably a tummy bug.
Not fun for you or her, but if her immune system isn't compromised, she should be ok. It might take a while, though.

Lougle · 07/12/2018 22:42

They let you go home? Really? Is she keeping fluids down?? Her CRP is very high and her blood glucose is shocking. Did they double check that with a finger prick?

I would keep a close eye on her and if you have any doubts at all, represent to hospital with her without any shame.

BettaSplenden · 07/12/2018 22:48

That CRP is massive. Keep a close eye on her x

oxcat1 · 07/12/2018 22:50

Her CRP is certainly very high indeed, and yet what I assume are the white cells are raised at 18, but not hugely so, and certainly not in line with the CRP.

Not sure why a blood sugar of 5.8 is shocking? Not bad, I'd have thought.

I am not a medic, but I would wonder if such an elevated CRP was suggestive of inflammation, rather than infection?

Weenurse · 07/12/2018 22:51

I hope you get a diagnosis soon

BirdBrain85 · 07/12/2018 22:53

I’m a paediatric nurse - how’s your daughter now? I’m concerned as she has an extremely high CRP (“protein c reactive” on last page). Please get her seen again immediately if you’re worried at all. I’m quite shocked they let you go home to be honest.

Aurea · 07/12/2018 23:00

Appendicitis.
Push on her tummy gently on the right hand side below her belly button slightly towards her hip. If it hurts more when you release and stop pushing it points to an inflamed appendix. Please get her seen at the hospital just in case.
Good luck!
