How often do u shower/bath

Bigonesmallone3 · 03/12/2018 14:49

My DP showers everyday, I aim to shower/bath everyday but being a pregnant, working mum of two I skip the odd day through bloody exhaustion..
I was inspired by another thread about how often people wash there hair and it got me thinking..
So how often do u wash?..

OP posts:
BadLad · 04/12/2018 05:37

Every morning and nearly every evening.

Leontine · 04/12/2018 05:56

Every other day and wash hair twice a week.

LoubyLou1234 · 04/12/2018 06:03

Every day usually evening. I'm out of the house at 6:30 not home until 8:30 so evening shower. On days off sometimes morning sometimes evening but hair gets washed on days off 2-3 times a week.

Theperfectchangeling · 04/12/2018 11:32

grin yes but do you bleach-clean your toilet a minimum of 7 times a day??

Well, 10 times daily to be precise, (terribly slovenly I know) but we do replace the toilets with brand new ones weekly. Anything else would be tantamount to inviting Ebola to a house party.

00100001 · 04/12/2018 14:07

every ten minutes.

BarbaraofSevillle · 04/12/2018 14:13

I don't see why it would turn into WW3 and I hope it doesn't

Bless. When this thread starts to run out of steam, you could post follow up threads about how many bottles of shower gel or bleach people use a week or how often they change their sheets and towels.

The typical answers to all those questions is 'more than you could ever imagine'.

PeterIanStaker · 04/12/2018 14:39

I'm told people didn't smell at that time

That's not true. People more often smelled of stale sweat in those days (often combined with stale tobacco smoke), and they often had greasy hair. I remember teachers smelling terrible, and even our family doctor had BO.

Bigonesmallone3 · 04/12/2018 14:48

@BarbaraofSevillle
Or I could stick to things I was interested to know the answer in??
Ur so interested make ur own thread!

So patronising!

I have a bath every day, DD has here first then me then DH (we share the water). I have a shower after I’ve been for a run so that’s at least four days a week and I wash my hair then.

upsydaisydah · 04/12/2018 15:16

I always find these threads really interesting like it’s some kind of sociological anecdotal research Grin

I shower every other day, including washing my hair, so about 4-5 days a week. Obviously there are exceptions, I’m a nurse so sometimes I come off shift and would quite happily bath in Dettol let alone shower. I have naturally quite oily hair so on the day I don’t wash it it’s normally tied up or braided or whatever and it’s fine, doesn’t look greasy. I’ve tried washing it every day but my hair is too thick and long so it takes forever and my scalp gets itchy. Quick wash or a super fast shower (like 2 minutes to soap up and rinse off) on alternate days I don’t shower fully.

SilverLining10 · 04/12/2018 15:31

Sorry but I do think sharing the water with 3 people is gross.

I shower morning and evening. I live in a country with warm weather so it's a must.

BlackBeltInPresentWrapping · 04/12/2018 15:40

Nice name, Peter. There's plenty of people with that issue now - I wonder if your experience of there being more back then is common? Certainly nylon and polyester fabrics can't have helped some people. I would think you're right about the smoke, more people being smokers back then.

BlackBeltInPresentWrapping · 04/12/2018 15:54

I'd forgotten about bathwater sharing until I read Geekster's post. I think that was fairly usual too, up until the 1960s and 70s. That was weekly bathwater too, not daily like she describes. It made me smile, that some people still do that now and I admired the running order!

GivingBloodFeelingGreat · 04/12/2018 15:56

I have a bath every day.

Although I once saw somebody on here say that baths are "juvenile"

It's a bath with water in it. What's "juvenile" about it? Hmm

Only on Mumsnet...

I am genuinely agog at the people who only shower or bathe or wash their hair every other day or less! I would feel so utterly disgusting leaving the house without at least a shower and hair wash even if I then didn’t bother blow drying or putting makeup on. Being clean is the absolute minimum standard for me. I shower and wash my hair every morning without fail. Like PP have said, if I ever had the decision between being late and showering or being on time I’d be late and arrive clean (it has never happened cos I leave enough time in the morning to get ready).

People who haven’t showered in over a day do start to smell, it’s quite noticeable. So does unwashed hair that’s a few days old, as hair picks up scents and dirt like our bodies do. It’s a kind of awful fusty smell.

I’m surprised that people still ‘strip wash’, surely that’s more effort than just getting in the shower? To stand there naked and shivering while you specifically wash one area and then another? How do you properly rinse the soap and dirt off without running water?

Everyone who uses the phrase ‘pits and bits’ is BU, too 🤢

Nesssie · 04/12/2018 16:19

Shower or bath every evening (not a morning person so no way am I wasting that extra 20 minutes!) .

Occasionally I'll skip one evening shower, if life gets in the way and I just want to go to bed.

Wash hair 2/3 times a week, depending on which days I go exercise.

PartridgeJoan · 04/12/2018 16:25

I have a quick shower every morning and wash my hair once a week. My hair is super thick and I've noticed that the more frequently I wash it, the faster it gets greasy

thecatsthecats · 04/12/2018 16:26

Grin

I shower about 5-6 times a week. Evening showerer - my body sweats and goes clammy if I try to dress and move about too soon after a shower, and its definition of 'too soon' seems to extend to 2 hours. No way am I getting up that early to do so.

I have rest days at the gym, so coincide my no-shower days with those - usually Friday nights and Tuesday nights.

Storm4star · 04/12/2018 16:26

But that's the thing, a lot of us who've said every other day aren't leaving our homes every day. I wfh. If I'm going out then yes I shower, but sometimes if I'm not, I don't.

My mum is rigid like some people here. Every day shower, then hair then make up. She's getting older now and struggling with it. This routine she insists on now takes her two hours every day (and she hates it) but it's so ingrained in her now she can't just take it easy some days. I feel sorry for her.

MeOldChina · 04/12/2018 16:27

Shower or bath every day before bed. I also shower after exercise so twice a day on those days.

I wash my hair every 2-3 days

PartridgeJoan · 04/12/2018 16:27

@DragonMamma I've been considering soap in the shower but have always found it a bit drying... which brand are you using?

MeOldChina · 04/12/2018 16:32

@BaskingSharks lots of people do not need to wash their hair every day. If i did, my fine hair would get greasier quicker and would be very frizzy and dry at the ends.

My sister has very thick, tight curly hair. She washes her hair once a week.

Neither of us smell Hmm

BaskingSharks · 04/12/2018 16:34

If you don’t go out storm then crack on, it doesn’t matter at all as long as you’re not inflicting poor hygiene on other people (not you specifically just anyone who goes out into the world and mixes with others without being clean)!

Have you ever thought that maybe despite getting older your mum really enjoys taking care of herself and feels like she’s maintaining her identity as a woman and an individual by continuing to take pride in her appearance rather than slipping away into ‘generic old woman’? You say she hates it, but maybe she just says that to appease you when you seem to look down on her and pity her for it. If she truly hated it she wouldn’t be doing it. More power to her if she has the time, I know I’d rather do my morning routine if it took three hours than leave the house feeling unclean and like I wasn’t putting my best face forward to the world!

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 04/12/2018 16:38

I shower every evening apart from Saturday, when I shower mid/late morning & shave legs and pits and wash hair for seeing BF. So the longest I go without a shower is Saturday afternoon-Sunday evening unless I've got home at an anti-social hr. Then it's a quick shower in the am. Wash hair 2/3 times a week.

Storm4star · 04/12/2018 16:43

@BaskingSharks

No, she's said to me she hates it, it feels like a burden and takes half her day! (her words!) And she really isn't someone who takes pride in her appearance. She has worn jeans every day for the past 50 years! Has her hair cut as short as possible for practical reasons, so god knows why it takes her so long to faff around with that! She isn't one of these stylish old ladies a la Helen Mirren who is maintaining some glamorous look!

But it is different things for different people. I wouldn't spend two hours getting ready to go out (except for a fancy night out). I just wouldn't want to. As you said, as long as I don't inflict poor hygiene on other people then I'm not harming anyone. So as long as I don't smell, my teeth are brushed and my breath is fresh, the rest isn't relevant to anyone else.
