To ask whether you think Theresa May’s deal will make it through parliament?

In your opinion - will Theresa May’s deal be voted through parliament, and if not, what do you think will happen?

What would you like to happen?

(I know it’s been done to death, but I can’t believe what an important juncture we are at).

I hope not and there seems to be enough opposition to make it fail.
Maybe a general election soon?

ChangoMutney · 30/11/2018 22:10

What John said

wondering1101 · 30/11/2018 22:11

What would a GE bring though, Brexit wise?

Not a chance it'll make it through.

DUP will withdraw their support.

May will be forced out, part of me wonders if she'll call a second referendum in order to try save her job or even a GE but realistically I think she'll be ousted and then party big dicks will start their campaigns for the top job.

If there is a GE it'll almost certainly be a hung Parliament.

Brexit will be postponed until a new leader is elected.

It'll all rumble on for bloody ages.

abacucat · 30/11/2018 22:21

Yes I think it will because MPs will want to avoid the chaos of no vote.

Random18 · 30/11/2018 22:30

I am really hoping it doesn’t!

It’s not good enough. It was never going to be good enough. It was an impossible task that should never even had been started.

I hope she fails and there is enough momentum in Parliament for another public vote.

My MP though only cares about his career. He has calculated that supporting the deal will increase his chances of progression.

littlebillie · 30/11/2018 22:31

Yep it will go through as if it does not the mPs are not taking note of the democratic process.

I think the crash out will not be allowed by Europe. It's this vote or we remain in.

I voted to stay in the union but the country did not. The MP have to follow what the country voted for otherwise we are not a democracy

Random18 · 30/11/2018 22:34

But the leave campaign was built on lies - so how is that democracy?

Democracy is saying we made a mistake let’s vote again.

Then I’d Leave win, we 100% move forward with Brexit deal or no deal.

homeishere · 30/11/2018 22:36

No it won’t go through.

May will resign just like Cameron before her.

New election. Coalition of the left.

Article 50 extended so we can sort out the mess. Leading to another referendum and no brexit.

Jaxhog · 30/11/2018 22:38

I hope so. Brexit is bad enough, but a no-deal Brexit would be even worse. Although not as bad as a JC government.

Dodie66 · 30/11/2018 22:40

Nope

WitchesHatRim · 30/11/2018 22:40

Maybe a general election soon?

Nope. It isn't that simple to call one anymore.

Jaxhog · 30/11/2018 22:41

Problem with another Brexit vote is that it sets a precedent for re-voting for everything. I'd also like to see the Brexit vote overturned, but not at the price of democracy itself.

Beetlebum1981 · 30/11/2018 22:43

I really hope we have another referendum. What we're being offered is completely different to what was being sold to us before the 2016 referendum.

EwItsAHooman · 30/11/2018 22:43

It'll never happen but I do think there should be another vote now that everyone has more information on what Brexit is likely to look like, what the potential economic impact is, what the terms of leaving are, etc and should be along the lines of "this is the deal, are we still leaving - yes or no?".

The initial referendum was based on conjecture, no one knew how it was going to go because no country has done it before, there was a lot of blue skies bullshit on both sides that now can't be delivered on.

I don't think May will ever resign, she's too stubborn, although if I was her I would call a GE then resign as party leader and fuck off into the sunset having washed my hands of the whole mess.

Random18 · 30/11/2018 22:46

do you know what - my kids mean more to me than anything.
If having another vote means it appears ‘undemocratic’ I really don’t care.
People did not know what they were voting for. They were lies too. Many did it as a protest vote.
And it was only called due to Tory infighting.
My kids, all our kids deserve more than that.

WitchesHatRim · 30/11/2018 22:50

So what are you going to do if leave wins again Random18?

People did not know what they were voting for. They were lies too. Many did it as a protest vote.

So everyone who voted remain knew what they voted for and remain campaign told the truth?

I voted remain but sweeping statements don't help.

EwItsAHooman · 30/11/2018 22:50

Referendum results are advisory and not constitutionally binding in the same way as something like an election would be so having a second referendum would not be damaging to democracy.

Zippyzoppy · 30/11/2018 22:54

Witches - yes remainers did know exactly what they were voting for - the status quo.

Leavers voted on an array of truths, semi-truths and lies.

littlebillie · 30/11/2018 22:54

New referendum = neverendum

SisterOfDonFrancisco · 30/11/2018 22:57

I do think it will go through. What's the option at this point? MPs are too scared to stand up either way. Hard brexiters are opposing it of course but they haven't go the numbers to stop it.

WitchesHatRim · 30/11/2018 23:02

yes remainers did know exactly what they were voting for - the status quo.

Nothing however stays the same.....

Random18 · 30/11/2018 23:03

It’s not a sweeping statement

I do not like everything about the EU but I also have seen how my life has benefited with being in the EU.

If people still vote for Leave whilst knowing the truth then as much as i would be disappointed, it’s what he Country wants.

But come on, it was obvious to remainders during the referendum that the Leave campaign were lieing.
It’s sunk in for a lot of Leave voters now I think also.
And it is clear that no one knew what Leave really meant.

And what influence did Russia have?

Random18 · 30/11/2018 23:03

Apologies for the predictive text

StealthPolarBear · 30/11/2018 23:07

"If having another vote means it appears ‘undemocratic’ I really don’t care.
People did not know what they were voting"
Yes I started off saying democracy has spoken, we leave whether we like it or not but now, this is about my children's future. I cried a little bit earlier when I realised DH has lived his first four decades inside the EU. If this plan goes through I won't. I care about democracy but we were missold Brexit. You get compensation for missold ppi.
