In your opinion - will Theresa May’s deal be voted through parliament, and if not, what do you think will happen?

What would you like to happen?

(I know it’s been done to death, but I can’t believe what an important juncture we are at).

OP posts:
Imissgmichael · 30/11/2018 23:14

Random there were lies on both sides. I didn’t listen to any lies as I don’t trust politicians so speak for yourself. Oh and no, I’d still vote leave.

StealthPolarBear · 30/11/2018 23:20

Really? Are you happy with how all this is going? Genuine question, not goady

MyNameIsJane · 30/11/2018 23:23

My MP says he will vote against it.

IstanbulConstan · 30/11/2018 23:25

It will get through by a narrow margin.

If it fails, I would like MPs to talk to each other and find a way forward that avoids NO DEAL.

We spend a lot of tax payers money on MPs and it's their job to represent their constituents.

I don't want to spend more money on a referendum or GE, I would rather it go on the NHS, schools, children and disabled people.

Mrsjohnmurphy · 30/11/2018 23:25

It willing through, we will exit with a crap deal.

Mrsjohnmurphy · 30/11/2018 23:27

*will go stupid phone, there will be no drama.

LaurieFairyCake · 30/11/2018 23:33

It won't go through.

She will call an election.

Tories will gain a large majority and not need the DUP.

Then we're proper fucked. Proper, PROPER FUCKED.

YeOldeTrout · 30/11/2018 23:37

Pfffffttttt, on May's chances.
I would feel better about all this crap if Leave won, a 3rd Referendum.
Saying there were 'lies' on many sides isn't helpful.
Democracy means opportunities to change our minds.

Imissgmichael · 30/11/2018 23:50

No stealth I’m not happy how it’s all going. I think U.K. politicians on the whole have no backbone or negotiation skills. If the 2nd WW or
the Falklands crisis happened now we’d just capitulate.

I voted making an informed choice after watching the EU for years and previously being a hugh fan. I think it’s a failed project which will eventually crash and burn.

badlydrawnperson · 01/12/2018 00:01

The bookies seem to give it 50/50 which is not bad considering how many MPs are saying they don't want to support it (the deal).

The way things are going we might as well flip a coin.

NotSureThisIsWhatIWant · 01/12/2018 00:09

I’m hoping this will happen:

petition.parliament.uk/petitions/232984

But then I live in hope... I really can’t believe we are still being herded towards the cliff now that we know how badly it will affect us. Neither can I understand why we want the “freedom” to make agreements with other countries when we currently have the best agreement we could have with the countries that have the standards that we want.

I still can’t see what is so attractive about having a Trump as our closest ally (if he is interested after we loose the power we have to influence EU decisions, or negotiating deals with Saudi Arabia or China. I would much rather keep the partners we currently have as their standards align much better with ours.

moredoll · 01/12/2018 00:16

Doesn't look like it.
If there was an election I can't imagine thst it would go well. Corbyn's a real handicap.

Singletomingle · 01/12/2018 00:17

Remainers told of WW3 still waiting on that one, however as only brexiteers lied I have joined the army ready to fight. Or maybe thats bollocks and for every mislead brexiteer there was a mislead remainer just as a huge number of labour voters at the last election were mislead and conservative voters believed they were voting for brexit.

Flightoffancy75 · 01/12/2018 00:21

It’s not going to be noted through.

We’ll end up in a no deal or GE situation and a likely second vote as no deal is not an option as would ruin the country.

We’ve then waited 2.5 years and huge amounts of money on a ridiculous campaign that was a bad idea from the start and go back to the EU with our tail between our legs.

But. We told you so....

Disquieted1 · 01/12/2018 00:24

If anyone thinks a general election or a 'people's vote' will settle anything, they're in cloud cuckoo land.
Our relationship with Europe has been complicated for centuries. The last referendum was meant to settle things once and for all. Look how successful that was!

ragged · 01/12/2018 00:29

Brexiters keep saying that 'back in March' (someone, probably) Tusk offered a deal that was perfectly acceptable. As though there was an easy solution months ago. Stephen Nolan kind of went off on one caller earlier for claiming a rude opinion, but didn't object to the claim = 'There was a very easy simple solution that May completely ignored months ago'.

I can't figure out if there's a grain of truth in the claim (easy solution). I suspect the claimers are still ignoring Norn issues.

Topseyt · 01/12/2018 01:17

I suspect it might just squeak through. There is a lot of political posturing going on.

I am a remainer. If we must have Brexit though, I would prefer to avoid a "no deal" scenario. This deal is far from perfect, but it is what we are going to get.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 01/12/2018 01:20

It will go through on the second or third vote. MPs might not like it but as we get closer and closer to a 'no deal' Brexit they will have no choice.

akerman · 01/12/2018 02:32

No. It won't go through. Nor should it. A referendum based on lies, corrupted by criminal activity and vulnerable to foreign influence is no basis whatsoever for this cataclysmic change. That's not democracy - it's corruption. It should never have gone to a referendum, but I think a People's Vote is probably the only way forward, given the godawful mess we're in. If Leave can keep even 10% of their promises, they will win. This time it would be a fair win. At present it's riddled with corruption and cheating - it astounds me that people seem so happy to turn a blind eye to it. And claims that the Remain campaign also lied don't magically cancel out the lies we're expected to accept and live with. If someone loses a gold medal in sport through cheating, and then the silver medallist is also found to be a cheat, you don't just shrug and say 'oh okay, then, the gold medallist can just carry on.' You cancel the event.

akerman · 01/12/2018 02:33

Oh and Theresa May knows perfectly well that it is not just a choice between her deal and no deal. The EU has told us over and over again that we can remain. Donald Tusk said it again only yesterday.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 01/12/2018 02:37

It should never have gone to a referendum, but I think a People's Vote is probably the only way forward

Where is the guarantee that a second referendum wont make things 1000 times worse? That would just be 5 steps backwards.

akerman · 01/12/2018 02:51

There are no guarantees - the whole thing is a bloody mess. But at least people would have more knowledge of facts. One thing we do know is that any form of Brexit will leave the country poorer, and that no-deal will make things 1000 times worse.

What's your solution?

ragged · 01/12/2018 07:23

"One thing we do know is that any form of Brexit will leave the country poorer"

This is still just a prediction. And it was predicted repeatedly in early 2016 but didn't convince a majority of voters. The opposite happened. Gove declared people were sick of experts & BeLeavers labeled the negative projections 'Project Fear'.

There is almost nothing different that we 'know' in late 2018... the only thing we do know is that withdrawal absolutely won't be 'the easiest deal in history'.

AutumnCrow · 01/12/2018 07:31

Hilary Benn's amendment looks interesting.

www.theguardian.com/politics/2018/nov/30/snp-and-lib-dems-back-benn-amendment-to-prevent-no-deal-brexit

ForalltheSaints · 01/12/2018 07:34

I don't think it will. I'd like a referendum on the deal as it is not what anyone voted for. I think we will be poorer from leaving, it is just a question of by how much.
