Two black cleaners? Really?

Fresta · 27/11/2018 20:57

Watching 'How to Spend it Well' on ITV.

AIBU to think that having a load of kids make a mess and then getting two black women in to clean up after them is not really an image we should be reinforcing?

What were they thinking?

Why women cleaners? Why black women? Why couldn't it have been a man and a woman?

@namechanged0983 Could you please provide a link to those statistics?
And also tell me why a black woman cannot choose any career she wants because of rascism.

RoboticMary · 27/11/2018 22:48

Don’t be ridiculous OP Biscuit

namechanged0983 · 27/11/2018 22:50

@Dinosaursaremyfriends sure

"The study and the audit comes after the Guardian revealed recently that only 3% of Britain’s most powerful and influential people are from BAME groups, despite almost 13% of the UK population being of a minority background."

I didn’t watch the show so I can’t comment on the ill advised. On the flip side, I think it’s great people from ethnic minorities are getting more exposure in the media. I would hope the more people become accustomed to faces less similar to their own the more likely there will be a decrease in the disparity between those figures quoted by namechanged.

mothertruck3r · 27/11/2018 22:57

So, if it were two white women, that would have been ok? What a weird post.

everythingisginandroses · 27/11/2018 22:58

Cleaning is hard, unpleasant work - I've tried it and couldn't hack it. The city I work in is officially 9% black, as at the 2011 census. In the 16 years I have worked in offices there, I can only recall seeing one white cleaner. People notice this, anyone who says otherwise is being disingenuous.

Fresta · 27/11/2018 22:59

winter, you clearly have missed the point- I don't think there is much point reiterating it.

What a load of utter parp that no cleaners are white.

Fuck me some people are coming out with some shit on this thread! Hmm

@namechanged0983
That still doesn't mean mean aren't allowed to choose the career path they want. There are many black women I know, instead of going for these roles are choosing to start their own business and doing very well for it, if however they have not been chosen for a role they have applied for based solely on the colour of their skin, then of course that is rascism.

Yidette86 · 27/11/2018 23:02

Winterfell... Some people love creating an issue out of nothing.

I wouldn't bother, you're not going to get sensible replies.

JudasPrudy · 27/11/2018 23:04

You should probably avoid the BBC documentary about how babies brains develop OP. When you see the experiment about white babies choosing between people of two races to play with your keyboard might not be able to hack the furious typing to OFCOM.

Bejazzled · 27/11/2018 23:04

Imagine the furore when they get told on the next job, "sorry we can't give you the contract, intersectionality you know"

Lol

MonsterTequila · 27/11/2018 23:05

Op have you ever worked for a cleaning company?
Plenty of Men & Women of all races, ethnicities & education levels. Infact, I would say, in my 9 years majority have been men.
There is no ‘stereotype’ in the real world to be reinforced.
Your post is ridiculous.

Fresta · 27/11/2018 23:09

everything I agree. Having a white cleaner doesn't prove anything- of course there are white cleaners, of course there are black women who employ white cleaners. That doesn't negate the statistics which show that black women are far more likely to be employed in low paid, low status roles than women in general are. TV programmes could help by not reinforcing this image, but by counteracting it. Incidentally, the children were a mixed bunch of races, and predominately ethnic minorities with white children being the minority. Not sure if this makes it better though.

OP posts:
namechanged0983 · 27/11/2018 23:11

@Dinosaursaremyfriends they are self deselecting because they know the odds aren't in their favour. Unfortunately just because we all have friends that have bucked trends doesn't make it the norm. The stats prove that there is an issue and by reinforcing the stereotypes it demonstrates how society sees people like you.

@WinterfellWench just because you say it's not an issue doesn't make it so.

nancy75 · 27/11/2018 23:11

Op I understand your view point, but the other alternative is not employing 2 black women in order to send out the right message - in which case the women miss out on the job because of their skin colour. That feels more wrong to me

Villanelley · 27/11/2018 23:13

I'm actually horrified you even noticed. Why the heck can't people just be people? The world is going backwards.

I often think that too, Annie, this hyper vigilance doesn't seem like progress. We're probably just hopelessly out of step. Confused

Fresta · 27/11/2018 23:16

Judas, I did see the baby brain programme yesterday- it wasn't offensive at all, neither was I 'offended' by the Phillip Schofield show. People clearly can't read on this thread!

OP posts:
Ohmno · 27/11/2018 23:20

No op people understand your point perfectly it's just your point is stupid and you like most of the sjw npcs out there lack the awareness to see that.

SilverySurfer · 27/11/2018 23:26

I'm sure the two black female cleaners will be thrilled to be unemployed to enable the OP to show off her 'right on' credentials

Utterly pathetic.
