Two black cleaners? Really?

Watching 'How to Spend it Well' on ITV.

AIBU to think that having a load of kids make a mess and then getting two black women in to clean up after them is not really an image we should be reinforcing?

What were they thinking?

Why women cleaners? Why black women? Why couldn't it have been a man and a woman?

You seem to be suggesting they thought ‘We're two black women; all we can do is clean because that’s all society thinks we’re good for’.

I'm not, and I apologise if it came out that way. I was trying to say that it's easy to explain a lot of things with "well it's their choice" when the reality is that sometimes due to societal issues(age, gender, race, economic situation) there are very few options or just one. It's not really a choice then is it?

I wouldn't begrudge someonr a job just because they are black and people might think that you're racist.

I am a 'driven' white woman from a 'middle class' background and yes I chose the cleaning industry in which to set up my business, just have these two have done.

I 'turned my back on my 'white collar' qualifications' but am finding my previous training and job experience to be invaluable in the running of my business.

I am also heavily involved in the running of a trade association for domestic cleaning business owners and a large proportion of these business owners have given up a 'professional career' in order to set up their cleaning business. Like me, they chose an 'unconventional career' because they enjoy providing the service and their business is a dream they have made into a reality, just like myself. It's not easy and there is far more goes on behind the scenes for the seamless running of a cleaning business than just the physical activity involved.

That is why i find this thread so galling. The nature of the cleaning these two ladies have chosen is highly skilled and the business itself is not for the faint-hearted. It feels like a lot of people are diminishing both them and their 'cleaning' as the same as a commercial cleaner who is employed directly or a 'cash in hand' private cleaner who is not interested in setting up a legitimate business, rather than the specialist cleaning business owners that they are.

As I have said before, although domestic cleaning is not cheap at the top end, the type of cleaning these ladies provide is non-standard, requires investment in a expensive training courses and commands a LOT of money per project.

I imagine if they read this thread they will find it extremely patronising.
