there is a power cut while im having something done and im halfway through it e.g like a hair colour.

im asking because Storm Diana is imminent and i have an appointment booked this week.

Back in Jan there was a power cut the day after a storm on the day of my appointment but at that time they hadnt started my treatment yet.

power cuts round here seem to be getting pretty common now

i dont really want to be sent home to wash the dye out myself if this happens because i have long hair and would end up with dye all over my clothes and coat.

has anyone experienced anything like this?

Hahahaha this is the best AIBU this week. Is this real? Please let it be real Grin

Frequency · 28/11/2018 00:11

I didn't read it like that at all. I read it as what are the salons legal obligations wrt rinsing the colour if there is no power?

I don't post a great deal on MN and even I recognise Helena. She's not a troll, nor has she ever come across as spiteful or litigious. And even if she did try to sue the salon/stylist it would either be for peanuts (the cost of a new top or coat) or their insurance would deal with it and if the insurance company could pass the buck to the power company they would.

Salons/stylists have people trying to sue them constantly. Ours has only just finished dealing with a claim from a woman who asked for hair extensions, bought her own ratty, synthetic hair from Wish after refusing to pay our supplier's prices and then promptly buggered off to Tenerife three days after fitting ignoring all aftercare advise. When her hair extensions matted beyond repair she tried to claim back the cost of top dollar hair, fitting and for emotional distress Hmm

If all I had to worry about was a few people wanting me to buy them a new top because theirs was stained I would be a very happy bunny and would probably also invest in better PPE.

HelenaDove · 28/11/2018 00:11

i will accept that award Sauvage.

Ta Frequency. i think the power companies need to do better. i should have made that clear in my post

the winter has barely started and yet last week there was already problems in Portsmouth and this week in Kent.

oh and that silly woman with the hair extensions What is the point of having that done and then not following advice either before or after Confused

The insurance company asked her to provide a receipt for her £90 a pack Remy hair and proof of her 'deep emotional distress'. Oddly enough, after a bit of back and forth trying to deal with the salon directly instead of our insurers, she went quiet. We never did get the receipt or proof of her emotional trauma.

If you wore a raincoat constantly you would be prepared for all weathers and all moments of left on hair dye. One of those capes would work and would leave your hands and arms free to weave or feel your way along a powerless darkened street. They are quite cheap to buy as well.

EmbraRocks · 28/11/2018 06:41

I am so confused!! Is this a hypothetical thread and not actually about suing a hairdresser as the OP has now said she HAD NO INTENTION OF DOING THAT and is 'really' about the evils of corporate companies?

PumpkinKitty82 · 28/11/2018 06:43

You don’t need electricity to wash your hair ..
As long as your appointment is in the day o don’t see the issue .
You need a new hobby I think

samsamsamsamsamsam · 28/11/2018 12:08

Do you know what - this literally happened when I was in the hairdressers, last week.

What did I do? I left, with wet hair.

Get a grip

brizzledrizzle · 28/11/2018 12:15

Get a grip

I don't mean to split hairs but would that be a hair grip?

TheLittleDogLaughed · 28/11/2018 12:23

I feel this thread is (hair)sliding into nonsense.

I thought this thread was about being at the mercy of the power companies Grin
This is happening today. Tbh at least the people that really shouldn't be at the ED might stay away.

i was just coming on to post that The back up generators have failed Staff are having to walk around in the dark. First world country?

www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1051471/Southampton-hospitals-major-incident

A spokesman for University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust said all patients were safe but all non-urgent activity had been cancelled. He said: "University Hospital Southampton has suffered a major power cut and has declared a major incident. All patients in Southampton General and the Princess Anne hospitals are safe. "All non-urgent activity is cancelled at present. Please do not attend the hospital for non-urgent care such as outpatients, routine X-rays or blood tests

"We are asking relatives not to visit the UHS until further notice. Staff are busy caring at present and we would further ask you not to call switchboard if possible.

"The emergency department is closed for all except urgent emergencies.

"We will keep you informed as the day goes on and are grateful for your support at present and apologise to those whose care is now delayed."

Firefighters deal with a small blaze in a rear room.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue spokesman, Simon Carr, said: "We were called to Southampton General Hospital at 08:41.

"Seven engines and support vehicles were on the scene. The incident was a fire in an electrical room caused by an overloaded inverter.

"Two sets of breathing apparatus, two jets and fire extinguishers were used."

One person, who wished not to be named, said: "The place is in complete darkness, there are no lights and there is no power.

"The backup generators haven't started and people are walking around with torches." Another person said: "There is a major incident going on at the Southampton General Hospital and there is no power and the backup generators have failed to start.

"There are hardly any lights on."

More to follow.

i wonder how long NHS computers take to reboot

the 70s was getting on for 50 years ago and actually in a different century

Oh, purleeese! I'm 50 and certainly remember those times. We're not ancient, decrepit and suffering from memory loss just because we're 50 plus, you know.

Meanwhile, on a general scale, over the last few years I've seen occasional reports that are highlighting that Britain has a power gap looming, in what we are able to provide (some power plants may have to shut down) and when new plants/providers come online.

There is every chance we could be facing power cuts unless the government gets to grip with new plants fast. New plants should have been online to take the place of ageing plants years ago.

CookPassBabtridge · 28/11/2018 14:05

I'm so glad someone has finally brought up the weird spacing on OPs posts, they are always like this for some reason. Grin

I feel this thread is (hair)sliding into nonsense.

A hair breadths away perhaps?

sheldonesque · 28/11/2018 14:53

I am not sure I like your toner

But let us brush that aside...

brizzledrizzle · 28/11/2018 14:57

Only on conditioner that you don't make your objections permanent.

sheldonesque · 28/11/2018 14:58

Comb over here and say that...

brizzledrizzle · 28/11/2018 15:00

I'll pass thanks, I'm all set here so I'll just give you a wave.

sheldonesque · 28/11/2018 15:02

Don't get snippy with me...

Nicknacky · 28/11/2018 15:10

I think you lot need to cut it out.

sheldonesque · 28/11/2018 15:12

I have to mullet over but on reflection you get the crown brizzle

I have to cut my losses and have the dye run down my neck

I hope we can patch test things up? x

peachypetite · 28/11/2018 15:13

Why do you keep posting about power cuts?!

justtryingtodoitright · 28/11/2018 15:16

This OP loves a power cut! Bizarre!
