Any hairdressers about? Where do i stand legally if...........

there is a power cut while im having something done and im halfway through it e.g like a hair colour.

im asking because Storm Diana is imminent and i have an appointment booked this week.

Back in Jan there was a power cut the day after a storm on the day of my appointment but at that time they hadnt started my treatment yet.

power cuts round here seem to be getting pretty common now

i dont really want to be sent home to wash the dye out myself if this happens because i have long hair and would end up with dye all over my clothes and coat.

has anyone experienced anything like this?

I also have a Very Serious Question:

What is the legal position if, while I am browsing in my second favourite gift shop, I sniff some pot pourri and get a piece of lavender stuck up my nose?

WorraLiberty · 26/11/2018 14:26

OwlsAndBears you'll have to pick it out before you leave the premises, or you'll get done for shoplifting.

Whyohwhy65 · 26/11/2018 14:27

So because there was a storm 10 months ago when you had a haircut you think there will definitely be one at the exact time you get your haircut again.
Lesson learned. Check the weather before going to a salon Grin

DerekTheWonderdog · 26/11/2018 14:27

I, strangely and coincidentally, know the answer to this. I've just finished a test case which had the exact same scenario.

It's a bit complicated, legally, but what would happen is you would be awarded £1m instantly, this might go up to £5m if your hair and your dignity were ruined.

Back in the real world .... they'd wash it off with cold water and you'd go home and look at Rightmove to see if you could move to an area that doesn't have such frequent power cuts.

RosieStarr · 26/11/2018 14:29

First world problems, lol!

DaysOfCurlySpencer · 26/11/2018 14:33

Perhaps you should stay at home just in case.

You could:

Change your appointment to a non stormy day

Take all your clothes off when leaving the salon to stop dye getting over your clothes

Buy a box of dye and colour it yourself at home before the storm hits

Wear a hat over your roots instead

Shave your head so you have no roots

Cut your head off so you stop worrying about your hair appointment

EdisonLightBulb · 26/11/2018 14:36

Is the cold damp weather keeping the batshit inside on MN at the moment?

Let's hope for better weather soon...

bluebuttonface · 26/11/2018 14:39

The last time I went to the hairdressers I took one of those big bottle of waters: I could have used that to rinse my own hair out.

HTH, OP!!

Purpleartichoke · 26/11/2018 14:41

Unless your hairdresser is on a well, I wouldn’t worry.

(No electricity means no well pump so no water)

onalongsabbatical · 26/11/2018 14:41

Good lord, is this kind of thing, a thing? I mean, power cuts mean that hospitals and schools can be disrupted and kids can be cold in their houses and all kinds of shit but hair dye really, really never figured in my power-cut-fantasy scenarios. I think you should write short stories, OP, you have one powerful imagination. Dye dripping down your best coat as you trudge home in the cold and darkened town, it's Dickensian!

W.T.A.F?!

TwllBach · 26/11/2018 14:45

...Have you just given out someone's postcode, OP? Or your own?

sheldonesque · 26/11/2018 14:45

In my salon, you'd be tied outside to the front door.

The rain would rinse your hair and your clothes and coat. We'd haul you back inside. shove curlers in, then pop you back outside for your blow dry. Why have the expense of a generator?

Disclaimer. I do not have a salon. Or knowledge of storms. Or hair.

seastargirl · 26/11/2018 14:45

Have you meant to put that tweet including your postcode on?

SistersOfPercy · 26/11/2018 14:48

Obviously you need one of those magic little clear headscarves of the 70's that every woman over 40 wore when coming out of the hairdressers. They are instant protection to all storms.

Obviously this will not help inside the premises.

Omzlas · 26/11/2018 14:49

I've heard that origami is a pleasant hobby OP
As is plaiting your pubes

Either way, PLEASE find a hobby, for the love of god

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 26/11/2018 14:50

2 power cuts while you've been in there.
You must be bleedin jinx.Grin (lighthearted) hence the grin.
I.don't suppose you would hVe a leg to stand on legally. You can't STOp wind from howling, can you

sheldonesque · 26/11/2018 14:51

There is a lot to be said for a Rainmate sister

They protected many an 80s perm for me and my chums back in the day. They maybe shouldn't have bothered...

StereophonicallyChallenged · 26/11/2018 14:56

Just in case this is serious Hmm I'd say a storm is an 'act of God' (or modern equivalent wording) and therefore is outside of normal consumer rules regarding insurance etc.

Does this help OP 😂

StereophonicallyChallenged · 26/11/2018 14:58

What I mean is, there's normally caveats in insurance for acts of God (ie bad weather) I think.

HelenaDove · 26/11/2018 15:00

it is a problem in this area when its stormy. Its not the power cut Its the time it takes to fix

A lot of faith and trust was lost in the winter of 2013
