Any hairdressers about? Where do i stand legally if...........

there is a power cut while im having something done and im halfway through it e.g like a hair colour.

im asking because Storm Diana is imminent and i have an appointment booked this week.

Back in Jan there was a power cut the day after a storm on the day of my appointment but at that time they hadnt started my treatment yet.

power cuts round here seem to be getting pretty common now

i dont really want to be sent home to wash the dye out myself if this happens because i have long hair and would end up with dye all over my clothes and coat.

has anyone experienced anything like this?

What a horrible bunch of people. Shame on you all.

Anxiety Disorder can present itself in many ways. Some people need to consider every eventuality.

HelenaDove · 26/11/2018 23:40

i do get anxious Especially when its already happened.

Anxieties are embarrassing to share with people sometimes because you know that you are thinking of an eventuality that most people probably don't think of. Like the storm whilst in a hairdressers. For most people they would deal with it in the moment but for some this unexpected disruption from normality can be upsetting.

I was gutted reading the replies on the first page. How many people that jumped on the person who thought of a situation most wouldn't.

SylviaAndSidney · 26/11/2018 23:51

Some of the replies on here are pretty mean Sad

Hope you’re feeling ok Helena.

I've just wondered, if I have a power cut how will I flush my toilet 😏😂

azulmariposa · 27/11/2018 00:12

What about how the wind and rain will make your hair look as soon as you go outside? Grin

When we had a water issue at the salon I train in we got the cafe up the road to boil us a big vat of water on their elecrric stove, which we then tipped over clients with a jug.

The salon I train in is part of a big complex and some numpty arranged for the gas to be cut off for maintenance works without telling us. They told the food places, just not us Hmm

Apparently the cafe has always been our emergency supplier of hot water ever since the salon switched from electrically heated water to gas and had boiler issues for a while.

I imagine your salon will have something in place to access hot water if power cuts are frequent. There are certain things like bleach/perm lotion etc that can cause serious chemical burns if left on too long so their plan won't be to send clients home with chemicals on their head/hair.

Coolaschmoola · 27/11/2018 00:44

Cold water is better for coloured hair anyway... misses point

Also, from a legal point of view if your clothing was ruined by a colour seeping onto it, the salon's insurance would cover it.

Though, most of the time the salon just pays from its own pocket as it's less hassle and expense. Unless you're wandering around in the latest Vivienne Westwood, I would expect the salon would either take your top, have it professionally cleaned (aka sent home to someone's grandma whose ace with Vanish) or pay for a replacement.

If you're using a demi or semi colour they wash out of clothing after a few washes anyway.

But the salon won't send you home with colour on. The damage it could cause if they left you with it on to rinse yourself and you forgot or left it too long is not worth it to them. They will have a plan in place to heat water to rinse the colour if the power goes off and will most likely offer you a voucher for a free blow dry.

Satsumaeater · 27/11/2018 11:04

Years ago I was having my hair highlighted and there was a bomb scare in the shopping centre where the salon was. I had to run down the road, all robed up and with the papers in my hair, to another salon to have the colour rinsed off. I had to go back to get my hair cut afterwards as they wouldn't borrow another hairdresser's scissors.

Oysterbabe · 27/11/2018 11:04

When seeking legal advice I always ask a hairdresser.

PinsPegs · 27/11/2018 11:46

.

Frequency · 27/11/2018 11:49

There's actually an entire section in one of the theory units for hairdressing that addresses a salon's legal duties both to the client and it's staff. I believe it is the health and safety unit though the client consultation unit and working in the hair industry also touch on it. So, for this piece of specific legal advise a hairdresser would know the answer more than a solicitor would.

Katherine2626 · 27/11/2018 17:57

Oh dear. What a first world problem. The salon would still have water, and no doubt a tank of hot water too, so I expect you could be rinsed and towel dried in the very worst scenario.

Missingstreetlife · 27/11/2018 18:01

Get a later appointment

Jent13c · 27/11/2018 18:04

Sometimes my husband says I'm overly anxious and should speak to someone about it. Of course the thing I'm panicking about seems so huge in my perspective that I cannot understand why he is so chill. After this forum I can see things how he sees it.

WTF? Where on this thread has the OP stated she suffers from anxiety disorder? Confused

Liketoshop · 27/11/2018 18:12

If that the extent of your life's worries don't risk getting your hair coloured in what sounds like a back street clip joint!

HelenaDove · 27/11/2018 18:26

some of you really need to read the Brexit webchat.

onegiftedgal · 27/11/2018 18:28

If you can afford the extortionate price of a salon colour then I think you could take a towel with you (or several if you are feeling flush) in case there is a power cut 😂 and comfortably afford to ditch it afterwards don't you?
