there is a power cut while im having something done and im halfway through it e.g like a hair colour.

im asking because Storm Diana is imminent and i have an appointment booked this week.

Back in Jan there was a power cut the day after a storm on the day of my appointment but at that time they hadnt started my treatment yet.

power cuts round here seem to be getting pretty common now

i dont really want to be sent home to wash the dye out myself if this happens because i have long hair and would end up with dye all over my clothes and coat.

has anyone experienced anything like this?

We have an agreement with Mandarin Palace that they will use their gas hobs to heat water for us in their huge rice pans and carry them across the road to us. We provide biscuits and squash during the brief wait. It heats faster in woks, but it’s a lot harder to transport.

Doesn't everyone own a 'hair dye storm day' suit to wear in such scenarios?

Like a sexy boiler suit with a panel of towelling down the back. Love mine Wink

I never knew the water tap ran on electricity.

Why would you have to go home to wash the dye out yourself? The shampoo sinks will still work if the power is off.

HelenaDove · 26/11/2018 15:20

@WizardofToss yes and it seems to be becoming the norm

I'd just like to pipe up in OP defence that she is the last person to be a "first world problem" person!

I imagine they'd rinse the dye out with cold water if necessary. They may invite you back at another time for a wash and blow dry to 'apologise'.

VanGoghsDog · 26/11/2018 16:08

Hornchurch has been holding a grudge since 2013? Worse than my dad!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 26/11/2018 16:13

@HelenaDove - if the worst came to the worst, and they couldn’t rinse out the dye, they could wrap up your hair in cling film until you can get home - that would keep the dye off your clothes, and you could put a hat you don’t mind being stained over it.

Or, as others have said, you could get it rinsed out with cold water.

But I think you’d have to be very unlucky to have this happen to toy twice.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 26/11/2018 16:14

Grr - to you, not to toy. Blush

MenstruatorExtraordinaire · 26/11/2018 16:17

Actually this happened to my friend who has very long hair. The water did go off as well and she had to have the colour washed off with cold Evian water 🤣😂😁 bottle by small bottle....

MenstruatorExtraordinaire · 26/11/2018 16:18

Plus her hair was overbleached because the colour was on for too long so it is a valid concern op.

WorraLiberty · 26/11/2018 16:18

Blimey, I'm surprised you live in such a lovely, fairly affluent area OP.

From past posts, I assumed you lived in a ghetto like mine Grin

shesaysgoes · 26/11/2018 16:24

A little known fact it would appear but probably not relevant in this case.

My water at home comes from a well via a pump house which electricity to run, if we get a power cut we also have no water!

Royal pain in the ass and believe it or not only 20 miles from London and not in the arse end of nowhere! Smile

shesaysgoes · 26/11/2018 16:25

*requires electricity

shesaysgoes · 26/11/2018 16:30

Another useless fact, we are a private equestrian residence. If the power goes for an extended period of time, our electricity supplier has to supply generators free of charge to enable us to get water for the yard. Which conveniently also serves the house Smile

IncyWincyGrownUp · 26/11/2018 16:31

The local Toni and guy was evacuated by the fire brigade many years ago due to a neighbouring shop being ablaze. All problems with hair were made good by the salon at no further cost to the customers.

I’d expect that to be the case for the somewhat ludicrous example given by the OP too.

EmbraRocks · 26/11/2018 16:43

Ditto worra!!

FlippinNora1 · 26/11/2018 16:57

Several years ago my friend was halfway through colonic irrigation when the water went off. Half a colonic plus no working toilet or running water. Needless to say it was all pretty shit Shock

She was offered a free replacement session but never took it up.

storm11111 · 26/11/2018 16:59

Mrs Helena Dove

Please present your case to the court.

Well your honour, i was sat at the hairdressers, perusing my Vogue magazine, having my 6 week regular colour treatment and to my dismay the power was cut off. I was sat there waiting for the emergency generator to kick in but to my absolute horror there was none!

I never did get to find out how to get the perfect bikini body and my coat was dyed ombre blonde by the time i got home! (this power cut also bizarrely affected the water supply)

Henceforth i demand the hair salon owner be put behind bars for failing in her duty of care.
