Why are only some foods deemed acceptable for breakfast

Why are pork and fish in various forms normal for breakfast when chicken or lamb would be viewed as odd by most people (in the UK I mean)?

Also why are things like leftover curry/pizza/Chinese so good for breakfast? I also happen to think chocolate tastes its best if it’s the first thing you’ve eaten that day.

But please don’t get me started on ‘breakfast biscuits’ Hmm

What’s your favourite breakfast? Is it something unacceptable?

Leftovers definitely make the best breakfast food. Can be curry, roast, pizza, Chinese, YUM!

PawPawNoodle · 24/11/2018 22:16

Honestly my favourite breakfast is a slab of lasagne that's been in the fridge since last night's dinner, left to rise to room temp.

FourFoxCakes · 24/11/2018 22:16

We just eat normal food, whatever we fancy.

Shedpod · 24/11/2018 22:18

Yes I think for it to be at room temperature is necessary. Roast potato out of the fridge - not great. Roast potato that’s been left in the oven overnight = heaven

I don’t really ‘get’ cereal tbh

Leftover fried rice chips and curry that's been left in the microwave overnight is heavenly

NurseryFightClub · 24/11/2018 22:22

I like to leave my pudding from the nights before for breakfast. Always prefer sweet in the morning

JudasPrudy · 24/11/2018 22:22

The best breakfast is Jaffa cakes Biscuit

Grimbles · 24/11/2018 22:22

Yeah, the 'rules' do seem odd!

It's like you wouldn't have a slice of fruitcake for breakfast but a fruit muffin is OK Grin

UrsulaPandress · 24/11/2018 22:22

Last nights ban bread heated up and spread with honey.

UrsulaPandress · 24/11/2018 22:22

Naan.

abigboydidit · 24/11/2018 22:23

I completely get this. DS had milk and egg allergies which he has now outgrown but his tastes are still suspicious of them. His breakfast tends to be soup or leftovers from the evening before. Somehow it's okay to have a bacon roll but not a bowl of cottage pie?!

Girlfrommars77 · 24/11/2018 22:24

I hate having anything sweet for breakfast - loathe cereals- so eggs, ham etc in any form is good. And you’re right would rather eat left over savoury then sugar laden cereal

WeirdHandDryers · 24/11/2018 22:24

Black pudding ❤️ Nothing else comes close

CloserIAm2Fine · 24/11/2018 22:25

I’m not sure leftover takeaway comes under the definition of “breakfast foods” and tbh it’s never been something that’s appealed to me.

My favourite breakfast is an Irish breakfast roll (fried breakfast in a baguette) bought from a deli counter in a convenience store. It’s an Irish institution and the deli counters there are far nicer than the lukewarm sausage rolls you get in convenience stores over here!

Failing that, it would be crispy bacon on a homemade bacon and Stilton bread roll.

Usually I have a cereal bar at work though!

Hiphoray123 · 24/11/2018 22:25

Cereal is a marketing success story. Kellog originally used excess corn to create corn flakes as a way of not wasting any of the harvest. Over generations the big companies have convinced as that cereal is what we have for breakfast.
In japan, there is no such thing as breakfast foods. They will eat whatever

ShesABelter · 24/11/2018 22:25

I had a cheese and pickle sandwich for breakfast this morning at 7. Felt wild 😂

Julianaa · 24/11/2018 22:27

I like yesterday's bread, lightly toasted, with olive oil and macerated fresh tomato. It's a very common breakfast where we live. And buckets of black coffee.

I also like a fruit salad, if someone else has prepared it. I can't be chopping and deseeding fruits first thing.

shouting · 24/11/2018 22:27

I'm not a morning person and I struggle to eat first thing, I don't feel hungry and can only manage something really bland. Meat, rich or spicy food for breakfast would give me the dry heaves. Hence cereal or toast.

ShesABelter · 24/11/2018 22:28

One of my friends never has "normal" breakfast. She often has curry and things. It's actually better for you if home made than the likes of sugar laden breakfast cereal.

I can't handle cereal. Stuff floating in milk gives me the boak.

formerbabe · 24/11/2018 22:29

I've always hated cereal and toast. So dry, bland and like cardboard to me. I'd only eat them if there's was nothing else.

FourFoxCakes · 24/11/2018 22:29

Sounds like she likes cinnamon ShesABelter?

Shedpod · 24/11/2018 22:30

@shouting I get what you’re saying, but the thought of a big bowl of milk makes me heave Grin I know lots of people who say they would only have milk on cereal or in tea/coffee and wouldn’t think of drinking it. I think this is down to cereal-related brainwashing as pp said

I want an Irish breakfast roll now

It's always amused me that Italians eat cake for breakfast. And why not...?
