Why are only some foods deemed acceptable for breakfast

Why are pork and fish in various forms normal for breakfast when chicken or lamb would be viewed as odd by most people (in the UK I mean)?

Also why are things like leftover curry/pizza/Chinese so good for breakfast? I also happen to think chocolate tastes its best if it’s the first thing you’ve eaten that day.

But please don’t get me started on ‘breakfast biscuits’ Hmm

What’s your favourite breakfast? Is it something unacceptable?

Because cereal is weird. It’s like baby food or something.

Cereal is weird as pp said. How can something swimming in liquid taste so dry?!

sophisticatedsarcasm · 24/11/2018 22:59

Bacon sarnie first all the way, second fave breakfast is beans on toast with black pudding 😍😍

sophisticatedsarcasm · 24/11/2018 23:00

Leftover Chinese and pizza.... don’t like curry the n3xt day though 😊

SnailorSwift · 24/11/2018 23:01

I don't do cereal either but I do love porridge made with almond milk and topped with raspberries and honey.

I went through a phase of eating cold rhubarb crumble, CoYo, raspberries and chopped Brazil nuts for breakfast and it was delightful!

LittleMe03 · 24/11/2018 23:01

Dominos pizza tastes better the next morning heated in the microwave for a minute than it does the night before when it arrived hot and fresh! 😄

justforareply · 24/11/2018 23:02

I like leftover apple apple crumble or bread and butter pudding best
Mince pies are definitely breakfast food, as is Christmas cake nearer the time
I'm not a cereal fan

Fresta · 24/11/2018 23:02

Cake is THE best thing to have for breakfast- leftover cream cake, christmas cake, even leftover sponge pudding or crumble is good! Scones are nice too!

bofsy1 · 24/11/2018 23:03

Shedpod,

This always makes me laugh, re the Irish Breakfast, the clip quality is not great, but you will get the message!

Gushpanka · 24/11/2018 23:04

There was a wonderful study that showed that eating cake for breakfast makes you lose weight. It's healthy!

bofsy1 · 24/11/2018 23:04

Sorry I see that vid is unavailable but I am watching it now. Huh,

DerelictWreck · 24/11/2018 23:04

Honestly my favourite breakfast is a slab of lasagne that's been in the fridge since last night's dinner, left to rise to room temp

Everyone thinks I'm weird but I love this. Even make extra and forbid anyone from having seconds so I can have my breakfast slice Blush

Shedpod · 24/11/2018 23:06

I used to get the train to work very early every morning, and when it was dark and freezing in the winter I would buy a piece of hot homemade bread and butter pudding from the station cafe to eat on the train. It was dense and solid and squidgy and packed with fruit and spices. I can taste it now, it was absolute heaven.

@bofsy1 that looks delicious!

Tomorrow I'm having pancakes for breakfast, with cheese, bacon and mushroom sauce
Then I'm going back to bed, as I is poorly, and everything is ready to go Grin

Notso · 24/11/2018 23:23

I only eat breakfast at the weekend when we have bacon or sausages. The rest of the week I have leftovers or cook something like cauliflower cheese, veg soup, some sort of salad, cheese and crackers etc, I had stir fried veg on Friday.

I love shitty cereals like sugar puffs or cinnamon crunch but couldn't eat them first thing.

Genevieva · 24/11/2018 23:25

@justforareply those are my favourite too. Left over apple and blackberry crumble is the best.

Otherwise we have marmalade or marmite on toast or porridge cooked with water and a pinch of salt and served with cold milk and brown sugar.

dontalltalkatonce · 24/11/2018 23:30

Leftovers all the way. I never eat what a lot of people traditionally consider breakfast foods.

babysharkah · 24/11/2018 23:31

I don't really do breakfast if I do it is at the weekends when there's left overs from the night before. It's a particularly British thing to only eat certain foods, kedgeree an anomaly left over from the days of the raj.

SpoonBlender · 24/11/2018 23:37

As long as it's not last night's booze, go for it I say. Leftover breakfasts are classic. Bubble and squeak! Peculiarly orange chinese and prawn crackers! Cheese and grapes! Just don't reheat your pizza in the microwave, that's rank and doughy. Pop it in the oven for five minutes.

SpoonBlender · 24/11/2018 23:38

Oh, Genevieva! Crumble for breakfast. I'm tempted to do a late night crumble now...

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 24/11/2018 23:47

A cold, cooked flat mushroom that was baked with garlic butter, squidged onto a slice of toast and topped with shavings of Parmesan is the BEST breakfast. I will not be dissuaded from this.

6triesbuttingout · 25/11/2018 00:16

Left overs are the best, but after that it has to be thick toast with loads of butter and whatever topping you fancy. Me marmite oh marmalade and orange juice and lots of strong coffee 🐷🐷

Cherries101 · 25/11/2018 00:19

Dimsum / summer rolls or sushi for breakfast is a delight

gallicghoul · 25/11/2018 00:20

Apple crumble for breakfast is awesome.
