Chocolate spread argument (lighthearted)

AnythingConsidered · 24/11/2018 10:39

The house has erupted into chaos this morning, with lots of (lighthearted) insults at each other about who is right in the correct way to serve chocolate spread on toast.

Two main opinions:

  1. chocolate spread spread thickly straight onto hot toast

  2. hot toast is buttered and then the chocolate spread is spread over the butter

Arguments for and against include extra meltyness with butter, extra meltyness without butter, thicker spread without butter, chocolate doesn't spread on butter and cross contamination risk between butter and chocolate (only if you're stupid enough to use the same knife)

So it's agreed that MN has the ruling vote to end the war which has now raged for a few hours. Who is right?

Butter and chocolate spread.
But on white bread, never toast!
It needs to be soft and cakey-like.

Bigonesmallone3 · 24/11/2018 10:43

We use marg so always marg first!! U want it to be a bit soggy.. two separate knives and I will wipe the knife if it has a bit of marg on it and I need to go back into the chocolate

ipswichwitch · 24/11/2018 10:43

Absolutely no butter. And while I’m at it, no butter with jam. It’s an abomination. Hth

ipswichwitch · 24/11/2018 10:43

MARG!!!!!!

lostfrequencies · 24/11/2018 10:44

I LOVE butter, but would never put it on toast with another spread like peanut butter, jam or chocolate spread. Just no!

chipsandpeas · 24/11/2018 10:44

no butter or marg just chocolate spread on toast

AnythingConsidered · 24/11/2018 10:44

We are all in agreement on white bread only Baroness, but not on toast... Are you mad?!

FrederickCreeding · 24/11/2018 10:45

I love butter but I'm horrified at the idea of having it with chocolate spread. Sounds disgusting.

NoLeslie · 24/11/2018 10:45

Of course you need butter, the textures don't work without it. Basic life science fact.

KlutzyDraconequus · 24/11/2018 10:45

Toast, Marg, chocolate spread.
This is the only way.

To cause extra chaos... I also butter the toast before i put jam on.

bridgetreilly · 24/11/2018 10:45

Toast and nutella, unadulterated. This is the only right way.

agentdaisy · 24/11/2018 10:47

No butter with chocolate spread. The mix of lovely warm melty chocolate with butter is revolting.

Thick chocolate spread on hot toast or soft white bread is the best breakfast ever.

TheMagicTorch · 24/11/2018 10:47

No marg or butter!! Why take away from the delight of pure unadulterated chocolate spread. Skip the toast and get in there with a spoon

ILoveTreesInAutumn · 24/11/2018 10:48

Definitely butter first. It’s too dry otherwise. Bleurgh.

Butter before anything.

AnythingConsidered · 24/11/2018 10:49

MagicTorch I secretly do the spoon thing, but not telling the rest that as they'll all start!

OP posts:
ChippyMinton · 24/11/2018 10:49

Nutella on a tablespoon.
Hot buttered toast on the side.

megletthesecond · 24/11/2018 10:49

Butter then chocolate spread.

ChippyMinton · 24/11/2018 10:49

Great minds lol

TheMagicTorch · 24/11/2018 10:51

AnythingConsidered 😂 very good point
ChippyMinton Lol There's no other way!

howabout · 24/11/2018 10:52

Split jury here.

I think butter and chocolate spread as the butter provides a barrier to prevent crumbs in the chocolate layer. Doesn't work if toast too hot and therefore butter too melted.

DD2 would live on toast and chocolate spread and doesn't like butter on anything. Such is her rage at cross contamination we have considered buying her a separate jar, but she would just take to hoarding.

howabout · 24/11/2018 10:54

Horrified at the spoon thing. My irrational foible is saliva making its way into the jar - in our house lid must be on before spoon enters mouth.

WhoGivesADamnForAFlakeyBandit · 24/11/2018 10:55

What type of fucking heathen doesn't butter toast before putting jam on it Shock How can you spread jam without a bedding of butter? Where you born in a barn?

Obviously you don't use butter with chocolate spread because it's a spread and also has butter (stuff) in it so it's superfluous.

greendale17 · 24/11/2018 11:01

Chocolate spread straight on toast

MakeLemonade · 24/11/2018 11:01

No butter with Nutella! Gross.

Jam absolutely requires butter though.

littlepeas · 24/11/2018 11:03

Definitely no butter! It hadn’t even occurred to me that people would use butter with choc spread. Marge is vile - I can’t believe people still eat that crap.
