Chocolate spread argument (lighthearted)

AnythingConsidered · 24/11/2018 10:39

The house has erupted into chaos this morning, with lots of (lighthearted) insults at each other about who is right in the correct way to serve chocolate spread on toast.

Two main opinions:

  1. chocolate spread spread thickly straight onto hot toast

  2. hot toast is buttered and then the chocolate spread is spread over the butter

Arguments for and against include extra meltyness with butter, extra meltyness without butter, thicker spread without butter, chocolate doesn't spread on butter and cross contamination risk between butter and chocolate (only if you're stupid enough to use the same knife)

So it's agreed that MN has the ruling vote to end the war which has now raged for a few hours. Who is right?

Either which way, but if you use butter it needs to be real butter, and the bread should be crusty white French stick type bread.

ItWasntMeItWasIm · 24/11/2018 17:38

I've never tried it with butter. I think I need to as I find it too dry without.

I used to insist on no butter with toast and honey. Then I tried it with butter. Amazing! 😋

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 24/11/2018 17:45

Salty butter, so you get that lovely mix of sweet and salt. And well done toast - I like mine almost burnt - a hangover from my childhood where mum would make toast under the grill and always forgot to keep an eye on the first side so it ended up burnt, and then put it burnt side down on the plate, in the hopes we wouldn’t notice!

Jennywren2978 · 24/11/2018 17:47

@chippyminton I too eat nutell off a tablespoon. I like to eat it alongside a nice hot cup of tea.

Jennywren2978 · 24/11/2018 17:48

On bread, for me it has to be white bread lightly toasted with a generous spread of chocolate on its own, no butter.

Babyiwantabump · 24/11/2018 17:52

You are all doing it wrong

It’s marg

Then peanut butter

Then chocolate spread

Food of the gods

WhoGivesADamnForAFlakeyBandit · 24/11/2018 17:54

I've been in a rage all day about this. We all sit here wondering how the world has gone to pot with Brexit and Trump etc but this is where it all starts going wrong with normalising not buttering jam toast or jamwiches. You all look like human beings but underneath it all you are utter muppets Hmm Grin

OlobobTop · 24/11/2018 17:56

No one loves butter more than me, but EWWW!! No no NO!!Absolutely not with chocolate spread Shock also not with peanut butter, but yes with jam 😋

codenameduchess · 24/11/2018 17:57

Never butter!!!! Never!

My dad once made me a Nutella sandwich with butter on it.... he was never unsupervised in the kitchen again.

redsummershoes · 24/11/2018 18:00

never with butter and never on hot toast you just can't spread thickly enough

DoYouLikeHueyLewisandTheNews · 24/11/2018 18:00

Toast only for me, absolutely no butter but what's crucial is a equal spread, reaching all edges.

DwangelaForever · 24/11/2018 18:03

The only thing that's acceptable to be spread on bread with chocolate spread is smooth runny peanut butter (Tesco's own brand is divine)

Sausages18 · 24/11/2018 18:06

Hot white toast, butter, then 3 times as much chocolate spread is acceptable.

Randomusername01 · 24/11/2018 18:13

No butter with nutella. Ideally no bread neither, just warm it up in the micro and attack with a spoon 😂

userabcname · 24/11/2018 18:14

I say without butter, DH says with.

Didactylos · 24/11/2018 18:14

NorthernKnickers · 24/11/2018 18:17

Hot, buttered, thick, white toast, then chocolate spread (or jam/peanut butter).

NEVER (I can hardly even utter the word)...MARG (food heathens, all of you!) 😱😅

Gatehouse77 · 24/11/2018 18:19

Lightly toasted chollah, thin layer of butter, lashings of chocolate spread!

DwangelaForever · 24/11/2018 18:20

I hope you know this thread made me go and heap spoonfuls of Nutella into my face when my daughter was eating her dinner 😂 (Saturday night is takeaway night for us so she gets a seperate dinner)

tryinganewname · 24/11/2018 18:21

ABSOLUTELY NO BUTTER.

Potterpotty · 24/11/2018 18:23

No butter, my OH once made the mistake of putting butter and then nutella on DD's toast and she marched him straight back into the kitchen to do it again!

FlyingUnicorn1 · 24/11/2018 18:52

No butter with anything on toast

DwangelaForever · 27/11/2018 17:39

I've just tried butter and Nutella and I've changed my mind it is expletively amazing 🤤

tinselfest · 27/11/2018 17:42

I have never had chocolate spread in my life. What am I missing?

iklboo · 27/11/2018 17:44
