Chocolate spread argument (lighthearted)

AnythingConsidered · 24/11/2018 10:39

The house has erupted into chaos this morning, with lots of (lighthearted) insults at each other about who is right in the correct way to serve chocolate spread on toast.

Two main opinions:

  1. chocolate spread spread thickly straight onto hot toast

  2. hot toast is buttered and then the chocolate spread is spread over the butter

Arguments for and against include extra meltyness with butter, extra meltyness without butter, thicker spread without butter, chocolate doesn't spread on butter and cross contamination risk between butter and chocolate (only if you're stupid enough to use the same knife)

So it's agreed that MN has the ruling vote to end the war which has now raged for a few hours. Who is right?

littlepeas tbf there is just as much crap in chocolate spread as marg.

WinkysTeatowel · 24/11/2018 11:23

Eeewww no butter you weirdos. However, you are all wrong, the correct way to serve it is lathered on hot crumpets Grin

vampirethriller · 24/11/2018 11:26

Hot toast, butter, chocolate spread, eaten warm.

AnythingConsidered · 24/11/2018 11:29

WinkysTeatowel interestingly everyone in the house agrees to chocolate spread on crumpets had to have butter!

Definitely butter, but purely for the saltiness as a sweet-salty combo with the chocolate spread. Without it it's too sweet.

And definitely toast. No melt, no point.

angelikacpickles · 24/11/2018 11:33

Butter and chocolate spread together?!?! YABU.

TheChickenOfTruth · 24/11/2018 11:42

Noooooooo!

If you put butter on, the Nutella/peanut butter doesn't spread properly, it goes all clumpy. Makes me so sad.

TheWickedWitchofWestYorkshire · 24/11/2018 11:47

Butter? No. Sometimes I don't even have the toast and just eat the chocolate spread straight out of the jar.

As an aside I've just discovered gü chocolate spread. No palm oil and it's like heaven in a jar 😍

Basecamp65 · 24/11/2018 12:02

No butter but even more importantly no palm oil.

SillyPsychicAcid · 24/11/2018 12:04

Came on to say crumpets.

Also, not butter, dulce de Leche.

VitaminSea · 24/11/2018 12:09

Chocolate spread then butter.

Planesmistakenforstars · 24/11/2018 12:12

No butter or toast. The only accompaniment to Nutella is a spoon.

LiquoricePickle · 24/11/2018 12:12

No butter.

But definitely butter with jam.

GreenDinosaur · 24/11/2018 12:18

No butter with chocolate spread.
I don't understand why you'd have butter with something else? I only use it if it's just plain toast/crumpet and butter.

And what's with all the love for white bread? Unless it's fresh and crusty, most white bread is vile. Seeded wholemeal is so much tastier.

ThanksForAllTheFish · 24/11/2018 12:18

I just eat it straight out the tub with a spoon. Couldn’t be bothered with faffing around with toast.

At a push though I would say no butter, just chocolate spread.

AdaColeman · 24/11/2018 12:18

Hot toast, lashings of salted butter, chocolate spread, I like that salty/sweet combo.

Toast butter and jam is how I like it too.

Bluesheep8 · 24/11/2018 12:18

I have to confess, I've never had chocolate spread! But if I did, the toast would be buttered first. I have peanut butter with butter on first so that's my thinking. The butter helps it spread better I think.

humblesims · 24/11/2018 12:20

I cant think of anything that goes on toast that doesnt require butter under it.
Including peanut butter. [grin

22Giraffes · 24/11/2018 12:22

NO butter!! Makes the choc spread all clumpy, just no! Butter is however required with jam

TitzillatheHun · 24/11/2018 12:43

Absolutely butter first. DH thinks butter + spread is disgusting, but I like salted butter as it enhances the flavour of the Nutella.

I also put butter on before peanut butter, otherwise it's just too claggy in the mouth - the butter really helps with that issue.

2019bride2be · 24/11/2018 12:49

YABVU!! Its a sin to butter it and then add chocolate spread!
Although I butter toast then add jam, same for a sandwich, my oh hates me Grin he says no butter just jam for sandwich or toast Shock

ChippyMinton · 24/11/2018 12:53

Nutella + peanut butter = Snickers on toast

Delicious

MrsStrowman · 24/11/2018 12:59

I love butter with chocolate spread or jam it's the added saltiness that makes it good.

dinosaurglitterrepublic · 24/11/2018 17:18

My vote is butter and chocolate spread. Jam without butter is sacrilege.

HappyPunky · 24/11/2018 17:20

Chocolate spread Straight from the jar
Toast with butter then peanut butter
