To think that parents who don't vaccinate their children are despicable

Just that. And I think they ought to be sanctioned in some way similar to in Australia. Children shouldn't suffer because of parents' stupidity

I think I found out a friend was an anti-vaxxer I don't think I could be friends with them anymore. I couldn't deal with that level of ignorance. In my eyes it's on a par with racist or sexist views.

ThanksForAllTheFish · 24/11/2018 11:54

OftenHangry - I asked the Dr for the TB vaccine when my DD was a baby as we have a family history of TB (my siblings, cousins and I were all vaccinated as babies rather than at 12). The Dr refused my request and said she would have to wait until she was 12 (my cousin had her baby vaccinated a year later with no issues)

Iwanttobreakfreefreefree · 24/11/2018 11:55

My mum did not give me the Mmr as soon as was old enough to make the choice for myself I had it.
There is a picture of a huge room full of iron lungs if you google iron lung. If that is not enough to make antivaxxers think then I don’t know what it
I am guessing if small pox came back most of them would be banging the door of the doctors down. Or maybe smallpox just decided to disappear on its own!!! Hmm

JacquesHammer · 24/11/2018 11:56

All of you attacking pinkyyy and others for their choices, claiming intellectual superiority while resorting to name calling is what I find despicable

Yes indeed. It’s a proven fact that calling someone’s actions ignorant on a forum is just as dangerous as contracting measles because someone is too selfish to immunise their kids.

BakedBeans47 · 24/11/2018 11:56

You can all carry on with your vicious comments about being stupid and ignorant but quite early on I realised it would be a waste of time defending myself which is why I didn't even bother to give my reasons.

Unless there are medical reasons, there is no good reason not to vaccinate.

Pinkyyy · 24/11/2018 11:58

JaffaBiscuitNotCake I must agree, name calling always seems a poor resort to me.

BlaaBlaaBlaa so your friends must share your views or they can't be your friend at all?

Iwanttobreakfreefreefree · 24/11/2018 11:58

Cultural? Tell us? I am not trying to be a cow I am just wondering

Pimpernell · 24/11/2018 11:59

Well said.

The things some people find despicable are truly tiresome.

Being mean on MN - despicable.
Risking other people's health - well that's okay really.

Iwanttobreakfreefreefree · 24/11/2018 12:00

Don’t be daft pinky. I have lots of friends that have different views but yes some views would be a deal breaker for me as I am sure some would for you. I am not saying antivax would be a deal breaker for me but they would be to some people. I couldn’t have a friend with far right views for example

Pimpernell · 24/11/2018 12:01

BlaaBlaaBlaa so your friends must share your views or they can't be your friend at all?

I'd imagine she's asking if your friends know what the risks from a health perspective are of mixing with your kids.

Pinkyyy · 24/11/2018 12:02

Iwanttobreakfreefreefree I'm from the travelling community. Not even all travellers share the same views so that doesn't necessarily mean that's the reason, but family values and traditions are very important to us. I come from a family where vaccinations are not done and I have made the choice to follow that. Of course I didn't have to, but I chose to.

Iwanttobreakfreefreefree · 24/11/2018 12:03

Thankyou for your reply pinnky

BlaaBlaaBlaa · 24/11/2018 12:05

pinkyyy it's not about views. It's about ignorance. I wouldn't be friends with someone who holds sexist views or who was racist. It's pure ignorance which has a negative impact on society.
TBF though I also struggle with flat earthers but at least they aren't posing a risk to others

Pimpernell · 24/11/2018 12:14

Flat earthers pose a risk not by their flat earthiness but because being a flat earther means they're generally speaking regressive as shit on most issues.

BlaaBlaaBlaa · 24/11/2018 12:17

True. How people can be so ignorant of science is beyond me

OftenHangry · 24/11/2018 12:19

@ThanksForAllTheFish I would change a GP. 😳

Baking101 · 24/11/2018 12:22

Yanbu op and are right. If the anti vaxxers don't like it, oh well, they are wrong anyway.

formerbabe · 24/11/2018 12:27

pinkyyy

Are you against all medical care?

bellinisurge · 24/11/2018 12:32

Why are you making choices for me?
That's what failing to vaccinate your kids means for an immunocompromised person like me.
Disgusting.

Oh well I can understand your stance Pinkyy, I used to take my health for granted too, but nowadays I appreciate the NHS and all it offers.

Totally agree @JenFromTheGlen . Enough being nice to people and indulging their dangerous shit.

BakedBeans47 · 24/11/2018 12:47

Are your parents quite uneducated pinky?

corythatwas · 24/11/2018 12:51

Pinkyyy, while I don't agree with the name-calling, there is one question I really wish you'd answer. Supposing there is another child who plays with your child or goes to school with them who can't be vaccinated because they are immunocompromised or allergic.

Supposing your child does get a mild dose of measles, the other child catches it off them and dies- would you feel ok about that because there are so many ways to die? Would you feel you had the right to take that risk for other people's children?

Isn't that a bit similar to speeding across a pedestrian crossing because there are so many ways to die that it doesn't really matter if you run somebody down as long as you don't mind the risk to yourself and your passengers?
