To ask if you can be attractive and fat?

Blush

I am pretty overweight at the moment. I just cannot seem to stick to a diet for any length of time, have a Fitbit which has helped a bit in terms of daily activity but I know it’s mostly about food. I’m very lonely so eat.

I feel so ugly. I have nice hair, eyes, teeth, but it feels I am just drowned in fat Sad

Can you be attractive and overweight?

Yes if you are confident and dress in a way that suits you. Doesn't have to be expensive or in any particular style but just flatering to you.

bridgetreilly · 23/11/2018 20:09

Sure. Just as much as it's possible to be thin and unattractive. The two things are really not that closely related.

SundayGirls · 23/11/2018 20:11

Of course! Like lots of PP have said though, it tends to go hand in hand with being well-maintained all over (hair, skin etc) and looking healthy.

Whereas I do think that being slim gets a head start in a way. I don't know why though. Maybe it's because it's the instant thing that people notice (usually).

I have been a size 16 and an 8. I have actually met a few people when I was bigger and then again several years later when I was a size 8 and they actually treated me differently. (i.e. at events. As a size 8 I was suddenly "in the gang" and looked at differently. That annoyed me.)

Conversely I noticed that some people have been nicer to me when I was a size 16 and then not so nice when I was an 8. In fact one person in particular who does that is like a barometer for how slim/fat I am, she's that obvious with it. She just doesn't like it when I'm slim but is far nicer to me when I've put on a bit (I have yo-yo'd quite a lot).

It's puzzling.

missmouse101 · 23/11/2018 20:16

You definitely can be both OP! Absolutely no doubt about it!

I honestly don't think weight has that much to do with it, unless you're talking about extremes at either end of the spectrum. Me, I'm unattractive and always will be, whether I'm fat or thin. I have a genuinely ugly face and no amount of makeup or dressing nicely will get me around that. I happen to be fat at the moment but I looked no better when I was slim - if anything, I'm a bit better off fat, because it plumps out any nascent wrinkles!

If you have a nice face, pretty eyes, good hair, you'll always be attractive to most people. As pp have said, it's a matter of realising that and having the confidence in yourself to believe it.

OHolyNightOwl · 23/11/2018 20:50

Of course you can, a pretty face is a pretty face, no matter what the body looks like.
It is mainly about confidence though.

I used to be a size 10 until I was about 30 years old and got depressed and started overeating. 10 years later I'm now a size 16. I am not loving being this weight, but am really comfortable with who I am as a person.
So while I don't turn heads like I did when younger and slimmer, I am told that I am sexy, fun and smart far more than I have ever been before.

mummymayhem18 · 23/11/2018 20:56

For Gods sake PeachCokezero . I think she's aware she's overweight, obese whatever you want to say but no need to be rude about it. I know I'm obese it doesn't mean we are stupid and are under some illusion that we are really a size 10. Obviously we would rather we were thinner and healthier but it's not always as easy as that. I'm not bothered about how men see me ,I would like to be thinner for me. You have to do it for yourself and not be fat shamed by ignorant people. It's no one else's business. Tact!

Yes, you can be larger than average and bloody gorgeous! Get a new cut / colour and splash out on some new make up. Eyebrows make such a difference. Buy a couple of outfits that make you feel confident.
Tess is a size 22. She’s gorgeous!

Novasglow · 23/11/2018 21:11

A couple of my friends have been feeling the same. They're overweight, yes. Regardless, they are beautiful. I'd go as far to say that I personally, consider them to be stunning.

Rudgie47 · 23/11/2018 21:28

I'd rather drop dead young from a heart attack than live a long life anyway. Who wants to be in their 80s and 90s struggling with ill health etc.
My died of a heart attack when he was 57, he was a type 2 diabetic and in his time was an alcoholic and heavy smoker. My Mum has never drunk or smoked or being overweight and is housebound waiting for a hip replacement. She been waiting for a year and a half!!.

Sorry but I do agree with @PeachCokeZero. I'm 5 feet small and work my butt off to stay under 9 stone. Its my healthy weight. It means following slimming world or low carb most of the time unfortunately, with time off for hols etc..being short is bloody hard work.

I don't think beyond her face, which is lovely, that Tess Holliday is attractive. I think there is a tipping point beyond which excess weight and the way it is carried stops being attractive. Most of the women mentioned up thread are hour glass so they have hips and boobs not big rolls of stomach fat. Same for men huge stomachs and moobs don't do it for me. However we are all attracted to different things, so I think it's important that what ever weight you are you're comfortable with it and confidence is key to this.

SundayGirls · 23/11/2018 22:17

Peach Bit of a derail seeing as we're on the topic of weight and all that... I'm 5'7" and 9st 12lb, currently "on a diet" (sigh). How do you do it?! Any tips? Do you have to work out every day? I hate watching everything I eat but then I love seeing clothes look better etc.

SundayGirls · 23/11/2018 22:17

^^ (Bit of a derail BUT seeing as we're on the topic!)

Time40 · 23/11/2018 22:29

Can you be attractive and overweight?

No. But no one dares to say that, and I am sure I will get flamed. But it's true: you can't.
