I HAVE A BABY YOU KNOW!

Now, possibly we’ve all been there...

But AIBU to think that this woman yelling this at me on a station platform was just ridiculous and was IBU to laugh and say ‘that’s nice’.

Picture the scene, last week, crowded tube platform, rush hour, everyone trying to get home. Huge delays, a tube hasn’t been for about twelve minutes. Everyone is getting increasingly pissed off.

Woman with a small child in a buggy is getting pretty irate, sighing dramatically, muttering obscenities etc. She then pushes that ‘information’ button on the platform and when it gets picked up demands to know when the next train is coming (the board is already displaying 10 minutes)

Operator tells her ten minutes. She tells him that is disgusting, she’s got a child, they ought to be sending taxis Hmm operator clicks off.

She loses her shit, and screeches I ‘JUST WANT TO GET HOME!!’

I said, ‘yes, I’m pretty sure we all want that’ because she’s irritating me and the platform is chockablock so I cant move away.

She then yells ‘ I HAVE A BABY!!’

I sort of laughed incredulously and said ‘yes, that’s nice’

, I NEED TO GET HOME NOW! THIS IS NOT FAIR ON MY CHILD, I SHOULDNT HAVE TO PUT UP WITH THIS!!’

Child (looked about a year or so so not a baby baby) sat impassively in buggy for the duration.

She didn’t get her taxi, but (rightly so) everyone moved aside when the train finally came so she did get on with the buggy. Lots of people didn’t and had to just wait for the next one.

She kept up with the dramatic sighing the entire way back though.

Would drive me mad, can understand being fuming if she was pushed out the way with her buggy but whilst everyone is just waiting and she's screaming - embarrassing.

PhilomenaButterfly · 20/11/2018 14:33

I should have tried that leaving Battersea Park fireworks. DD then 4 and I were getting crushed, DS then 2 months was probably the safest one there in his buggy.

Clutterbugsmum · 20/11/2018 14:38

I would have said bully for you I HAVE 3 and I want to get home too. It’s not a competition as to who gets on the train first.

I’m not sure I would have moved and let her on the train first either.

HarrietKettleWasHere · 20/11/2018 14:39

Well, she’d already rammed her way to the front with the buggy so I don’t think anyone had much choice!

I know, I was cringing at her for thinking she was the only one on the platform who had birthed a child recently.

I have definitely been this woman, but only in my head! Outwardly, I bave always kept my shit. But inside, I have at times been screaming variations of this. I'm just glad telepathy isn't a thing Blush

Poor form to let it all out possibly healthier than bottling it all up until you pop like I do, mind you

BluthsFrozenBananas · 20/11/2018 14:47

A while ago I was walking to the park with DD and my dog. We found our way blocked by someone who had parked on the pavement and opened their car door across the width of the pavement creating a kind of private walkway between the car and house with its front door open. The only way to get round it would have been for the three of us to have walked out into a busy road.

A woman was standing by the car on the house side, I asked her if she could shut the car door so we could pass by. She replied “There’s a baby about to come out!” gesturing at the house. I pointed out that there wasn’t actually a baby coming out right now, so she should shut the door and let us pass, which she eventually did with much tutting and huffing.

She honestly expected us to stand and wait until the baby made an appearance and was fastened into the car.

Gromance02 · 20/11/2018 15:03

Fuck that. Why is her time any more important than anyone else's? The irony is that she probably wasn't on her way anywhere important as probably not even working.

HarrietKettleWasHere · 20/11/2018 15:04

Bluths that’s amazing! I’m imaging a royal baby being borne out of the house on a Dias while everyone looks solemnly on 😂

lilyblue5 · 20/11/2018 15:10

@Bluths, the royal baby! Haha.
Maybe train mum was having one of those days where your brain is frazzled and you hate everything Wink

DaysOfCurlySpencer · 20/11/2018 15:13

My reply would have been 'So what?' but then I have very little patience with selfish, and stupid, or buggies shoving people out of the way.

LisaSimpsonsbff · 20/11/2018 15:14

I kind of think this is a lot with DS (my four month old PFB), but I know that saying it would make me an unreasonable lunatic. He always cries when we stop at traffic lights and when the person in front of me dithers and we miss the lights I have been known to shout 'you have to hurry up because I HAVE A BABY' but only because I know they can't hear me - I wouldn't actually say if it they could!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 20/11/2018 15:16

she probably wasn't on her way anywhere important as probably not even working oh i forgot mothers dont have "important" things to do.

onthenaughtystepagain · 20/11/2018 15:17

I once parked in the first normal parking space after a row of p and c places. As I got out a car stopped and a shrill voice said 'I need to park there!'. When I looked at the p and c board to confirm I was right and shook my head she got hysterical and demanded that I let her have that space as I HAVE A CHILD! and the other spaces were taken. My response that I have a fluffy cat didn't seem to placate her and even in the store she started at me, becoming more and more irate as I smilingly ignored her. Happy day!

NotUmbongoUnchained · 20/11/2018 15:17

Try not to be too mad at her, she may have had a horrendous day.

I had a huge melt down at a tube station once with my baby because I had been delayed all day with various transport and I hadnt had the chance to take my medication. I’m actually shocked I didn’t have social services turn up and take my child if I’m honest!

Gromance02 · 20/11/2018 15:19

oh i forgot mothers dont have "important" things to do Like what? Hospital appointments? Anyone could have those.

Shazafied · 20/11/2018 15:19

@Gromance
“ The irony is that she probably wasn't on her way anywhere important as probably not even working.”

Charming. Maybe she does work and maybe she was taking the baby somewhere important like an appointment. What a silly comment.

UnknownStuntman · 20/11/2018 15:20

I hate the "but, i have kids" thing. It's nothing special, billions of people have managed it.

LisaSimpsonsbff · 20/11/2018 15:22

Maybe she does work and maybe she was taking the baby somewhere important like an appointment.

But she said she was going home?

LuvSmallDogs · 20/11/2018 15:22

I used to be this woman with DS1, but only in my head. I think it was a mixture of PFB, PND and the looks I used to get as he was a very screamy baby.

Rachel0Greep · 20/11/2018 15:22

She replied “There’s a baby about to come out!” gesturing at the house. I pointed out that there wasn’t actually a baby coming out right now, so she should shut the door and let us pass, which she eventually did with much tutting and huffing.

This made me genuinely LOL!

melonscoffer · 20/11/2018 15:23

Gromance
She probably wasn't on her way anywhere important as probably not even working

Whoa! I'm surprised you've got away with no outcry after saying that.

MattBerrysHair · 20/11/2018 15:25

Sounds like she was having a panic attack, or at least trying to stave one off.

LisaSimpsonsbff · 20/11/2018 15:27

She replied “There’s a baby about to come out!” gesturing at the house.

Maybe she meant there was a woman in labour who urgently needed rushing to the hospital?! That would (just about) warrant the urgency with which she was treating it!

Gromance02 · 20/11/2018 15:27

melonscoffer I can't remember the last time I had anywhere that important to get to that I would behave like the mother in the OP's post. I don't think the world revolves around me though.

GimbleInTheWabe · 20/11/2018 15:30

Clapham junction at peak time is ducking awful. With a buggy its even worse. But hey, my choice to birth said baby and my choice to travel at peak time via train. Though I have totally screamed everything she said inside my head and wished everyone would part the seas so I can get on with my buggy.

Poor lass, probs was having one of those days.
