Middle aged man with no hobbies. Not into 'foodie' type gifts, already owns too many clothes. I'm at a complete loss this year. What are you all buying your OH's?

OP posts:
Tumilnaughts · 20/11/2018 11:24

He's getting nothing. I've given up trying. We're going on holiday a few weeks after though so I've told him that's his present.

Tumilnaughts · 20/11/2018 11:24

But I'll be honest- I'm feeling very Scrooge like this year.

SolemnlySwear2010 · 20/11/2018 11:26

We half in and book a luxury night away somewhere for just the two of us and then just get each other small token gifts.

This year i have ordered him some new bike accessories, his favourite coffee (that he refuses to usually pay the money for etc). He usually gets me some Ted Baker goodies from Boots as I adore the cosmetics and bath stuff.

Chocolatecake12 · 20/11/2018 11:27

I’ve got mine tickets to a show. After that I’m struggling though. Like your dp mine has too many clothes and has specifically asked for no foodie or drink gifts.
Makes it quite difficult. And when I ask him what he wants he says surprise me! Grrrrr

Galwaygirl · 20/11/2018 11:28

Flight to Portugal for 3 nights, I benefit too!

thedevilinablackdress · 20/11/2018 11:29

Whatever he asks for. And vice versa. None of this guessing business in our house.

Sequencedress · 20/11/2018 11:29

Almost scared to admit it after reading another thread about Alexa, but most probably getting Mr Sequins a Google home, as that's what he wants. I object to it on the grounds it will gather information on my plans for world domination Would your DH fancy a gadget? Perhaps a smart watch? Mr Sequins knows he has to say what he wants, or it's nowt. He tested me on this. Just the once mind Wink

SleepNGrow · 20/11/2018 11:29

This year a remote control car. It can go up and over rocks, it's very cool. He's wanted one for a while. He's a geek and spends his working week in front of a screen so loves to be outside at the weekend. He and the DC will have great fun with it in the park.

maxelly · 20/11/2018 11:30

How about an experience type gift, I usually find those the best for people who don't need or want more 'stuff'? So concert or theatre or cinema tickets, a lunch or dinner out somewhere nice, one of those red letter day type things driving a sports car or a tank or a glider? A day out to a local attraction or museum or theme park? Or would he go for something a bit more unusual like an escape room?

Or a subscription to a magazine or box delivery or TV service related to something he likes? Or an Aubidle membership or similar?

HRTpatch · 20/11/2018 11:31

He is getting "an experience "

maxelly · 20/11/2018 11:32

But to answer your question I'm getting mine a power tool (that he has asked for), tickets to a concert, a cigar and probably some small token things like socks and a book...

MrsLJ2014 · 20/11/2018 11:36

We don't buy for each other but put what we would have spent towards a holiday / mini break, etc.

BarbaraofSevillle · 20/11/2018 11:37

A pile of Christmas treats from Aldi and Lidl (no good for yours obviously), a case for his new kindle if he hasn't bought one himself by then and I am also going to sponsor a Scottish wildcat for him, so he'll get to spend Christmas morning watching internet videos of 'his' Scottish wildcat.

Other things that have gone down well have been a case of beer of a type he likes that is only available online in the UK and the spoof Haynes manuals (Spitfire, Millenium Falcon, etc).

We don't really do proper gifts between us as we both have very specific tastes and tend to just buy our own things as and when, after doing our own research as to exactly which one of a thing we want and what's the best price.

He buys me gin and stuff from Hotel Chocolat.

JaceLancs · 20/11/2018 11:40

Tools (chosen by him)
Aftershave
Niche calendar
Art equipment
Chocolate

Mamadothehump · 20/11/2018 11:41

Nowt! This is our 10th year of not getting each other anything and we are both happy with this arrangement!

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 20/11/2018 11:41

A new sat nav, designer trainers and Jack Daniels fudge.

Stompythedinosaur · 20/11/2018 11:44

Between christmas and dp's December birthday he is getting tickets to a comedy show, a handmade leather cuff, some items for a hobby and an alexa thing with some smart bulbs and smart plugs.

Travis1 · 20/11/2018 11:44

Tickets for Romesh, tickets to see a local comedian. Wireless earphones for the gym, probably a couple of those lightweight gym t shirts, a calendar made up of daft photos of him/us and the cats and some stocking fillers.

Nicknamesalltaken · 20/11/2018 11:46

Another one who has bought tickets. 6 shows, one a month.

NonaGrey · 20/11/2018 11:47

We don’t buy Christmas gifts for each other.

We decided years ago it just added unnecessary stress and we spent money on stuff we didn’t need or really want.

Since having kids we usually buy each other very nice Mothers and Father’s Day gifts.

MereDintofPandiculation · 20/11/2018 11:47

We agreed long ago that we would both limit ourselves to £10. So we both get an unexpected gift, and if either of us has got it completely wrong, it doesn't matter.

DaniEvans · 20/11/2018 11:47

I’ve bought mine a bong, grinder and cannabis (medicinal reasons) but of course he won’t be allowed to open it in from of the kids!

LakieLady · 20/11/2018 11:47

Clothes mostly, because he's too tight to buy them for himself and would be walking round in rags if I didn't. Plus he hates shopping.

Sometimes, motorbike-related stuff that he wants. eg bike cover, heated grips, new crash helmet. I still owe him a new pair of bike boots from about 3 years ago. Every few months, I ask if he wants to go to a shop and try some on, he never does.

This year, I've offered to pay for his teeth to be sorted out, he needs a couple of crowns.

He won't go near a shopping centre if he can avoid it. He's agreed to come to Ikea to try out a sofa, I give it about 20 seconds between getting in the door and him losing the will to live.

Sitranced · 20/11/2018 11:47

Nothing. We buy each other gifts throughout the year and celebrate the winter season with a feast dinner instead.

MsSquiz · 20/11/2018 11:50

I've got my DH:

Aftershave
His favourite bottle of gin
Chinos
Shirt
Cufflinks
Fancy toiletries
Comedy show tickets
Bottle of champagne in a personalised tin
A set of 3 Nando's sauces
An overnight stay including dinner at a fancy hotel/restaurant
