Middle aged man with no hobbies. Not into 'foodie' type gifts, already owns too many clothes. I'm at a complete loss this year. What are you all buying your OH's?

OP posts:
DioneTheDiabolist · 20/11/2018 11:50

New messanger bag, a whiskey glass, travel guide for our holiday destination and Cards Against Humanity game.

Justonemoremojito · 20/11/2018 11:50

Nothing much but we're heading to Brussels for Xmas markets so that's our present

HelloDoris · 20/11/2018 11:52

Probably a subscription to 2000AD or tickets to something, he wants a sweeping machine but I think he'll get that in family secret santa, plus I like to buy him a real treat gift that he would never consider getting.

00100001 · 20/11/2018 11:53

Fallout 76
A pack of chocolate hobnobs

Rachelover40 · 20/11/2018 11:55

Take him out for a meal.

I tend to buy clothes, he stocks up from me on birthday and Christmas but does end up with loads of clothes. A meal or theatre tickets is good.

SymphonyofShadows · 20/11/2018 11:56

I've got him the Trojan Records 50 years boxed set and accompanying covers book but the DC will give him one each. He doesn't know about those but he is currently deciding between new Made in England Cherry Doc boots or mid checked suit with a velvet collar. He's massively into Ska. He's getting me a new record deck which is a huge upgrade to my current knackered one so I'm in the mood to be generous.

Tiddler7 · 20/11/2018 11:57

Tickets for football match for DH and teenage son.

mindutopia · 20/11/2018 11:59

Usually a bottle of nice spirits of some sort and then whatever she says he’d like when I ask. We’re well past the whole guessing what the other wants now. I usually get a spa day. It’s fantastic and no stress.

mindutopia · 20/11/2018 12:01

*HE says he likes! There’s no weird third party to our gift buying like that sounds!

justilou1 · 20/11/2018 12:03

Mine has a birthday a month before Christmas as well. Two bloody difficult presents at the same time. I'm being a bitch and combining them this year. (He's getting an Apple watch, though.... He'd better be impressed.)

juneau · 20/11/2018 12:06

I feel your pain OP, as he sounds very like my DH. I don't get him much, tbh, as he never really wants anything. There are a few foodie bits he likes (those German ginger cake things - Lebkuchen - that you can get at Christmas time), beer, he likes tools for the garden, or car cleaning products - that kind of thing. I wish he was as easy to buy for as I am. I'm sooooo easy! He (and every other man in my family), is a fucking nightmare. Why are men so bloody boring????

GreenBasket · 20/11/2018 12:11

@SleepNGrow what RC car is that if you don't mind me asking?

maddening · 20/11/2018 12:12

Big arena show for dh, me and ds, train tickets and hotel for the night we are there.

Celebelly · 20/11/2018 12:14

I'm buying mine a new smartphone as his is off the ark and some t-shirts/clothes. He hates clothes shopping for himself and only gets his wardrobe replenished at Christmas time when I get him bits and pieces, so he'd be bereft if I didn't get the usual haul of t-shirts and socks! Grin

Hunlife · 20/11/2018 12:16

DH wants Airpods but the price! Shock

Cuzcothellama · 20/11/2018 12:16

I tend to go with experiences, so previous presents have been along the lines of:

wine tasting
skydive
sports tickets
helicopter flight
weekend away
cheese making

etc.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 20/11/2018 12:17

Mine has loads of hobbies, loves food, books and music so he's pretty easy really. He needs to replace his kindle though, so I guess that will be it from me. Kids and rellies will buy him other stuff. Not buying loads for the sake of buying.

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 20/11/2018 12:20

My husband is dead so no present to buy but I give a donation in his name of what I would have spent on his Christmas present to the hospice that cared for him.

jaseyraex · 20/11/2018 12:20

I get DH a few things he needs and something he wants and something from the kids. So this year I've got him a new watch, trainers, wallet and an xbox controller as his is on the blink. Got him a game he wants for the Xbox. Our eldest picked a keyring and small teddy for him. DH is just giving me money for a new tattoo.
Does your DH like techy things? Is he in to tattoos/piercings? Could you get him an experience day or book a night away somewhere with him?

Fruitbatdancer · 20/11/2018 12:25

A puppy Grin

hooveringhamabeads · 20/11/2018 12:27

Tickets to a concert and hotel for afterwards, and some jelly babies.

whiteonesugar · 20/11/2018 12:27

I am getting him a bag for work, a scarf and a dressing gown. So practical and boring :(

blackcat86 · 20/11/2018 12:27

We're not doing main presents this year instead we're pooling the money we would have spent to get a nice spa day together. DH also wants some more boxers and socks

BiddyPop · 20/11/2018 12:28

Last year, I got him Alexa, and he does appreciate that (except when she misbehaves every Sunday night and won't operate a sleeptimer on the radio/podcast we listen to - she'll do it every other night no problem - just weird).

This year, he has asked for an Apple Watch - he had muttered about it after Christmas last year (well, a Garmin version at 3 times the price then), but not beforehand. So I must order that this week.

I'll throw in a few Christmas beers as well.

His birthday this year was a nice outfit, that he actually seemed to like. But that took a fair amount of looking to get that right.

Another middle aged, over stretched at work, no time for hobbies, buys all he needs himself, type man.

Blazedout · 20/11/2018 12:32

My DH is so hard to buy for. It was his birthday on Sunday so I organised for him to meet up with friends he hasn't seen for a long time, then sent him and another friend to the golf course for a round of golf and a bacon sandwich. All of this was arranged in secret. To open he had some Smellies and sweets. He was thrilled to bits with it all.
