Middle aged man with no hobbies. Not into 'foodie' type gifts, already owns too many clothes. I'm at a complete loss this year. What are you all buying your OH's?

DH is getting a book and a bottle of dark rum! We don't spend a lot on each other

SolemnlySwear2010 · 20/11/2018 13:09

@QuimReaper i have bought a phone holder so he can measure distance/ time, new bike seat cover and new base layer clothes since its getting colder

PlatypusPie · 20/11/2018 13:10

This is just the question I have set myself to answer this afternoon 😧He had a significant birthday a few months ago and I feel that my creative ideas and generosity of budget got used up then !

He hates having clothes bought for him, has just revived an interest in a sport but I’m not sure if it is going to stick so won’t buy equipment for that yet and has everything he could need for existing sport, chocolates and fancy gins are what the DDs will give....... I have earmarked a couple of books that he might like which seems a bit feeble on its own.

My DP has got:

A new coat
A game for his machine thing
A manicure set in a leather pouch (he has a thing about his nails and having them cut constantly)
Usual smellies and underwear (it's a tradition for his new underwear apparently he tells me lol)
His favourite sweets and treats etc
Small bottle of Jack Daniels

I've been so bad because we said only one gift each... him with his game and me some new beautiful pjs but I kept finding things and picking them up. Then when we had a night away a few weeks ago he bought me a beautiful necklace to go with my pjs and he's had a few parcels delivered which I've had strict instructions not to open lol.

GreenBasket

This one www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07DFY93RX/?tag=mumsnetforum-21
It's gone down a bit since I got it. The reviews were quite good I think.

tenbob · 20/11/2018 13:14

A day of coaching for his hobby, a jumper and probably something else like a belt if he expresses a need for one near the time

We don't really spend much on each other and prefer to have a treat like a holiday or something nice for the house as our present to each other from each other

SleepNGrow · 20/11/2018 13:22

@GreenBasket ^^

Sorry, just realised you have to do the @ symbol

MinesaPinot · 20/11/2018 13:23

Mr Pinot had a significant birthday in November so he got tickets for Cirque du Soleil and a hotel stay in London for the Friday/Saturday night along with a nice restaurant booked for the Saturday.

He says on that basis he doesn't really want anything for Christmas, but I have bought him a SatNav (a Black Friday bargain from Argos), and I'll get him a book or DVD and some chocolates to go with it.

strumpetblowingatrumpet · 20/11/2018 13:23

I got my dh a small and quite cheap drone with a camera on it.

Lazybonita · 20/11/2018 13:34

I’m getting DH a metal detector, some nice espresso cups and saucers which match our new crockery and a new knife block.

fukkigucci · 20/11/2018 13:36

Best present I ever bought for DH. A headlamp. So he can barbecue outside in the dark in the winter. He uses it all the time. Cos of the early evening if there is anything that needs to be done outside it’s really useful. (Like putting radiator fluid in the car and stuff)

Witchofwisteria · 20/11/2018 13:37

This morning I bought him a beer dispenser that hes been harping on and on about. I told him NO last night and he sulked so badly I thought he would be really pleased to get this for Christmas. We are hosting boxing day for family and I know his brother will be equally impressed by it. There is a black friday deal on at the moment so you can buy the dispenser and 4 litres of beer from about £84 on amazon or £64 if you go for the smaller version.

I went for the grey/blue colour as I decided that actually it would match my kitchen rather nicely.

Thank you for the 💐
Hospices are vastly under funded getting very little government support and mostly rely on charitable donations and unfortunately most people don’t think about them until they find themselves in a position where they need them so most who regularly give a charity donation just don’t think of them. I would urge anyone who wants to give a little back this Christmas to pop even just a fiver in a Christmas card and send it to their local hospice. Every penny is put to good use and you never know when you or your loved ones might need them.

gimmeadoughnut123 · 20/11/2018 13:46

We go halves on a weekend break.

Eatmycheese · 20/11/2018 13:52

Gig tickets for some punk band he can relieve his youth to. 🙄
And whisky.

He's a sensible sort.

M3lon · 20/11/2018 13:54

probably nothing....we get what we need when we need it....we don't need stuff for the sake of stuff...at all....and we have a child who really won't thank us for the state of the world she will inherit.

puzzledlady · 20/11/2018 13:56

Whipping Siphon and maybe a dehydrator, if I can stretch - new coffee machine or a copper frying pan.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 20/11/2018 13:59

No idea. Mine just brought me a gin calendar... we can't think of anything else to splurge on, so we'' share it!

We usually go to Waterstones and buy a couple of unlikely books.

I already volunteer for a local foodbank and community programme, it's not my year this year!

I wonder if BIL and SIL will land on us again?!

AmericanEskimoDoge · 20/11/2018 14:13

We don't really buy Christmas gifts for one another anymore, aside from perhaps a token gift or two (a calendar, candy). It's too hard to know what to get. We'll generally buy what we want when we want it, within reason, and our hobbies are fairly specialized, anyway. We'd have to tell one another exactly what we wanted, so we might as well just order it ourselves!

Instead, we might decide on something we'd both enjoy, together something for the house/kitchen, a new board game, a special meal or each treat ourselves to something of our own choosing. It takes some of the pressure off the Christmas shopping.

Limensoda · 20/11/2018 14:19

Every year DP tells me he doesn't want anything so this year he is getting his wish.

MaryShelley1818 · 20/11/2018 14:25

I’ve bought DP (will be DH at Christmas!) a red Casio GShock Watch, Lego Technic Racer, some retro metal car signs for his garage, a retro garage clock, a Gryffindor Tshirt and a Father and Son Willow Tree from DS x

Leatherboundanddown · 20/11/2018 14:30

I have got us 2 tickets to a comedy thing we wanted to go to.

Then to open I have got him 2 books that he will love. I also do him a stocking. So far in it is : lush soap, extra strong mints, chocolate sprouts and a tin of sardines (I can't stand them so he rarely has them) Smile

BaronessBomburst · 20/11/2018 14:39

A wise MNer said last year to look at whatever his favourite gadget is and then buy him an upgrade/ the newer version.
Turns out that mine does indeed want a better running watch and a new phone.
Both over budget though. :(

TheWiseWomansFear · 20/11/2018 14:41

A cloud shaped weather predictor from Firebox, some good wine, an aftershave and a funny notebook.

Done for me
