Today I almost met somebody who has been a big figure in my life. It took ages to pluck up the courage to speak to them and I was totally dismissed. I wasn’t being a “gushing fan” and it was a setting that was laid back. Everyone else was lovely. Have tou ever met someone you admire and wish you hadn’t?

I think if you are a celebrity you do have to be courteous to the public but everyone has their off days. I agree having a private meal with family is different to being asked for photos etc than when you are at your "work".

OHolyNightOwl · 19/11/2018 17:09

A long, long time ago I flirted with and snogged Robbie Williams at a party..he then did a LOT of coke openly, was a complete mess and did not recognise me when I said goodbye! Haha

Alwaysbekind2014 · 19/11/2018 17:11

My daughter recently filmed with Simon Pegg - he was lovely and laid back polite
She then went to the European premier of Christoper robin and met Ewan mcgreogor he was a little less friendly 😂slightly moody !

MissMarplesKnitting · 19/11/2018 17:22

Russell Howard is lovely. Quite shy and tries to avoid limelight when out and about.

Have relatives in showbiz and they have done big names in their phone. Most are lovely.

Arseholes.... include Dame Maggie Smith. Johnny Vaughan is a total bellend, or he was when I met him about 20 years ago.

Alex James was in the queue behind me, with his kids, at an attraction. He was lovely.

Mark Williams frequents the pub in the village he lives in and is apparently lovely.

I met the entire Chelsea FC team whilst they were pissed. 2005. Frank Lampard was lovely.

I had the same local in Chiswick as Ant and Dec in my 20s and they were always such a laugh.

Jerry Hall is by far the most glamourous person I have ever met. We were at the same dinner party once (she dated a guy half her age) and I opened the door for her. She walked in, turned her back at me and shrugged off her coat. It fell to the floor and we both just looked at it until I said, -Should I have cought that? and picked it up. She laughed and walked off. She later charmed the whole dinner table.

I told Martin Clunes his dog was chubby once and he got very cross. To be fair I was probably the rude one and she was just big boned.

Ian Hislop is a complete arse and treated a friend of mine who worked for him horribly.

Karmin · 19/11/2018 18:08

@Snugglepumpkin would you mind giving a strong hint to the book?

Snugglepumpkin · 19/11/2018 18:15

@Karmin
sent it to you in a pm, don't want to bitch about someone in a public forum.

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 19/11/2018 18:18

Snuggle could I have a pm of the book too, please? I'll keep it hush Wink

Rudgie47 · 19/11/2018 18:24

MissMarplesKnitting I knew someone who worked on the set of A very private function with Dame Maggie Smith and he said she was an absolute bitch.
My friend was in a restaurant some years ago when Alex James was there and he really badly bullied one of the waitresses. She said he was an utter arsehole.

GabsAlot · 19/11/2018 18:28

gaby roslin is a bitch well was 20 odd years ago

catnap99 · 19/11/2018 18:30

I stayed at a hotel in Hinckley about 2 years ago and Warwick Davis was there for a Little People UK meeting. I didn't realize what was going on, came down to breakfast and walked into the conservatory. A man and his son were leaving a table, with bowls in their hands. I wasnt sure if they were coming back (buffet breakfast) so, as we met in the doorway (me going in and him coming out) I asked "excuse me, are you done with the table?" Obviously it was Warwick. He gave me the filthiest look, grunted at me and left, instantly taking a seat in the main dining room with other guests from his meeting!

My sons are huge harry potter fans (although they didnt have a clue who he was due to him not looking like professor Flitwick in real life!) but he glared at everyone so much during breakfast I didnt dare go over. Saw his son behaving like an entitled prick and splashing guests by the pool later that day though. One lady asked him to stop and he laughed and carried on!

Bumped into Chris Packham while leaving a building quite recently and asked him for an autograph for dh as he’s a Spring/Autumn watch fan. CP was really friendly and kind. Many years ago attended various events which involved socialising with writers such as John Mortimer, Margaret Atwood and Fay Weldon. They were entertaining, irreverant and great at putting people at ease. Once went to a student party attended by Jarvis Cocker. He didn’t stay long and I didn’t even realise he was there till I spotted a pair of immensely long legs striding past where I sat perched on the floor. They were such friendly looking legs too Went to a festive reading by James Norton at the Globe a few years ago. A member of the audience was unwell and he stopped the reading so that he could go and help and was very caring and solicitous.

DarlingNikita · 19/11/2018 18:33

Awwwwww re James Norton. I always think he looks like such a nice young man. Hot too.

Uniquack · 19/11/2018 18:35

Not idols, but Richard Branson and Dolph Lundgren are both lovely and friendly Grin.

Norma27 · 19/11/2018 18:42

John challis (boycie) absolute gentleman. I fell in love with him!
Lenny Henry - absolute arsehole!
Alexis Sayle- really lovely
Used to know Neil Morrisey in his Boon days. Really lovely too.
Sat next to Noel Edmonds one year watching panto. Didn’t even realise until after interval but he seemed pleasant enough.

Norma27 · 19/11/2018 18:45

I’ve not met her but know people who know Emma Willis and she is supposed to be really lovely and down to earth.

Fartymcnarty · 19/11/2018 18:51

Ian Watkins of Lost Prophets fame, was nice enough but rather narcissistic, oh and he’s now in prison for paedophilia!!!!

MissMarplesKnitting · 19/11/2018 18:52

James Norton can read to me any day swoon

TaterHater · 19/11/2018 18:56

As a PP asked

Monica from master chef is an absolute sweetheart- very warm hearted and sweet-

Won’t say how I know but it’s first hand.

cricketmum84 · 19/11/2018 18:56

As a teenager me and a group of friends spotted the lead singer of a rock band in a record shop, this was back in the day when gig tickets were sold in the independent record shops.

He was playing a gig in the city that night and we were desperately trying to find 4 tickets for his show!!

One of the braver members of the group approached him, explained we had been trying to get tickets all day and he actually put us on the guest list and gave us all hugs!!

He was so lovely!

MrsJayy · 19/11/2018 18:57

We waved to Lenny Henry when he was walking back to a caravan he was filming broadchurch i wasn't expecting him to come over just a nod he just glared at us my heart broke into a million pieces Grin

ForalltheSaints · 19/11/2018 18:59

I have never met anyone who has been one of my idols, but have met two who were idols of friends of mine (musicians) and who were both polite and courteous. Of those well known that I have met, a former Prime Minister was polite, and two well known poets too.

Queenhoneybee · 19/11/2018 19:02

I've met quite a few through various jobs. One that stands out was working with Peter Andre at the height of his fame first time round. Then years later whilst filming with Katie Price. Really interesting that he was a complete gentleman on both occasions. Really lovely, nothing was too much bother. Katie Price on the other hand, I vowed I will never work with her ever again.

alienor13 · 19/11/2018 19:03

Met Robbie Williams morning after my wedding. He was lovely.
Was a bit disappointed in LLoyd Cole who invited himself to a uni ball after a concert and very much saw himself as the star attraction.
Also met Sir Kenny Dalglish. He was unassuming, seemed shy but very pleasant to my star struck DH.

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 19/11/2018 19:05

Oh, I was with my brother when we met someone he was a huge fan of in the early 80s: Fish from Marillion. He signed an autograph for DB. DB said "Thank you", and Fish replied. "No... Thank YOU"

Lovely that someone successful appreciates the people who put them there.
