Today I almost met somebody who has been a big figure in my life. It took ages to pluck up the courage to speak to them and I was totally dismissed. I wasn’t being a “gushing fan” and it was a setting that was laid back. Everyone else was lovely. Have tou ever met someone you admire and wish you hadn’t?

Jimmy Saville 🙄

Yes, he was a bit creepy.

My friend recently met Fleur East and said she was absolutely lovely.

BlueThesaurusRex · 25/11/2018 18:18

Oh and my dad met Princess Di and Roger Moore... said they were both very snooty !

stillreadviz · 25/11/2018 18:40

Both Alexa Chung and Noel Fielding were absolutely lovely, no ego, just very sweet & funny.

stillreadviz · 25/11/2018 19:07

Ooh also, I was chatting away with Jay and Ritchie from Five for ages in a pub on NY circa 2009 having no idea who they were, they were so interested in my life and utterly sweet and down to earth, my ex husband who I with at the time thought it was hilarious afterwards that I had no idea who they were! Keith Flint from the Prodigy was very pleasant, unrecognisable from his stage persona, just in a waxed jacket with his dogs!

Nanny0gg · 25/11/2018 20:05

Sid from Let's Play on CBeebies is lovely. Spent ages after his show talking to the children and having his photo taken. Must have been virtually the whole audience.

Still gutted that I missed Terry Pratchett when he came to do a book signing locally - I was too shy to go Blush

OlennasWimple · 25/11/2018 20:15

Not idols, but Greg Rusedski and Tim Henman were normal and lovely when I met them. Boris Becker was drunk and a bit letchy. Greg's wife was a bit diva-ish - dark sunglasses inside and thinking that she would be more recognised than she was (I wouldn't have known who she was without her behaviour and hanging onto Greg's arm)

That's so cute. Grin

My OH was an extra in the film ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ he said Tom Cruise was a lovely bloke- he signed my Rock of Ages Blu ray for me!. Bill Paxton was off his face most mornings, Charlotte Riley (Tom Hardy’s wife) was really nice and very small! And Tom Hardy was very plesant as well and only about 5 foot 6 tall.

2 years later I met Tom Cruise at a hotel he was staying at while filming part of Mission Impossible 3. He helped take the pushchair down some stairs for me (what a gentleman) and then posed for a selfie with me and my mum (who was like a giggly teenager!)
When i was about 9 years old i met wolf from Gladiators in Ibiza airport- he was so kind, signed my gladiators annual, spoke to us for ages and then came and said goodbye when we landed back at gatwick

GabsAlot · 26/11/2018 20:46

thats so nice to hear about the two toms always wonderedd whther cruise was just nice at screenings but sounds like a gent

Doyouavocado · 26/11/2018 21:24

Why do some people tell their story but won’t name the actual celeb?? What’s the point of telling us then!!!

Sheitgeist · 26/11/2018 21:48

Glad to hear Tom Cruise is nice and not a weirdo. I remember being impressed by him some years ago when some "pranksters" squirted him with something at a red carpet situation (prank was for some stupid Ch4 programme and was never broadcast anyway). He really called them out on it and made them look foolish. Good for him.

Hellomatey001 · 26/11/2018 23:22

Alison Hammond was lovely. She was getting her eyebrows threaded in Debenhams in those brow bars, (painful and lying with head tilted back) but still did not stop some random man asking for a photo!

She obliged smiling all the way, whilst said man just shoved the cameraphone in my hand as I was standing nearby, without even asking whether I minded taking a photo. Took a photo, man grabbed the phone back off me, but Alison Hammond was still utterly polite to him and chatted away.

I should have legged it with the phone when I had the chance.

MonsterTequila · 27/11/2018 00:16

Phillip Schofield visits occasionally (or used to, not sure if he still does) where I used to live. Didn’t meet him myself but a few of the other mums said he’s really nice!

Jamiefraserskilt · 27/11/2018 00:34

I adored James Hunt and hated Nicky Lauda. Met both. James was up himself and dismissive and Nicky was charming and lovely. My teen heart was broken.
Brian Connelly from the Sweet. Serious kid crush, huge posters on the wall etc. met him as a older drink ravaged man who couldn't hold a note. Gutted.

grace7 · 27/11/2018 00:50

Has anyone met Michael Jackson or Prince? Blush

Menarefrommarsitwouldseem · 27/11/2018 01:10

I have a massive crush/soft spot for Danny Dyer. Not my usual type at all but I love him.
I met him once and he was a real gentleman and just so friendly. Oh and gorgeous.

I had the 'pleasure' of meeting Stan Collymore in a nightclub once. Wasn't a fan anyway. However, he came over and said hello. I said hi back and without missing a beat he said " do you want to fuck me in the toilet?"

I was like Confused ermm no thanks. And then he piped up " don't you know who I am?" Hahaha Jesus Christ!
Utterly bizarre.

Cocolepew · 27/11/2018 08:02

Grace7 2 people mention Prince, good reports (obviously, because he's God).

Abeautifulpeagreenboat · 27/11/2018 08:40

Not surprised about Stan Collymore, after all he is an abuser of women. If he could do what he did to Ulrika in public, what on earth is he like in private?

WishfulSprouts · 27/11/2018 09:16

Was going to say the same Stan Collymore is a disgrace how he’s been able to go on and have a successful broadcasting career after attacking Ulrika and his ex wife as well is beyond belief.

pumpastrotter · 27/11/2018 09:37

@Menarefrommarsitwouldseem my sister had a similar run in with him! We live near where he got caught dogging too Envy < definitely not envy

This was before he was known for abusing Ulrika or else I would have thrown my drink at him.

He was something else. He was utterly serious too. When I read that he had been caught dogging I wasn't at all suprised.

Everytime I hear his voice it makes me shudder and I too am appalled that he's still allowed to earn a living broadcasting. Vile man.

pumpastrotter · 27/11/2018 11:05

Not sure when the Ulrika stuff happened, but this was the early 90s and he would frequent the local clubs. He also chased a friend's aunt and bought her some tacky jewelry around the same time.

I met Stan collymore loads before his ulrika days and he wasn’t very nice. Dwight Yorke was always there too and he was also vile. They both tried it on constantly, especially with my best friend.
Ugo Ehiogu, who recently died, was there often too but was lovely.
