Today I almost met somebody who has been a big figure in my life. It took ages to pluck up the courage to speak to them and I was totally dismissed. I wasn’t being a “gushing fan” and it was a setting that was laid back. Everyone else was lovely. Have tou ever met someone you admire and wish you hadn’t?

My dad was in the Falklands. He was bringing out the wounded when Prince Andrew was there and said he was a massive arsehole and that none of the other military could stand him.

Workreturner · 23/11/2018 18:00

Any one met graham norton?

Polarbearflavour · 23/11/2018 18:01

I liked John Simm too - very down to Earth!

Buddywoo · 23/11/2018 18:05

In 1963 I was working in liverpool. I was friends with a girl who was a hairdresser and had worked with and was friends with Ringo's first wife Maureen.

We were walking round the town centre one Saturday morning when there was a screech of brakes and a sports car pulled up. It was Paul Macartney who talked to my friend and invited her to his 2lst birthday party. I am afraid I was ignored. However he seemed very nice and he was always my favourite Beatle.

DarlingNikita · 23/11/2018 18:09

Work, yes, me and a few others have mentioned him. Just search in the thread.

marine04 · 23/11/2018 18:09

@WendyWoofer was Lucie Jones really that bad? I met her at a Christmas event for children with special needs the year she was in X-Factor. She was absolutely lovely and couldn't do enough with the kids. I have some lovely photos of her holding one of my daughters on a sleigh ride. If she's changed over the years it's a shame.

Workreturner · 23/11/2018 18:13

@DarlingNikita

Too long
Is the consensus positive? I love him

Clawdy · 23/11/2018 18:15

A friend I taught with was invited with her friend to a party on board a Royal Navy ship years ago, and Prince Andrew introduced himself, and chatted them both up ( he was single then.) She said he was charming and good looking, but had "rather a big bum..."!

DarlingNikita · 23/11/2018 18:16

Work, it's not heard or tedious, really, just Apple key and F/Ctrl and F.

But yes Smile

DarlingNikita · 23/11/2018 18:16

*hard

Workreturner · 23/11/2018 18:24

Yes miss

moita · 23/11/2018 19:35

Jim Davidson on the other hand was an absolute copper-bottomed cunt.

Yes a friend of mine worked in a theatre and said he was rude to all the staff - no one liked him.

I met Tony Benn (RIP). Lovely, sweet man. One of my heroes

IndieTara · 23/11/2018 20:00

@Workreturner I've met Graham Norton but I was at his TV show and was one of the people in the audience he spoke to. Not his current chat show

e1y1 · 23/11/2018 20:18

Sooo pleased that Kate Winslet, Steps and Sophie Ellis Bextor are lovely, be a shame if they weren't.

Funny thing about Steps, have seen in interviews that they can be sharp with journalists who ask too probing questions - but in fairness, they don't try to hide it and the journalists are goading.

Always the same ones that come up as being vile on these threads, especially above all - Barbara Windsor, Cilla Black, Peter Kaye. I believe that CB was British Airways air crews most single hated passenger.

My DM is a teacher at the school where Peter Kay's children attend, and have to admit isn't regarded to be the most pleasant.

rosetulip · 23/11/2018 20:59

Isn’t it a shame when they’re nasty, makes you wonder why they are that way. Without the fans they’d be nothing.

Pursefirst · 23/11/2018 21:16

This may be outing, but for the RPDR fans I hope might be fun:

Alyssa Edwards - absolutely charming, slightly barmy and a D-I-V-A, but in the nicest possible way
Trixie Mattel - horrible. Really obnoxious, difficult and looked bored throughout
Kim Chi - a poppet
Bob the Drag Queen - THE most fun ever and responsible for one of the worst hangovers of my entire life
Bendela - super, super professional. Quite quiet and very clever
Detox - dirtiest laugh and the maddest sense of humour. Super talented
Monet - Mad as ten boxes of frogs and so much fun
Ginger Minj - very sweet and hilarious
Shangela - OMG, the Queen. So professional, charismatic, kind, makes time for ALL her fans and is just the sweetest person

(This will really out me, but my BFF is a booker/promoter, so we get to hang out with the queens before and after the shows)

HairyToity · 23/11/2018 21:18

A person I know who worked for the Royal family for many years, says his favourite two are Prince Philip and Camilla. Never heard anything about the rest, but got the impression he didn't care for them.

Met Katherine Jenkins once, and thought she was lovely.

MrsMrsMrsMrs · 23/11/2018 21:30

@queenrollo
I also met Matt Lucas. We were back stage between scenes as my DD was on the stage with them in Little Britain playing their little daughter. He was dressed as a woman... I said something like ‘you look fabulous ‘ and he totally blanked me. I felt so stupid! David Walliams on the other hand was chatty to my daughter before they went on stage

Chris Evans was the loveliest famous person I’ve met. Sat and chatted with him at his table. He asked me loads of questions and I was rather trollied!

highheelsandbobblehats · 23/11/2018 21:34

Pursefirst (I LOVE your name, Bob is my favourite!). I feel that you and I need to make friends please. I have tickets for Christmas Queens on the 11th. And as yet no-one go go with.

YoThePussy · 23/11/2018 23:14

Dian Fossey was supposed to have a sharp tongue. She did very little promotion for her book Gorillas In The Mist, I believe only one talk in London. I went and she was so lovely. When it came to time for Q&As at the end she said she would take questions from children first and if time after anyone else. I still have a slight girl crush on her and treasure my signed copy of Gorillas in the Mist.

covetingthepreciousthings · 23/11/2018 23:38

Has anyone ever met Will Smith? I'd be absolutely gutted if he was anything other than lovely.

ineedagasmask · 24/11/2018 00:23

Yip met Nik Kershaw after a concert after 30 plus years of thinking him the best, he put on a sarcastic forced fake smile and couldn’t wait to get away was totally gutted and I can’t even listen to his music now...my childhood dream of meeting him was shattered. How difficult is it just to smile at your fans who’ve invested thousands in your career?

alltoomuchrightnow · 24/11/2018 02:04

Coveting, my partner works in music and has met him.
Said his entourage was huge, OTT and totally obnoxious. WS himself not so but was surrounded by these idiots so hard to get a proper impression

strawberrisc · 24/11/2018 07:49

Gutted about Peter Kay.
