I'm massively ashamed.
Friday night I met my boyfriends family as they had a party and I made a total fool of myself.
I drank 1l of vodka,I tried to kiss my boyfriends brother,I fell down some stairs.
I told his sisters and gran (who is 82) they were "swear words"
I can't remember any of it.
They've told me I'm not welcome in their home again.
Can I redeem myself here?
Do you think boyfriend will dump me?

The 1 litre vodka is important. She may ot may not have drunk that amount exactly. But instead of just saying she drank to the point of memory loss, she specified an amount which could have left her dead.

Now why would she want to describe her drinking in those terms? Is it a cry for help, or an attempt to find some laddish cronies who will help her normalise it?

DeadButDelicious · 18/11/2018 18:05

Cani, She says she feels ashamed of herself. Sounds like remorse to me.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 18/11/2018 18:10

Maybe it's just a fact, and put in there to illustrate that she really was dink and in blackout mode.
I used to drink 3 bottles of wine a night. Fact. It was too much, Also fact. I used to blackout, fact.

The 1L is important as it seems she definitely had most of it and being able to put that away without passing out / vomiting indicates a certain level of resistance which indicates that OP is drinking too much on the regular.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 18/11/2018 18:11

Well not on the 3 botts wine but when I went out and had more.

Laddish call to arms wtf

GreenFieldsofFrance · 18/11/2018 19:47

Op, i've been in horrendously similar situations, funnily enough at your age (I'm old now ;) Mind yourself, keep on at the anti depressants, give yourself some attention. You'll be ok, just put it behind you and learn from it. There's nothing to be gained from shame unless you harness it and stay away from situations where you could end up in the same state. As for the family being in the same town, it's not ideal but what can you do other than get on with your life? Don't waste energy worrying about bumping into them, you probably will, and no one's going to die. They've probably all had their moments of abject shame in their lives. You'll be yesterday's news by the new year Thanks

Mucky1 · 18/11/2018 19:55

Absolutely no point beating your self up over this any more. It's happened and it can't be undone just learn from it and move on, if you worry about it to much you will end up ill. :) chin up the worst is behind you.

LondonLassInTheCountry · 18/11/2018 19:56

I could easily drink 1l of vodka and her age and much younger. On the ODD occasion.
When ur out with mates drinking double vodkas for a whole evening, its very easily done

To kiss the brother and swear at an old lady, that is not normal

You can not excuse your behaviour because you suffer with Anxiety

You need to stop drinking.

CorBlimeyGovenor · 18/11/2018 20:06

I think that you've come to the wrong place for sympathy, sadly. You may have a drink problem, you might not ( I don't profess to know how often or how much you drink or whether you drank 2/3rds of a bottle, or nearly all). But I would apologise. They deserve a nice hand written note. And you deserve to then put it to the back of your mind. What concerns me is that you are too ashamed to tell your friends. In a situation like this you need to tell your friends. They may be supportive, they may feel that you need a little help (they after all know you better than a group of strangers on a forum) or they forever take the piss out of you. Either way, your friends are your friends, so open up and tell them. That's what friends are for.

GreenFieldsofFrance · 18/11/2018 20:12

Yes, corblimey is right. Tell your friends, relive the horrors and let them react how they react. Honestly the only thing that got me through my same period of disgraceful drunken behaviour was being able to off load on my dsis, who would always manage to find a caveat as to why it wasn't bad, though it always, absolutely was and I knew it, it was nice to be reminded that someone had my back!

greendale17 · 18/11/2018 20:15

I do stupid things when I drink vodka.
My friends have told me this before.

^Yet you continue to drink vodka and excessive amounts at that.

If I was your boyfriend I would dump you

Omzlas · 18/11/2018 20:20

I can't believe he didn't take me home sooner

Really? So it's your fault you drank so much that you behaved like an utter cockwomble towards his family?

I'd dump you too

Stop drinking. If you can't, seek help with it.
Sertraline + alcohol is never a good combination but you already know that drinking spirits turns you into a not-nice person, yet you did it anyway.

Also, drinking does NOT help anxiety, as smoking doesn't. It gives the illusion that it does but absolutely doesn't.

animallikeyou · 18/11/2018 20:41

Oh gosh, terrible situation OP but I think you need to stop mixing medication and alcohol.

I was prescribed 10mg propanalol once a day for migraines and my doctor was explicit in the fact that I should not drink alcohol at all.

Don’t beat yourself up about it too much, you can’t change the past but you can change your future.

All the best.

SaucyJack · 18/11/2018 21:31

“was I could easily drink 1l of vodka and her age and much younger. On the ODD occasion.

No, nineteen double vodkas is not easily done by anyone who doesn’t have a serious drinking problem.

MrsStrowman · 19/11/2018 06:41

is this your first time on MN? OPs are told to LTB if their male partner’s lazy eye looks in the direction of another woman. Quote of the thread 😂

The amount of vodka whilst medically dangerous isn't the indicator of the problem, the OP acknowledged she is self medicating which is. Alcohol is also negatively affecting her relationships, including friendships -people have told her she behaves badly when drunk before. She also blames vodka, this would be the same with that much alcohol regardless of the type. These things are indicative of problematic drinking. Most people have had one too many and made a bit of a tit of themselves when young (I broke a wrist falling off some high heels after a few too many once) , what the OP describes is beyond that. I hope you seek some help with your mental health and choose to refrain from alcohol on medication and until you're in a more stable place OP.
