In 5/10 years we’ll see those young people (with their ‘adapted’ bodies, huge education debts and Brexit) and say ‘I told you so but you thought you were so woke and didn’t listen to the middle aged women who have lived experience’ and shrug.

But like so many of you, I’m not prepared to go down without a fight. I’m just not prepared to let young people down like that.

I think the thing that scares me most is that crime statistics will be altered if the GRA goes ahead simply because people with penises who declare themselves women can claim to be women, be housed in women's prisons and have their crimes noted as women's crimes. In what world is that acceptable?

We all have to right to be authentic about who we are, our histories, how we want to express ourselves and our identity, how we want to look and behave...being male or female shouldn’t inhibit or oppress any of that - but that can never include forcing others to lie and collude for you, support whatever bit of make-believe you want at a given time.

There is a biological reality to the oppression of women.

It's telling that to give examples of female sex killers, JAPAB had to hark back to Rose West (convicted 1995) and Myra Hindley (convicted 1966). Women like this are vanishingly rare. Men who rape and murder are sadly not rare enough.

I can think of quite a number off the top of my head. And of course Hindley and West were not alone. They offended in tandem with their male partners.

Male and female criminals offend in dramatically different ways. Very few women commit violent offences. There are only 120 women in prison for sex offences, compared to 14,000 men. That's fewer than one women for every hundred men.

Men are very much more dangerous as a group than women, and transition doesn't change that, as demonstrated by the number of transwomen in prison for sex and violent crime.

Of course women aren't men. Of course women don't have penises. YADNBU, OP.

But the 5000 was predicted by doctors and has proven correct, as established by the numbers over 15 years who have applied.

The only reason there is such a huge push to change the law is because the others who are excluded above that level cannot or will not go through the gatekeeping in place to try to qualify under the rules set up. Because they would fail the assessment process.

Whatever we do the answer surely is not to say that the law is failing because the gatekeeping is apparently doing too good a job.

So scrap all the gatekeeping and let anyone in.

I have seen tweets/posts quoted online, where someone is telling lesbians that they should stop being so focussed on genitalia, when they say they don’t want PIV sex. I am glad you are not being pressured, but some lesbians are.

Ahh there’s loads of shouts of ‘transphobia’ and ‘I have to leave now because you’ve hurt my feelings/I’m upset’ when it’s not going your way - and it’s because the argument simply can’t be won.

Bollocks to it. I’m not transphobic. I care A LOT that people with GD, mental health issues, wanting to erase themselves, not wanting to conform, rejecting masculinity/feminist - whatever it is that makes them want to change their body in the belief of makes them happy. I want them to have all the support, access to heath care, community. 100%, no doubt in the individuals mind. I don’t want TRAs/middle aged men with a fetish grooming young people to validate themselves. And you don’t have to scrape far below the surface of Twitter to find misogyny and porn drives some of it. There’s a fuck of a ‘spectrum’ there, and a lot of what we see is harmful.
