To want to make my bed like a hotel bed

Basically we’ve had the same duvet and pillows for six years. They are the cheapest feather ones you can get from Argos. I grew up quite poor and didn’t even know what a feather duvet was til I was 25 so they seem pure luxury to me.
I really want my bed to feel amazing. We have a good bed and decent mattress but my pillows are saggy and shite. I like linen bedding but have only one option in that which is from H&M.
I’d like to invest in a new duvet/pillows and bedding that will feel like I’m in a hotel. I don’t have loads of money but I could buy stuff bit by bit. People with amazing beds help me!

Trust me - latex pillows. Best purchase I ever made.

HildaZelda · 09/11/2018 22:12

Mattress topper. Slept on one in a fancy hotel last year. Went out and bought one a week later. Feels AMAZING!

Arthur2shedsJackson · 09/11/2018 22:13

My bed has ‘hotel quality’ Egyptian cotton bedding - always to be found in department store sales - feather pillows, the best duvet I can afford and - best of all - a mattress topper. Best investment ever.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 09/11/2018 22:13

I like the bedding from soak and sleep. I’ve bought stuff there in the sale.

Duvets/covers/pillows do not have to be expensive treat yourself bit by bit

Goandplay · 09/11/2018 22:16

Satin cotton duvet cover. Crunchy like a hotel. Start with pillows. Then a bed linen set that’s as expensive as you can afford but do the work, go and feel the material etc. I have one set that I wash dry and put back on (I have a spare set), I’ve had this set for a couple of years and wanted to treat myself to a new set but couldn’t find anything that felt as good.
Then a feather duvet, again the best you can afford, going round feeling them etc. Take time to make your choice. The longer you spend the more money you can save towards it.
I love my bed.

100% cotton bedlinen - at least 200 thread count. Lots of places sell it now so shouldn't be prohibitively expensive. It feels so much nicer to sleep on than polycotton.

Mercier1 · 09/11/2018 22:19

Ok hit me with shops/brands. Never even heard of a latex pillow?! We have a Hypnos mattress- what kind of topper would you suggest? Also I have bought bedding on JL house of Frazier and TK Max but none are right- not crunchy enough I think ?!

We have a superking down duvet on a king size bed, latex pillows, a down mattress topper and lovely white high thread count sheets in the summer, brushed cotton in the winter.

I love my bed and hotel beds are never as nice

Chouetted · 09/11/2018 22:36

I thought the max thread count was about 400-500? You simply can't physically fit 900 threads in a square inch.

I don't think I'd trust a manufacturer claiming counts that high!

Mercier1 · 09/11/2018 22:36

King of Cotton is a lot cheaper than the Soak and Sleep. Interesting. A duvet is like £400 though.... 😪

@chouette it goes to 1000 🙈 what do you recommend ?

thenightsky · 09/11/2018 22:39

Latex/rubber pillows by Dunlopillow.

PlainVanilla · 09/11/2018 22:39

John Lewis for pillows and a down duvet.
Ada and Ina for pure linen bedding. You will never want to get up ;-)

tor8181 · 09/11/2018 22:39

20 tog king side quilt with brushed cotton quilt cover and bottom sheet for us(bought from amazon)we have a queen sized bed but like the quilt to be over

my 8 y old wont sleep on any other bedding as he cant tolerate the feel of normal cotton ones as he has SPD

Santaispolishinghissleigh · 09/11/2018 22:40

Look on ebay for factory seconds. I got a matress topper for less than £20 and a 3 tog option duvet for less than £30!!

thenightsky · 09/11/2018 22:41

these

Mercier1 · 09/11/2018 22:41

@tor8181 isn’t your Bed roasting with a 20
Tog? A winter one is normally 13.5 I thought?

@mercier1 Sorry, can't help you there, I've had my current M&S Supima sheets for about ten years - I think they're 300. I'd recommend them, but the time machine might be a bit expensive!

My gut feeling is that the quality might not be as good these days...

Noloudnoises · 09/11/2018 22:44

The white company is my favourite. Or the 800 or 1000 count bed sheets in John Lewis.

ImNotKitten · 09/11/2018 22:44

Latex pillows you say? Sounds weird?

Regarding bedding, treat yourself OP! We spend so many hours of our life in bed. I love my 100% cotton bedlinen and prefer my own bed to a hotel. I have 500 thread count in winter and 200 in the warmer months.

DaysOfCurlySpencer · 09/11/2018 22:45

You don't have to have feathers, not all hotels use them due to allergies so you could get a cotton or poly cotton covered man made duvet, they tend to be lighter but the tog ratings are the same as the feather ones. I won't buy feathers because most of them are ripped out of the birds while they are alive, and after a while they go flat, Also find the pointy ends poke through the covers.

I got my last lot of sheets from Debenhams, worth looking when there is a sale as John Lewis has stopped selling the ones I liked. It might be worth saving up for duvet covers, mine tend to be around £200 but they will last me for the rest of my life.
