To want to make my bed like a hotel bed

Basically we’ve had the same duvet and pillows for six years. They are the cheapest feather ones you can get from Argos. I grew up quite poor and didn’t even know what a feather duvet was til I was 25 so they seem pure luxury to me.
I really want my bed to feel amazing. We have a good bed and decent mattress but my pillows are saggy and shite. I like linen bedding but have only one option in that which is from H&M.
I’d like to invest in a new duvet/pillows and bedding that will feel like I’m in a hotel. I don’t have loads of money but I could buy stuff bit by bit. People with amazing beds help me!

Dunlopillo £60 for a pillow - really! Are they that good?

I like my bed it’s my favourite place. I’m tempted with the pillows if they really are that good.

I think I want crunchy and heavy over cloud like. These pillows are spendy... are they that amazing?!

I had Dunlopillo pillows and loved them ...

Have passed them down to son and replaced with Soak and Sleep Soft as Down pillows - much prefer them. Not sure if that's because they're better or because the old ones were suffering from old age.

I've never had great success with washing pillows, so that might be where I went wrong.

This thread is made for me! I never looked back after changing bed and linen. It’s all about thread count for me. I did get different sized pillows all feathered and duvet ect too.

Anyway it can be expensive but you can sale shop and put your dream bed together bit by bit. Higher the thread count the better, wave goodbye to most pretty patterns tho, higher thread counts that are worth their salt tend to be plain. Like white plain.

Dunlen mills (I’ve spelt that wrong) is where I get most of my bedding. I’ll sleep in no less than 300 thread count (lucky I’ve got all my friends on board or I couldn’t sleep anywhere!) but I have 1000 thread count and it’s pure heaven.

Grin you will love it!!

I want to do this but I know the feeling of comfort is from the crisp white cotton sheets. Hotels send their sheets out to be washed and pressed in big machines. I once tried to iron my duvet cover and nearly had a breakdown. Fuck that.

Poppylizzyrose · 11/11/2018 23:48

Dunelm* is shop I meant. Yes they have hotel range or look at their dorma range too for luxury. I’d actually start with high thread count sheet if I was on a budget. Before my friends updated their bedding I took a sheet to have like over me and their covers over the top....I know I’m obsessed 🙈but I literally couldn’t sleep.

Dulopillo… £60. Yes, yes and a million times yes. Buy one and decide. I've not met anyone who hasn't bought one then gone on to get more.

Cynderella · 11/11/2018 23:56

When my kids were little, they knew I had an iron in a cupboard, but they didn't realise it could get hot because I used it so rarely.

Gradually, I've had to iron more but once I invested in a steam generator iron, that hasn't been a problem. It's so much faster and easier, I iron things like tea towels - I used to mock my mother for that.

So ironing isn't an issue. Except king size fitted sheets. Such a faff. Duvet covers easier but so much of them.

And now, my lovely cotton bedding. I am not liking the ironing - then I get into bed and it's worth it. With an ordinary iron, I don't think it would be.

I'm very fussy about pillows, not so much the mattress. Go to M&S or John Lewis etc and actually lie down on a bed with their pillows.

Saracen · 12/11/2018 01:57

I have a TK Maxx near me and there is some great bedlinen at fantastic prices. I was spoilt by my lovely late MIL. Now I am very fussy about the feel of the sheets. So I have to go in the shop and open the packaging to feel it, ignoring the signs prohibiting it. No way should anyone be expected to buy a sheet they haven't touched first!!!

TheLoverOfTea · 12/11/2018 02:31

What thickness mattress topper is worth getting?

Cuddlykitten123 · 12/11/2018 08:44

Black Friday is coming up... got a few weeks to research all these fab sugguestions 😁

sashh · 12/11/2018 09:00

I HATE feather pillows and duvets, they end up all saggy and full of dusst mite poo.

I agreee with latex pillows, I have a matress with a latex top layer. It is the most comfortable matress in the world.

Yes to a trip to Dunelm.

Spam88 · 12/11/2018 09:15

The dunlopillos are definitely worth the money! I had my last ones for about 12 years and they were still going strong (but we got bedbugs so I binned everything, otherwise we'd still have them).

MuffinMad · 12/11/2018 09:27

We stayed in a hotel some years ago and they had the most thick and fluffy feather quilt on the bed. I have always had polyester, so I thought we would treat ourselves.

I purchased a great quality feather quilt from Dunelm. Cost about £100, but well worth it,I love it. It's so light but thick. Very comfy.

I have to send it out to be laundered though.

Also I recommend Ikea Nattjasmin quilt cover sets. Made from lyocell and cotton. Does have that 'crinkle' feel and lovely to sleep in.

loveka · 12/11/2018 09:31

Soak and Sleep! I have holiday lets, and I get so many nice comments. Their toppers are amazing, and very good value.

Cynderella · 12/11/2018 10:43

Leaves to look at Soak and Sleep toppers ...

MrsApplepants · 15/11/2018 00:39

Dunlopillos are sent from heaven. Worth every penny and last and last. Wash well too, although take ages to dry but ok in airing cupboard

tumpymummy · 16/11/2018 08:20

I like my memory foam pillow from Dunelm mills. Best value around at £20.

Ontheboardwalk · 18/11/2018 19:22

Ok ok so I gave into the advice and am now the owner of two Dunlopillos. I'll let you know what I think of them!

I would like to say however poor show from Amazon. Two pillows do not need half a box full of packaging to stop them getting damaged in transit. The box was twice the size it needed to be.
