To want to make my bed like a hotel bed

Basically we’ve had the same duvet and pillows for six years. They are the cheapest feather ones you can get from Argos. I grew up quite poor and didn’t even know what a feather duvet was til I was 25 so they seem pure luxury to me.
I really want my bed to feel amazing. We have a good bed and decent mattress but my pillows are saggy and shite. I like linen bedding but have only one option in that which is from H&M.
I’d like to invest in a new duvet/pillows and bedding that will feel like I’m in a hotel. I don’t have loads of money but I could buy stuff bit by bit. People with amazing beds help me!

Also consider ordering square pillows from Germany online (plus pillowcases etc).

So much more supportive and better for the back

I got my new duvet from these guys....

www.diamondbedding.co.uk/products/hungarian-goose-down-duvet?variant=30699817348

High quality and the feathers aren't harvested in a cruel way, which is important to me. The duvet is amazing. Really fluffy and warm. Like a cloud.

I'm going to get their pillows next, although will also look into latex ones based on this thread.

We are in the market for a mattress topper. The people recommending them, which ones did you buy?

SingleCellParamecium · 09/11/2018 22:50

Just got a Simba mattress and it is amazingly comfy. But also the pillows which came with it - they have memory foam beads in them and you can take handfuls out to make the pillow just the right height and squishiness. Amazing after years of struggling with too hard, too high or too low pillow combinations and never quite finding the right one. Has stopped the neck ache and backache I used to wake up with.

Fucksgiven · 09/11/2018 22:51

Get 14 sets of heavy hotel quality. Change daily. Buy new pillows as soon as needed. Get service wash and iron for bedding. TaDa hotel bed every night.

I used to do this (crazy) and now only bother twice a week (am aiming for weekly)

Jent13c · 09/11/2018 22:52

I just got new white cover and sheets from home sense. Go for the highest thread count you can afford and even then they were still under £40. Ironing them is a pain but does make them look amazing. I also swear by a bed spread, I got mine from Zara home, not cheap but I think they occasionally have sales. It just makes the bed look more finished.

ILoveAllRainbows · 09/11/2018 22:53

Get a wool duvet. So much better than feather as the filling doesn't clump together.

iwillgetout · 09/11/2018 22:54

Tkmaxx is AMAZING for high thread count bedding - look for 500 count plus. (I'm ex hotel manager and will only do good bedding)

DerelictWreck · 09/11/2018 22:54

John Lewis do a hypo allergenic duvet which is the best thing I've ever had. I have no allergies and it's not what I set out to get, but a guest room I slept in had one and it was so luxurious I pulled back the covers and fished it the label!

Now everyone who visits me go away and buys one! All the family have got them and now my friends have started best but is it only costs £80 for a king size all seasons set and they do pillows too!

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 09/11/2018 22:55

Sales are your friend!

We have a super king bed and full price linen is expensive, but I’ve got some great dept store. Bargains over the years. One of my tips is not to be too matchy - matchy, (this also helps with the bargain hunting).

We currently have white and grey with floral Cushions.

Tobebythesea · 09/11/2018 22:57

beaumontbrown.com/

These sheets are amazing.

Merryoldgoat · 09/11/2018 22:57

King of Cotton for definite.

Get some lovely oxford pillowcases too.

MrsWooster · 09/11/2018 22:58

Bargain beddings. Its an online place that does hotel bedding and the super king sheets and duvet covers are well under a tenner and they are gorgeous. All white, but i like that!

BlueSuffragette · 09/11/2018 22:59

Groupon do good deals on hotel quality bedding.

Spartacunt · 09/11/2018 23:00

White Company - wait for the sale and fill your boots with the best thread count you can afford. Lasts for ever...

Justletmego · 09/11/2018 23:01

The white company bedding, John Lewis duvets and pillows. Sorted!

SealSong · 09/11/2018 23:11

Learn how to fold your duvet into a swan

RadicalFern · 09/11/2018 23:14

Ikea do linen bedding, it’s nice and doesn’t cost a fortune.

SnipSnipMisterBurgess · 09/11/2018 23:14

Can I just say, the higher the thread count, the heavier the laundry basket. High thread count sucks up water and makes tumble drying time interminable. A nice ironing service nearby is a must.

MrsGollach · 09/11/2018 23:18

OP, you're only 25. Relax. Lots of good inexpensive bedding out there. Spend your money on fun things and keep the luxury linen stuff for another 15 years.

Haffiana · 09/11/2018 23:20

Baavet pure British wool duvets. Amazing.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 09/11/2018 23:22

Bargain Beddings have closed. Must have been too much of a bargain Confused

Polestar50 · 09/11/2018 23:22

Another vote for Soak and Sleep or White Company here.

We bought loads from S&S for a holiday cottage and can vouch for the quality. Withstands frequent high temp washing. Comes out crisp and fresh every time.

At home we've splashed out on White Company (Santorini). It is even better quality (finer drape and texture) than S&S but doesn't wash quite as easily and doesn't have quite the same dry hotel style crispness. Though is softer and overall a more luxurious feel.

Don't fall into the trap of thinking a v high thread count automatically equals high quality. A very high thread count means they use finer threads and usually translates into a tight/dense weave with less breathability.

All of our linen (from both WC and S&S) is 200 thread count and still feels v luxurious.

Ceilingrose · 09/11/2018 23:23

Who does these comfortable latex pillows?

MissLadyM · 09/11/2018 23:25

I got a cheap topper from Amazon for 25. Asda do surprisingly good pillows & duvets. Synthetic is better than feather- they get lumpy. Go to town in Egyptian percale cotton. John Lewis do a hotel range. it's always on offer and so worth it. Crispy cool cotton. .

bridgetreilly · 09/11/2018 23:25

I have bought really super-nice bedding in Homesense/TK Maxx. My current mattress topper was from Homesense and it has absolutely transformed my bed.
