AIBU to not wear panty liners every day?

Tbh this is a complete new one for me. Was having a conversation with a friend yesterday who wears panty liners every day and has done since she was 15. I’d never heard of this before and told her so. She told me I was a manky minge Grin and that everybody wore them. Is this true? Thoughts please ....

Exactly sinisterbum. Everyone is different. There's obviously a market for it and a genuine need. So end of really.

MuffyMcMoist · 08/11/2018 20:17

Yes. And nobody has denied this. What we are talking about is the the commercially motivated belief that all women need them every day

I think this thread has gone beyond that. It's obvious that people who do not need to use panty liners do not use them. That's pretty clear.

You are assuming that we are all a bit stupid.
We know if we need them or not. Let us judge for ourselves.

Everyoneiswingingit · 08/11/2018 20:18

Exactly sinister and Muffy the abuse on either side is shocking really. women abusing other women for what is normal for them.

If you have heavy discharge it makes sense to wear a panty liner for your own comfort and peace of mind.
If you choose not to or don't need to then that os fine too, you are not a dirty minger as has been said on here!

SinisterBumFacedCat · 08/11/2018 20:19

Muffy if that's a name change for this thread, I love it!

lostinjapan · 08/11/2018 20:22

God this thread is depressing. I get a lot of clear, sticky discharge for a few days mid-cycle (cervical mucus according to Google). I’ve never felt the need to see a doctor as I’ve been told by Google that it’s completely normal during ovulation (to a greater or lesser extent depending on the woman). I don’t really notice any discharge the rest of the month.

But according to people on here I’m abnormal, I’m gross, I’m smelly, I don’t wash properly, I’ve got a yeast infection/an STI... or at best I’m just brainwashed by the patriarchy or I shave my vulva too much (trust me, that makes ZERO difference to the amount of mucus coming out of my vagina!).

What’s funny is that all these ‘feminist’ replies about pantyliners being unnecessary actually come across as extremely misogynistic towards women who do have a genuine need for them. I actually think this is the most misogynistic and ignorant thread I’ve ever seen on Mumsnet.

As for why men don’t wear pantyliners? Well if they had a load of sticky mucus coming out of their penis maybe they would. But for a bit of sweat and the odd drop of wee on their underwear, it’s not really necessary. Walking around in soggy, mucus covered pants all day isn’t much fun, trust me (but hey, it’s apparently less gross than wearing pantyliners).

Plessis · 08/11/2018 20:24

Huh? Who said people who wear panty liners are smelly and don't wash?? You are making that up.

ProfessorMoody · 08/11/2018 20:26

No problem Smile

As for the intimacy question, I wear reusable ones so they're quite nice to look at. I have a Game of Thrones pad, because it's the only way I get to have Kit Harrington's face anywhere near my snatch and other colourful designs so to the untrained eye, they just look like part of my knickers.

Unfortunately I've been married for too long and we are past the "ripping clothes off" stage, plus my DH is generally aware of all my bodily functions in great detail and couldn't give a monkey's Grin

bananafish81 · 08/11/2018 20:29

Not everyone is prone to thrush

According to MN I should have permanent raging yeast infections

  • wear pantliners daily
  • in summer sleep in knickers (+liner) in bed
  • in winter sleep in knickers (+ liner) under pyjamas in bed

Apparently I should be wearing scuba gear to air things out

Never had thrush in my life. Or bv or any other infection.

Gynae was up close and personal downstairs sometimes several times a week during fertility treatment and everything on the outside at least cos the womb is totally fucked is in tip top nick

I feel more comfortable with one in. Don't like the feeling of going without. I really didn't think that was so objectionable but apparently I thought wrong!

(And I do my bit for the environment in plenty of other ways)

lostinjapan · 08/11/2018 20:30

Huh? Who said people who wear panty liners are smelly and don't wash?? You are making that up.

Lots of people, but here’s one example:

“That's bonkers, never done this. Absolutely no need for it as long as you wash normally and wear clean pants!”

Cambalamb · 08/11/2018 20:32

Others have said you are smelly, a minger and gross if you don't wear them!

Cambalamb · 08/11/2018 20:34

lost that is not what that poster meant. They said there is no need if you wash and wear clean pants. Not that wearers are smelly therefore they wear liners.

Plessis · 08/11/2018 20:35

“That's bonkers, never done this. Absolutely no need for it as long as you wash normally and wear clean pants!”

That doesn't say that people who wear them are smelly and gross.

Rigamorph · 08/11/2018 20:36

I guess we must all have different 'moisture' levels Blush

I would have thought though unless you are soaking through your pants, clean, 100% cotton knickers changed daily* should be sufficient? (That is what knickers are for, I thought).

*or more often if clammy in summer, after sports or amorous encounters!!

bananafish81 · 08/11/2018 20:37

Oh and re the NHS nurse bod who says that she's never encountered this level of discharge.

My first ever smear test aged 19 the nurse says 'ooh you have got a lot of discharge - is that normal?'

I don't know love, you're the person who looks up vaginas all day, you tell me!! Way to allay my first time nerves though, thanks. Hmm

(Gynae has no concerns, it's natural and normal and just that everybody has different bodies. Who knew.)

Sarzeyanne1 · 08/11/2018 20:38

Maybe she has a camel toe

SinisterBumFacedCat · 08/11/2018 20:51

I don't think women who don't wear liners are smelly or disgusting, I think they are lucky! But then I don't think women are smelly or disgusting I need general.

And yes we do wash and wear liners!

SinisterBumFacedCat · 08/11/2018 20:53

Plessis that comment was insinuating that women rely on liners so they don't have to wash or wear clean pants.

Homba · 08/11/2018 20:53

@EspressoButler raises hand to join the LS crew

Even tampons sometimes set off a flare. I can’t even imagine having to wear liners every day.

Doubletrouble99 · 08/11/2018 20:54

Never, what a daft thing to do!

Shewhomustbeobeyed1 · 08/11/2018 20:58

I do always have and I wash my underwear every day...

MrMeSeeks · 08/11/2018 20:58

Ridiculous. Of course most people don't wear them every day. I never wear them and am not a manky minge lol She can speak for herself because obviously if she has to wear them every day she has some sort of yeast infection lol
Yes your comment is ridiculous Hmm

seventhgonickname · 08/11/2018 21:01

I have not until recently had to wear oanty liners.I am almost menopausal but HRT which otherwise fantastic has caused unpredictable bleeding, sometimes heavy and no warning.I mostly use them at work as I am not in a job where I can attend to myself immediately.
Yes they give me thrush.
Have only ever used them in the past after early morning sex! Those were the days and I refuse to feel guilty about it.

MrMeSeeks · 08/11/2018 21:01

This thread is pathetic.
Women being shamed, insulted, and told they don’t know their own body Hmm

If you don’t need to wear one everyday think yourself lucky.
Just because people wear one does NOT mean they do not wash and change their clothes everyday.
No, we don’t thrush.
I even buy the scented ones Smile

MrMeSeeks · 08/11/2018 21:07

Huh? Who said people who wear panty liners are smelly and don't wash?? You are making that up.

No, because no-one has insinuated that ( through the whole thread)

ConorMcGregorsChin · 08/11/2018 21:09

Some people have had the need in life to wear panty liners since puberty. I've worn them in pregnancy. During breastfeeding. And now, just a few years after having my one and only child, I feel fresher wearing one now. Everyone is different but no need for judgement.
