AIBU to not wear panty liners every day?

Tbh this is a complete new one for me. Was having a conversation with a friend yesterday who wears panty liners every day and has done since she was 15. I’d never heard of this before and told her so. She told me I was a manky minge Grin and that everybody wore them. Is this true? Thoughts please ....

I have an acid dripping manky minge who knew :) btw as one who has had relationships with other owners of marvellous minges ... A dry vagina is never a good thing ;)

I don't, only for end of period, occasionally after sex. I use reusable washable ones too, so much nicer than plasticky ones. Each to their own though

Purplealienpuke · 08/11/2018 17:58

I have LS & bladder issues so have to wear something even though nothing would be better for the LS 🙄.
Bodyform don't seem to be perfumed (for those with LS or sensitive issues). Until I get some surgery (maybe never) I'll have to continue using protection.
I wouldn't find it odd that people choose to with medical reasons, each to their own, but it doesn't make those who don't dirty in any way!

Purplealienpuke · 08/11/2018 17:59

That should say without medical reasons 🙄

Lionsandtiger · 08/11/2018 17:59

No, I don't use them either. Waste of time, money and bad for the environment. I was my knickers and clothes, that's sufficient.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 08/11/2018 17:59

that’s exactly what I thought! If you need to wear a panty liner everyday for years on end you’ve probably got a long term yeast infection!

How many women have said they have been checked out and are absolutely fine? Lots! RTFT

Stop shaming women for CHOOSING to wear liners!

SinisterBumFacedCat · 08/11/2018 18:02

I think a lot of liner wearers probably trim/shave their pubes to nothing, that always made me feel like my discharge/groin sweat was like sitting in a cold slimy puddle. A decent bush wicks moisture away.

Not in my case, bush still intact as it was when this all started at puberty.

ProfessorMoody · 08/11/2018 18:02

Still so many people not reading the thread. Awful.

flowerpothead · 08/11/2018 18:03

Vaginas are mildly acidic, like your stomach, as a barrier to bacteria. Bleach is alkaline so no idea how the bleaching works! I’ve had to wear a daily liner since having the copper coil, think my body is trying to expel it! These are great washables and available in other sizes too. www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B06ZYG8CNC?psc=1&ref=yo_pop_mb_pd_title&th=1&tag=mumsnetforum-21

Stuckforthefirstime ......
Where on earth can you buy washable liners? 😳
Have to say, I do wear them as I need to due to a medical issue but would love not to have to! I may buy the washable liners 👍🏻

Ravenesque · 08/11/2018 18:12

I'm old enough to remember when panty liners became a "thing". Thankfully I was also old enough - just - to realise that they were just another way to tell women that they were dirty and needed yet another product to make them not dirty.

pickingdaisies · 08/11/2018 18:14

Waitrose sells unperfumed biodegradable ones. Not individually wrapped because, well, plastic. Don't remember the name, sorry.

svalentine60 · 08/11/2018 18:16

Ridiculous. Of course most people don't wear them every day. I never wear them and am not a manky minge lol She can speak for herself because obviously if she has to wear them every day she has some sort of yeast infection lol

Fishcakey · 08/11/2018 18:19

I wear them so my trousers last all week! I would feel like I needed to have clean ones at least every other day if I didn't.

Fishcakey · 08/11/2018 18:20

And I have no infections, nor do I piss myself every five minutes!!!!!

IcedPurple · 08/11/2018 18:21

Does anyone remember that 'untouched' photo of Cindy Crawford that came out a few years ago? The thing I remember most is that you could clearly see the outline of her pantyliner under her bikini knickers!

Yuck!

Frokni · 08/11/2018 18:21

I wear them 90% of the time. Minge not manky just suffered with horrific unpredictable periods since i was 10- been wearing daily since about 25. Am 31 and on injection, so no monthlies but it's a hard habit to break for me.

SevenStones · 08/11/2018 18:23

No wonder we have a huge environmental problem.

Bea2010 · 08/11/2018 18:25

I wish I didn’t need to but my pelvic floor is non existent thanks to DD & DS. I think your friend has some weird ideas and should keep them to herself. Also the name manky minge .... 😂

panchase · 08/11/2018 18:25

What really irked me was when dd1 came back from PHSEE lesson on puberty a couple of years ago with a big questionnaire/ brochure sponsored by either Always or Bodyform which kept saying things like ‘You can choose to use a tampon or sanitary towel when you’ve got your period, and for every other day a panty liner will keep you fresh’ . They have their uses of course but the implication for these girls was 1) it was the norm 2) Staying ‘fresh’ could only be done by using a pantyliner . Stealth marketing on insecurities. Grrr

ilovechocolate07 · 08/11/2018 18:26

I wear one every day. I need to or I'd have to change my underwear a few times a day. I have reusable and disposable. It's very judgemental for people to say a blanket 'nobody needs one every day'. Good for you if you don't. I'll be glad for my daughter if she doesn't need one every day when she grows up.

3daughtersgood · 08/11/2018 18:28

underpants are clothes liners

Aria2015 · 08/11/2018 18:29

I do. I've had to since I had the copper coil fitted as I seem to produce more discharge (sorry tmi). I spoke to my doctor about it and I haven't for an infection, it just seems to be a side effect for me. Before I had it fitted I didn't need then.

jessebuni · 08/11/2018 18:30

I’ve never heard of this. I hate liners I use a cup for that time of the month and just change my under around ovulation time if there is excess lubrication down there though usually it’s fine. I actually feel terribly itchy and sweaty when I wear liners. I mean I just if you have a real excess of fluid then maybe liners are required but anyone in the more average zone of vaginal lubrication surely doesn’t require them every day?

HoustonBess · 08/11/2018 18:33

Having plastic against your fanny is gross. Washable ones are ok.
