AIBU to not wear panty liners every day?

Tbh this is a complete new one for me. Was having a conversation with a friend yesterday who wears panty liners every day and has done since she was 15. I’d never heard of this before and told her so. She told me I was a manky minge Grin and that everybody wore them. Is this true? Thoughts please ....

Nah, chemicals every day aren't good for you. I only do if I've got a date much later that day and won't have time to change/shower- keeps the knickers clean!

ohreallyohreallyoh · 07/11/2018 20:09

they are not brought up with the notion that they have to be sweet and fragrant at all times!

So you would be happy for your waiter to smell? Or your male health care professional? Or your social worker? Accountant? TA? You’d be happy sharing an office with someone who smells of wee?

WhiteDust · 07/11/2018 20:10

Everyone saying "I just change my knickers every day" SO DO PEOPLE WHO WEAR PANTY LINERS

This.

Many, many posts later and some people are still not getting it...

WOMEN WHO WEAR PANTY LINERS ALSO CHANGE THEIR KNICKERS EVERY DAY!

Redboxonwheels · 07/11/2018 20:10

What catsmother said.

Obviously there’s a massive market for liners, or they wouldnt be on sale.

No one is twisting our arms! If you don’t feel the need, then simply don’t buy them. It’s not compulsory.

But many women do buy them to feel more confident on a daily basis due to how their individual bodies work.

There’s no right or wrong here. Live and let live.

ittakes2 · 07/11/2018 20:13

I tried that and got itchy. All those chemicals against your skin everyday can't be great for you.

UpstartCrow · 07/11/2018 20:15

Devillanelle and all the other landfill worriers;
Not everywhere uses landfill. (No our waste does not end up in the sea either.)

Buggerbrexit · 07/11/2018 20:17

I can’t believe how many women on here are smug about not using panty liners.

Some women do, others don’t. Sometimes I randomly bleed, sometimes I don’t and I don’t much like it soaking through thanks very much.

Stop being so bloody judgemental, it’s completely unnecessary. I didn’t realise it was possible to virtue signal over fanny pads.

I'm a gusset bleacher (& always wear plain black cotton knickers) so periodically relegate tatty looking pants to the 'scruffs' drawer for wear in bed along with a tshirt. It was the 'period pants' drawer but I'm now post menopausal.

I do have a clean pair of pants in an inner pocket of every bag I own - I'm fine all day but if I'm going out after work I like to change them. Worn pair goes in the bag of 'grubby stuff I need to take home at first opportunity' along with lunchbox, gym clothes, tatty trainers from walking in etc - I just wrap up any sweaty or dirty items. Bag is a rucksack in the storage cupboard of my office.

On occasion I've had more discharge than usual - pregnancy mostly - can recommend a supply of pound shop tea towels cut into quarters, folded into thirds, & taken home to wash.

& yep, I was a washable nappies & sanpro type too. Just not a fan of mixing perfectly natural gunk, various, with plastic in landfills.

But each to their own.

There could be a man behind this post wanking off for all we know

Doesn't bother me! We'll never know if there are perverts getting off on the thought of panty liners so what I don't know, I don't care about 😉

visitorthedog · 07/11/2018 20:19

Wow, I can’t say I often get surprised by things on here but this is embarrassing for the posters who just can’t believe that other women’s bodies are different to theirs!

I have a full two weeks of the month where I would soak through trousers with discharge. There’s nothing wrong with me. The ‘ewww’ comments are embarrassing for the posters writing them. We’re all different, not Barbie dolls with perfectly smooth behaving vulvas.

It reminds me of the thread where 100’s of (intelligence lacking) posters didn’t believe women have heavy periods.

It definitely feels as though the demographic has changed here hugely over the last year or so. I’m sure that people used to be a bit more knowledgeable or worldly wise?

SilentIsla · 07/11/2018 20:19

It seems to me as if some of you are not as conscious of hygiene and comfort as others. Some have even suggested you may not change your knickers every day. Hmm

Wearing panty liners and changing those regularly throughout the day, in addition to wearing fresh knickers every day is perfectly acceptable.

visitorthedog · 07/11/2018 20:21

Also, I get thrush if I DON’T use them, nothing like wearing soaking underwear to do that.

Buggerbrexit · 07/11/2018 20:23

No, this thread has been rearing it’s head for years - the only difference is we’ve now moved on to concern for the environment which seems new for 2018...

EdWinchester · 07/11/2018 20:24

I have never worn one in my life. Never wear underwear at night either.

Am feeling lucky now about something I had never previously though about.

Queenofthedrivensnow · 07/11/2018 20:24

No but I'm going to start. Discharge upsets me daily. I'd like wasable liners if they exist though

CraftyGin · 07/11/2018 20:25

Depends how old you are. Some of us wear a lot more than panty liners.

DontTouchTheMoustache · 07/11/2018 20:25

I'm so relieved reading the comments that I'm not the only one who wears them every day! My knickers are soaked with discharge within hours otherwise and they get bleached. It's embarrasing so ive never been brave enough to ask other women in real life!

Greystar · 07/11/2018 20:28

I wear washable pads everyday with a fresh pair of knickers each day so no landfill use, I feel much more comfortable this way as like many women I have natural discharge. Washable also feel much nicer than throw away ones i think. Each to their own though

XiCi · 07/11/2018 20:31

imagine going to dtd and you've got a pad on..

Funnily enough most people remove their underwear before having sex. Or did you think that the panty liner is superglued to your fanjo?

TheWiseWomansFear · 07/11/2018 20:31

@MrTrebus a 'few extra bits of pantyliners'? You mean the 21,900 liners and packaging used by a woman who uses one every day for 60 years x the number of the women in the world who do this? That's more than a few bits

ProfessorMoody · 07/11/2018 20:31

There 👏 are 👏 no 👏 chemicals 👏 in 👏 reusable 👏 pads

Athena51 · 07/11/2018 20:31

This is literally the most Judgy McJudgepants thread ever.

Women who wear liners reasonably saying why and being heaped with opprobrium about being afraid of their vulvas or not changing their knickers enough.

And has 'won't someone think of the landfill?' replaced 'won't someone think of the children?'

Christ on a bike Sad

wLuytgNx · 07/11/2018 20:33

DontTouchTheMoustache - I felt the same, so nice to know it's not just me. Smile This post has been useful x

LifeImplosionImminent · 07/11/2018 20:36

The judginess on this post! Shock I hate the feel of damp knickers so wear them every day and shock horror I change my knickers daily too. Put simply, some women have moist twats, some have dry twats, others are just twats.

SingaporeSlinky · 07/11/2018 20:38

All this landfill talk is insulting too. That’s like saying instead of using sanitary towels or tampons, why can’t you just let your knickers soak up the blood and change them 18 times a day. If I need pantyliners I will use them. I recycle as much as I can but this really is besides the point. Unless you can honestly say you don’t put anything in a waste bin and 100% recycle then there’s no need to preach. Just because you don’t need to use pantyliners you really don’t need to bring landfill into it.

And as for the laundry basket, I probably do half the laundry in my household. DH does some and older DC do some, so although I’m sure none of them would have any reason to rifle through the dirty laundry, sometimes just pulling knickers out might expose the stains. Not pleasant for anyone. If I can avoid that by putting a liner in the bin, that’s up to me.
