There is so many threads on mumsnet about how transwomen should not be allowed in womens bathrooms because of the threat of attack ect. KNow I have someone very close in my family who is transgender (FTM) they pass as a man easily, so when these threads come up i always relate them to him, if he was to walk into a womens bathroom people would think it was extremly wrong, but thats what people are suggesting because hes chromosones say hes a women. I do understand the argument of a transwomen who dosent pass as a women atall to no use the womens toliets, but it seems to me that people seem to think that evrey transwomen wont pass. SO attached i have a picture of a youtuber who is trans, would you really see her be put in a mens toliets, that wouls surely plass her in a lot of danger.
Or do you think she should still use the mens. I'm genuilly intrested. Ive name changed recently and done another thread on a simal topic that got no replies. I just want to see were your argument lies

Exactly. If men aren't a threat then there's no issue in them using the toilets for their own biological sex.

There are permanent signs on all the toilets I’ve been in saying a male attendant may be cleaning the toilet. They don’t quickly put them up and nip in for 2 minutes - not sure how you’d manage to clean dozens of loos in that time.
Therefore a biological male, identifying as male could potentially be in there at any time. Also any biological male who is trans but passes as female would be able to enter at any time as chromosome testing doesn’t routinely take place before someone is allowed to use a public toilet.
Women’s toilets aren’t only occupied by biological women and there is no way that such a rule could be enforced.

It would be much more sensible to be vigilant that a public toilet isn’t a safe space imo. It is a space where you can easily be cornered and attacked by someone of either sex.

So let's remove all the safeguards and be done with it?

I don’t see many threads on here complaining about male toilet attendants. Yet hundreds about the risk of trans people in women’s toilets - funny that. I suppose male attendants invading women’s space isn’t feminist issue either?

No. Because with self ID it will be impossible to challenge anyone who shouldn't be in the woman's toilets. I'm not throwing safeguarding out of the window to please males. Absolutely not.

Let's face facts, most of us don't notice people in toilets.

I might notice a big hairy man if he came into a public toilet, eg in supermarket. I daresay a slim, beautiful looking young girl would be noticed in a women's toilet.

Yet these things pass quickly.

Bigger problems are such as communal toilets and changing rooms in shops/baths/schools.

Because I am. Men have a different shape, a different smell, a different way of moving, whatever they are wearing. We may be too polite to mention it. But we know.

She should, could and i’m Sure does use the women’s toilets and I don’t give a damn about what she has in her knickers. Butni’m Not obsessed with the genitalia of trans women like some people on Mumsnet. I’m pretty sure that she’s managed not to sexually assault anyone either while using the loos. In a gay club or bar or space she’d be free and safe to use either toilets. But it’s not like that out in the rest of the world for trans men and women.

But what is the point of male and female toilets in the first place if not for womens' and girls' safety and dignity?

I am very GC but is see the toilet argument as a total red herring. Toilets don't bother me but I know they do others who are GC. Nevertheless it's the thin end of the wedge for me.

The questions for me are:
Would I be happy to share a gym changing room with this person?
Would I be happy to shower in my Yoga studio's communal shower with this person?
Would I be happy for this person to take a role designated for women?
Would I happy to compete against this person in my chosen physical sport?
Would I be happy for this person to perform my bikini wax?

The answer to all of these is No.

It's not really a red herring, it's the argument brought down to it's most basic level, sex segregation exists for a reason.

I probably wouldn't notice, but if I knew she had a penis and was in the women's loo I'd assume she was a fetishist.

She's a woman. So she should use the women's loos.

Bumsex the point of women fighting for sex segregated toilets was to improve our safety out in public. We’re not giving that up easily.
The point of permanent signs is so women can give informed consent. If toilets are now mixed sex, we should be informed of that also, instead of the majority of women still being under the delusion that we are entitled to a safer private space in public.
