I leave the house at 5am taking along hard-boiled eggs. They are nice and fill me up for a bit but cheese on toast? Now we're talking!

PeridotCricket · 04/11/2018 07:58

It’s an ace breakfast.

Agree with poster who said Japanese breakfast is the best. Picked veg, rice, miso soup, fried egg.

hamzilla · 04/11/2018 07:58

With marmite on it to make it extra breakfasty

Loonoon · 04/11/2018 07:58

I’ve never thought of it for breakfast but now the OP has suggested it I’m in. With homemade chilli jam. Yum.

MinecraftHolmes · 04/11/2018 07:59

Better for you than 95% of the cereal aisle.

CartwheelCath · 04/11/2018 08:02

I had a hankering for cheese on toast the other day, never considered it for breakfast before.
Quite fancy it as a nice Sunday morning breakfast.
I'm baffled as to why it wouldn't be a good breakfast?

SoyDora · 04/11/2018 08:03

It’s fine, why wouldn’t it be?

silkpyjamasallday · 04/11/2018 08:04

Dd and I love cheese on toast for breakfast, mature cheddar on seedy bread, accompanied by some baby plum tomatoes and it's perfection on a cold morning. Much better than sugary cereal imo, I think a breakfast with protein and then some fruit is the best way to set yourself up for the day.

ineedwine99 · 04/11/2018 08:04

Now enjoying my cheese on toast thanks to this thread

ChocolateTearDrops · 04/11/2018 08:07

Cheese on toast is my go-to breakfast, snack, lunch, CBA-to-cook-dinner - it just works.

Hippywannabe · 04/11/2018 08:09

Cheese and bread is quite normal in Europe isn't it? I do see lots of Germans eating that with cold meats when on holiday.
Sounds fab to me but then, I don't like the taste of milk and find the taste of most cereals too sweet

Alondra · 04/11/2018 08:10

It's a good breakfast but can be perfect if it's on wholemeal toast, a few slices of fresh tomato and a splash of extra virgen olive oil.

CBA2RTFT · 04/11/2018 08:11

Just got up and read this thread... now I want cheese on toast for breakfast! I think the consensus is that YABU, OP, sorry.

Strange you should pick on cheese on toast rather than, say coco pops or some sugary crap.

Ansumpasty · 04/11/2018 08:14

YABU!
Plain old cheddar on toast- good

Cheese on toast with Lea & Perrins- good

Cheese on toast with sliced tomatoes-good

Cheese on toast with sliced cucumber- good

Cheese on toast with poached eggs- best

Cheese on toast with ham- good

Yeah, YABU

adaline · 04/11/2018 08:14

There's nothing wrong with it. Probably healthier than cereal and more filling than honey/jam/Nutella on toast too.

What makes you think it's not acceptable?

But I don't understand limiting yourself to certain foods at certain meals. If cheese on toast is acceptable for lunch, why is it wrong to have it for breakfast? It doesn't become unhealthy just because it's eaten at 7am and not 1pm!

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 04/11/2018 08:14

I was planning scrambled eggs on toast for breakfast this morning...now I'm having scrambled eggs on cheese on toast

bumblebee39 · 04/11/2018 08:19

Ooh this is making me hungry

YABU

SingaSong12 · 04/11/2018 08:19

I often have cheese (unmelted) on top of toast for breakfast. Now you've mentioned it think I may try it melted.

mathanxiety · 04/11/2018 08:21

I have cheese and a toasted whole wheat bagel with a big bunch of spinach leaves every morning. I don't feel hungry again until well after 2.

When I was a child my favourite breakfast was a sandwich consisting of toast, butter, four fish fingers and a squirt of lemon juice. Delicious.

LittleBookofCalm · 04/11/2018 08:26

dh has this but then goes back to bed, and consequently feels a bit sick., he was just looking for an alternative and lo! there is a thread about the joys of cheese on toast.
i think it is the sleeping afterwards that does it

Lweji · 04/11/2018 08:46

Is this a reverse?

WhiteDust · 04/11/2018 08:48

This has got me craving a 'continental'/ 'European' (?) hotel breakfast... Mmmm!

To think cheese on toast is not a good breakfast?

Cheese and bread is quite normal in Europe isn't it?

So, also in the UK? Wink

ButchyRestingFace · 04/11/2018 08:49

Is this a reverse?

Well, OP never actually said it was her view. She may be going ten rounds with someone else over the matter and wants MN support. Smile

Bodicea · 04/11/2018 08:50

I seem to remember a study of European breakfasts that said the best breakfast was the German of ham and cheese. Most filling, good for concentration etc.

So you are half way there.
