I had it this morning, but with a bit of a twist: thin apple slices and smoked Gouda.

My personal favourite version of cheese on toast in the very recent past (and when I can have it) is leftover pizza.

Thanks for explaining Seneca. So is there no oil in the griddle pan then?

This will probably start a debate...

Here (well me anyway) make cheese on toast by:

Grill 2 slices bread on one side until toasted, turn over and VERY LIGHTLY not completely toast other side, then add grated cheese and grill until cheese bubbling/toasted

JackSpraggon · 06/11/2018 17:10

Only if it has Worcester Sauce on it.

PurpleDaisies · 06/11/2018 17:10

That’s exactly how I do it graphista.

Dh just toasts bread and puts cheese on it. I’d call that cheese and toast!

No, but you lightly butter the outside of each side of the sandwich so it browns nicely.

A regular breakfast here is toast, in the toaster, butter and marmite, then very thin slices of cheddar on top.

"Dh just toasts bread and puts cheese on it. I’d call that cheese and toast!" No no no the cheese has to be cooked too!

Interesting Seneca I'd class that as fried rather than grilled as the butter would provide the grease for frying.

Breakfast- Slice of white bread, press middle to create a well and crack egg into it. Sprinkle grated cheese round rest of bread and put butter along crusts. Cook under grill or in oven until the egg sets and the cheese in bubbling. It’s best if you can time it so the egg white sets but the yolk is still runny then serve it with brown sauce. 2 Piklets, toasted then sandwiched together with a thick slice of cheese in between. Dinner tomato soup (Heinz) with cheese on toast, cheese on toast with salad cream and tea, white bread toasted, buttered whilst still hot. Layer watsits on top. Then pour over warm spaghetti or baked beans or whatever you prefer and top with grated cheese. Zap in microwave until the cheese melts. Sounds vile but it’s really really nice

The ideal cheese on toast is made with leftover cheese fondue, yum!

Leapfrog44 · 08/11/2018 13:00

why is it not good?? You need proper bread, not the shit from the supermarket which is not actually bread at all, and decent cheese.

It's a perfect breakfast and the thought is making me hungry.
