Mmr and links to austim

Do you think there’s a link with mmr and austim, I’ve already 3 children with austim so not sure about my baby having it

OP posts:
tiggerkid · 03/11/2018 14:01

The doc, who linked MMR to all kinds of consequences, has been completely discredited because apparently his research was based on conclusions from just 12 cases and even those were not researched thoroughly.

RunningFeisty · 03/11/2018 14:04

That Dr Wakefield has a hell of a lot to answer for Angry

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 03/11/2018 14:05

The cases were all children with bowel issues iirc

ShalomJackie · 03/11/2018 14:06

It really saddens me that there are still people out there who give credence to this lie!

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 03/11/2018 14:07

Tbh though the lancet also has a case to answer as they published such shoddy research. Whoever said okay to that needs a slap too.

mumsastudent · 03/11/2018 14:07

ps (apparent) increase in diagnosis has more links to: Adults being diagnosed later in life (Autism Act 2010) information networks (Bearman & KIng 2010 & follow ups with other researchers) in this sociological/geographic based research their original intent to to try to understand why there seemed to be cusps of diagnosis. What they found in interviewing people that it had nothing to do with the length of time/area in that sense but the information passed parent to parent of doctors that had understanding/expertise in diagnosis. Its worth reading. there was other research in other countries that also compliments these findings (Netherlands etc)

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 03/11/2018 14:08

As well as the fact the fact it took twelve years to retract that. In that time ppl died of diseases the MMR would have saved them from.

selfidentifyinggiraffe · 03/11/2018 14:12

I absolutely thoroughly do NOT believe that MMR causes autism

I think the MMR is probably now one of the MOST studied vaccines

I do however think there may be a tiny subset of children with autism who have an inability to process/detox things in the same way as others which is why they find huge levels of this or that in their system

And in that tiny subset perhaps a vaccine is the trigger

But if you're that vulnerable I think if it wasn't a vaccine... some other illness or pathogen would be the trigger and it's unavoidable - they will have autism, vaccine triggering it or some other environmental source in the first few years of life

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 03/11/2018 14:14

Like PANDAS?

Want2bSupermum · 03/11/2018 14:15

Please vaccinate your child.

I have 2DC with ASD. They havent had the genetic testing but I believe, based on the profile of the other DC in our area which is a very international area here just outside of NYC, that there is a link between Mediterranean populations and autism. Everyone has a link back to Spain, Italy or Greece. It's insane how the cases are so concentrated. DH has a theory that in some cases it's a by product of generations of cousins having kiddies which makes more sense to me.

We are in a study which has found a positive link between tetra chemicals in the drinking water and autism. I think the researchers are onto something. Scarily it's not drinking the water but long hot showers and baths which cause the pollutant to be ingested. Of course when pregnant I had a fair few long hot showers and baths.

But please GET THE VACCINE.

SpottingTheZebras · 03/11/2018 14:16

Almost always signs of autism are missed or not definite enough until well after the age of 1 and since the vaccination is given at 12 months, it is easy to put the blame on it. MMRV doesn’t cause autism either, despite many other countries having that as part of their vaccination schedule instead of MMR.

Yabbers · 03/11/2018 14:16

I too know someone who paid for separate vaccinations for their child because of this nonsense

This particular part of the whole debacle was classic. Wakefield never once mentioned single vaccines. That particular gem was introduced into the debate by a private medical company, you know, one of those who would profit handsomely from people who chose single vaccines and voila, all of a sudden there was a way those lovely middle class people could avoid all that nasty stuff and come to them, for a fee, to protect their children.😆

Cookit · 03/11/2018 14:17

Andrew Wakefield should be in prison.

Oh but can you imagine the “debate” that would cause? I’m sure vaccination rates would go down even more. People would treat him like a martyr, locked away for yelling the truth.

mumsastudent · 03/11/2018 14:18

tomorrow he lied about this/& his financial support/connections - but I agree it was worrying - trying to disprove & uncover what he had done …. I feel very strongly about this issue & have read a lot more (peer reviewed) research - which I wont inflict on you! But I will challenge & inform on this where ever I see it!

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 03/11/2018 14:19

Perhaps under the rock he came out from then....

selfidentifyinggiraffe · 03/11/2018 14:20

Actually we had single measles vaccine, single mumps vaccine and single rubella vaccine- we were using them on the NHS

A private company decided to offer them when the NHS withdrew as the GP who ran that private practice was annoyed that the NHS didn't want to let him offer it to parents who were then refusing to vaccinate and he thought vaccinating with singles was a better idea than not vaccinating at all

Fortybingowings · 03/11/2018 14:21

There is no link. NONE.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 03/11/2018 14:22

Tbh we were in the head of the storm of this at the time as my mum was a parent advisor with NAS at the time and it was rough. My son is now on the pathway too and pretty sick of ppl trying to blame this and my sons other SN on me.

mastertomsmum · 03/11/2018 14:23

Focus on what you need to deal with in the here and now and everyday life. There is no link.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 03/11/2018 14:23

The only issues with the singles is that at times the supply of one or more of these has had issues leaving children vulnerable and not just the children waiting to get them.

Catsandbootsandbootsandcats · 03/11/2018 14:25

My second son has autism. He was diagnosed at the height of the MMR scare. Even though I thought it had nothing to do with the MMR I chose to delay vaccinating my others. One of them has autism, obviously nothing to do with the MMR.

I'm pretty sure it's genetic, as having looked more into it I'm sure I'm also on the spectrum, as well as their being several on their dads side with ASD too.

neveradullmoment99 · 03/11/2018 14:27

All my 3 children have had it. None of them has autism. Zero link. Its been debunked.

1frenchfoodie · 03/11/2018 14:40

No.

selfidentifyinggiraffe · 03/11/2018 14:43

OP you have 3 children with autism. There's a significant chance baby will also have autism

Giving the MMR won't change that, nor will not giving the MMR

Enjoy your children, seems like there's a pretty clear picture that autism is genetic in your family x

rainbowquack · 03/11/2018 14:51

0% link. One of my four has ASD. I also believe it's genetical.
