Mmr and links to austim

Do you think there’s a link with mmr and austim, I’ve already 3 children with austim so not sure about my baby having it

OP posts:
OftenHangry · 03/11/2018 18:53

God! Luckily people weren't this stubborn and selfish in case of smallpox vaccinesHmm

I am going to be blunt here and say that "not my problem, it will be their responsibility to vaccinate themselves when they are old enough" is indeed the shittiest parenting I have ever encoutered....

Pebblespony · 03/11/2018 18:53

My mother contracted rubella at 13 and it severely damaged her hearing. She missed loads of school and had to have multiple operations on her ears.

Jemimapuddleduk · 03/11/2018 18:56

No link whatsoever. I say this as a mother of a ds who is autistic and has had his baby MMR vaccinations TWICE. He was born autistic and will always be autistic. He was diagnosed with Acute myeloid leukaemia at the age of 16 months and the intense chemo regime to cure this aggressive blood cancer wiped out all his baby immunisations. There was a period of time where he was immunocompromised and measles would have killed him. After he finished chemo and a 6 month hospital stay there was a wait of around 6 months whilst he recovered before he could be revaccinated. The day he could be vaccinated couldn’t come quick enough, during that time he relied on HERD IMMUNITY to protect him. Even though in remission and nearly back to full health measles would have been very dangerous. I worried at baby groups/nursery about parents like Grabbit who were too selfish to vaccinate their children and put the weak and ill at risk.

MrBirlingsAwfulWife · 03/11/2018 18:56

It's not a philosophical debate grabbit

Your decision ultimately affects others.

You haven't even had the decency to acknowledge how your children have benefited from the herd immunity.

Sashkin · 03/11/2018 18:57

I would never engage with a troll as blatant as the OP. But I hope that if there are any mothers of toddlers who are on the fence, or who have read biased rubbish about how “harmless” these illnesses are, providing some basic facts and links to more reputable resources might counteract some of that.

Nobody is saying that vaccine reactions do not exist. But they are extremely rare. Far rarer than the rate of complications with measles or mumps or rubella, all of which killed in far higher numbers before we introduced MMR than the vaccine harms now.

As a PP said, very few would turn down antibiotics if their child had an infection, despite the much higher incidence of serious drug reactions with most common antibiotics than there is with the MMR. It baffles me.

selfidentifyinggiraffe · 03/11/2018 18:57

@grabbit you do know that some infections can trigger epilepsy???

Vaccinating is designed to prevent the tragic effects of infectious disease

It's not a way to disable children by a corrupt government, despite what you may have read on sites by people who's tragedies have been exploited by people who like a conspiracy theory

I think that gets lost when people say they worry about vaccine damage - the severe consequences that can occur from the disease anyhow and is far more likely

Threads like this make me so angry.

The obsessional nature of some people with ASD is definitely a benefit and has been a benefit for us through time as has ADhD.

selfidentifyinggiraffe · 03/11/2018 19:06

I know what grabbit is getting at, there are some people severely disabled and the ones who benefit society with their way of thinking aren't who she means

What she isn't getting is that severe disability is FAR more likely to happen to her children by NOT vaccinating them than them catching an infectious disease or spreading it

Even many of the treatments if they did catch an infectious disease carry far greater risk of severe disability than the vaccines aimed at preventing this

grabbit i would love a response to my post upthread.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 03/11/2018 19:14

Tbh my brother has quite severe LD and ASD but it is still a benefit to society in my eyes. I hate that people think that somehow he isn’t worth anything and really think that these people are the ones we need to eradicate from the gene pool.

TheDowagerCuntess · 03/11/2018 19:19

@grabbit - maybe you can answer my question.

How does injection of a physical substance (vaccine) cause a behavioural issue? How does it impact on their actual personality?

What is the link?

MrBirlingsAwfulWife · 03/11/2018 19:22

I know what grabbit is getting at, there are some people severely disabled and the ones who benefit society with their way of thinking aren't who she means

Do please let me know what is the particular index of 'benefit to society' that you and grabbit are using selfidentifyinggiraffe.

FFS!!!!

greendale17 · 03/11/2018 19:24

No link.

My friends little one has Autism and didn’t have the MMR jab

StuntNun · 03/11/2018 19:24

I couldn't be vaccinated as a child due to egg allergy and ended up contracting a mild case of measles. I'm now deaf in one ear as a result. Needless to say all my children got the MMR. My oldest has autism and says even if the MMR did cause autism (which of course it has been proven not to) he would rather be alive with autism than dead of measles.

MrBirlingsAwfulWife · 03/11/2018 19:24

I've just invented a scale to measure how people 'benefit society' and people who don't vaccinate their children score extremely low on it. HTH

selfidentifyinggiraffe · 03/11/2018 19:25

I'm not... if you read the rest of my post

I do however have a severely disabled family member and their life isn't a walk in the park, they cost the NHS a lot of money and it's very sad. However I have never suggested I would prefer them dead. They provide a huge benefit to me... they are not however the people with ASD who are progressing our society with amazing insights. They simply aren't able to communicate to be able to do that

redexpat · 03/11/2018 19:27

Ds was showing signs before he had the vaccine. And you know what, even if there was a link I'd much rather have a WONDERFUL child with asd who is alive than a dead one without.

PurpleDaisies · 03/11/2018 19:27

How does injection of a physical substance (vaccine) cause a behavioural issue? How does it impact on their actual personality?

Unfortunately, anything which can cause brain damage can cause personality changes.

mybumpismostlypudding · 03/11/2018 19:31

Also, mumps is horrific, I've had it and I was really poorly. Definitely not worth the risk!

MrBirlingsAwfulWife · 03/11/2018 19:35

But you have just demonstrated that you do have a scale in your head, selfidentifyinggiraffe : severely disabled, non-comunicator at one end and those who are progressing our society with amazing insights at the other.

selfidentifyinggiraffe · 03/11/2018 19:40

@MrBirlingsAwfulWife I have phrased it badly then as what I was trying to point out is that despite well meaning posters pointing out how good people with ASD are at improving our world with their fabulous ways of thinking... what she's meaning when she talks about autism is those as severely disabled as Robert Fletcher who is still at the developmental age of a toddler despite being an adult

And then trying to point out to her that vaccines prevent people suffering severe disability more than they cause them to be severely disabled.

Sorry

rainbowquack · 03/11/2018 19:43

I knew what you meant @selfidentifyinggiraffe , and the point you were trying to make is a great one.
