I started a new job 3 weeks ago. And today is payday. But ive not been paid. All my direct debits are due to come out tomorrow and ive not got enough money in to cover them should i of expected today to be paid if i started work 3 weeks ago? My manager is on holiday with her family. So feel awful messaging her but cant go without money.

Yes, likewise, wait until after 9. Then if there is a problem try HR or finance first if your company has them?

Unless it’s a tiny company you probably need to speak to HR/Payroll department? Have you called your bank to check if there are any payments pending?

I would still raise this. I've had many jobs and have always been paid at midnight.
He won't think you're moaning, you have bills to pay, everyone does

No, not phoned my bank. I will wait until after 9. I work in a private day nursery and wouldn't know who to contact other than manager.

Erm no why would you message your manager when she’s on holiday. What do you expect them to do? Surely your company has a payroll or hr depart or your manager has someone covering for them. Why would you not contact them first? Did it say anything in your contract or covering letter about your first pay. Check all these things first.

I wouldn't expect to be paid necessarily. Dont you wirk a month in hand? What does it say in your contract? You might be entitled to sone wages but I doubt you'll get it all.

If she has done it as a fast payment it can go in anytime from midnight to 9am that day. My husband's wages are the same. hope it shows soon.

Just saw your update if your working today then wait until you go in and ask another colleague if they know but if it’s a small business and your manager is the owner and runs the finance etc then yes you’ll have to Contact them.

Are you paid a salary, or for the hours you work?

I ask because if you are paid for hours, then often you get paid based on the hours up till 10th or 14th or other date of the previous month, to give payroll time to calculate it. In one place I worked, people got paid for September at the end of October.

I do the wages at my company and its all manual. If pay day is on one of my work days I process it when I get to work so it wouldn't be in the bank until mid morning. If it's on one of my days off (I'm part time) I set it up the day before and I think it goes in by 9 on pay day. Could be the case with yours if it's manual..

Depending on the cut off for payroll I'd expect maybe 1-2 weeks pay. Working 7 weeks in hand is far too long you need something to cover you

As a nursery manager I say don’t message her on holiday!
Ask whoever is standing in for her
Nursery management is really stressful and it’s hard to switch off
There is nothing your manager can do that can’t be done by her deputy

Sometimes our wages don’t go in at midnight, it takes a few hours for it to show up
Just keep checking and then speak to the other staff
Please don’t bother your manager on holiday

One of the staff said we get paid the last working day of the month if it falls on a week day if not it will be the week day closest to the last day of the month. I only work term time so not working this week but will call into work in a few hours and see if anyone there can help me if ive not been payed by then. Thanks everyone.

Message your manager - this is exactly the kind of emergency that managers would expect to be told about.

One of your first responsibilities as a company is to get staff pay correct. Do not feel at all embarrassed about raising this.

Some jobs pay their staff half way through the day etc. You could be paid any time between now and midnight tonight. I would wait until tomorrow to raise it if you've not been paid by then

Report
LittleBookofCalm · 31/10/2018 06:52

you could wait until 2 since the bank will want money in by 2.30? that way you can stall the bank?

Report
countrybunny · 31/10/2018 06:53

Also, most places make you work a month in hand so are you sure you are due to relieve any wages today?

Both my student sons worked for small businesses over the summer, they were paid at various times through the day on pay day as the Manager did it all manually on the day. I would leave it a few hours and see if it comes in, Do you not have a contract with details of how wages are paid?

Report
burnoutbabe · 31/10/2018 06:55

I would check with other staff how the payment is made. Bacs would process overnight whilst a faster payment could arrive any time today.

That must be very frustrating for the staff there, not knowing what time their pay is coming

Why dont you set it in advance every time?
