Every time we have the misfortune to be invited to someone’s birthday/leaving do etc at F&Bs, we marvel afterwards at what they’ve managed to ruin.

How the feck do you make a margherita pizza badly, when a large part of your culinarily repertoire is pizzas?

And spaghetti Neapolitan? Huge chunks of raw garlic, pre made passata and spaghetti. It was about £12, and inedible because of the garlic and the fact that they appeared to have forgotten to warm the passata.

How??

BentNeckLady · 27/10/2018 18:48

Every meal I’ve ever rated in a Chiquitos has been disgusting. Chiquitos would have to pay me to eat in there again 🤮

CathKidneyston · 27/10/2018 18:50

Can’t believe how many people pay for crap service and food. I will complain nicely..give them chance to rectify ..but if they don’t , I pay for what I’m happy to ( eg my starters but if my main course is the problem then I don’t pay fir it) and get up and leave. And never go back.

vampirethriller · 27/10/2018 18:51

A café local to my dad has recently turned into a bistro. Last week it took an hour and a half to get 2 sausage with mash, one pork loin and a burger- the veg never turned up, the loin was a chop, the sausages were little value type things with lumps of powder in the mash and the burger was between slices of bread. Father is a grin and bear it though so we didn't even complain!!

YouTheCat · 27/10/2018 18:51

The Frankie and Benny's in Eldon Square in Newcastle is shite. The kitchen is downstairs so the staff can't see when stuff is ready. The one on Northumberland Road is better. I prefer Chiquito's if I'm going for a chain place.

Konoha · 27/10/2018 18:51

BentNeckLady ahhh Chiquitos! I forgot about them. Ive had better ready meals!

We went to a dire restaurant in France where it was just like sitting in someone’s front room. I had asparagus soup which was the Knorr packet stuff and DH had a pizza with raw kidneys on it. Boak.

Frankie and Benny’s is also dismal. Also these “world buffet” places are invariably rank.

UnnecessaryFennel · 27/10/2018 18:53

Frankie and Benny's, Cosmos, Harvester, etc all always absolutely fucking rank with appalling service. However I do have a soft spot for my local Toby Carvery which is always heaving and their pigs in blankets are spot-on.

However, most recent shocking meal was Homeslice in Covent Garden. Jesus. Get there, told that there's a 45-minute wait for a table, Give them our phone number, retire to nearby bar. Wait 90 mins before phone call arrives. Finally get to table, crammed in by the loo, friend has to get out of his seat every time someone needs to open the door to the toilets because there's no space. Pizza menu has cool/alternative/hipster delights such as 'pulled beef with carrot and celery'. Order vast, cold, soggy pizzas with revolting random toppings. Spend entire meal with the elbows of the man at the table next door actually in my food due to lack of space.

Eat one slice due to revoltingness of toppings.

Leave.

Moral of story: never allow twenty-something millenials to choose the restaurant Grin

YearOfYouRemember · 27/10/2018 18:55

Harvester. Kent. Mushroom risotto. Smallest pieces of tasteless mushrooms ever. Apparently it's sent in like that…

BakedBeans47 · 27/10/2018 18:56

Oh and the harvester in Portsmouth with completely cremated meat and chicken, and the piece de resistance my white wine served in a brandy glass

BakedBeans47 · 27/10/2018 18:57

Oh hungry horse is really shite as well. Sadly my children love it

Sugarformyhoney · 27/10/2018 18:58

Never had a good meal in any Frankie and Bennys or a harvester 🤮 Ate at a local cafe with a friend the other day and it was like going back to 1985-never again.

GoatWithACoat · 27/10/2018 19:00

The Harvester in Enfield on the A10. They were so unprepared for customers an hour after they opened it was embarrassing. No coffee cups out, no teaspoons, the first sausages came out and were burnt on the outside and raw in the middle, we sent them back and asked for something else. Nobody could find us any cutlery. Some disgusting slimy bacon and more burnt sausages came out. We just looked at the sad little breakfast with no cutlery, no napkins, no spoons and staff that clearly couldn’t give shit and got up and left.

Wetwashing00 · 27/10/2018 19:03

Jamie’s Italian!
Some beef & mash dish that was so watery and sloppy my OH asked for a straw.

GoatWithACoat · 27/10/2018 19:04

Oh and Frankie and Bennys in Chichester. Some seriously bland disgusting food with some hot spots and freezing cold bits in the same dish. i.e badly microwaved.

Uniquack · 27/10/2018 19:07

There's a restaurant in Clacton on Sea. We'd never been so I decided to take the DC there for lunch. I though it was odd the place was empty, 'till we sat down. The chairs were sticky, the tablecloth (plastic) was filthy and sticky, the cutlery was filthy. And it's not like they were run off their feet! The DC and I looked at each other, stood up and walked out. Ugh. I can't imagine what the kitchen must've looked like.

Also in Clacton on Sea - a pub restaurant. We ordered the 'thick, hearty beef stew' from the menu. What arrived was a watery gravy with a few pieces of carrot floating around in it. I sent it back and left. Never again.

TitzillatheHun · 27/10/2018 19:07

@CookingGood, I used to live down the road from the Severn & Wye Smokery, and have been since the refurb, as well as eaten fish bought from the fishmonger there - every single time it has made me very ill Envy (categorically not envy)

Cloud 23 in Manchester was dreadful for afternoon tea. There were 4 of us celebrating a special occasion and everything was so horrendously slow - we were there at least an hour before we got any food. We did get 50% off the bill but I'd never go back.

NorthernRunner · 27/10/2018 19:08

Hungry horse by Bantock Park in Wolverhampton is the shittest place I’ve ever eaten.

bluebellation · 27/10/2018 19:08

Both my (now grown up) DDs waitressed at a Hungry Horse as teenagers. I'd never eat in one after their kitchen tales!

legolammb · 27/10/2018 19:12

Cabana at Westfield. We waited ages to order, then the waiter walked off after we'd ordered our starters without letting us order mains. He then proceeded to go outside and have a fag and we couldn't flag anyone else down to order. We ate our starters once they'd arrived and then asked for the bill.

Also the fish restaurant at Cameron House hotel - food was pricey but passable, but the service was spectacularly bad - the waiting staff just gave up and started chatting. No chance of ordering desert. We had to walk up to the staff to pay our bill, which is a bit much when you're paying £100 for 4 drinks, 2 mains and a shared starter.

HereBeFuckery · 27/10/2018 19:13

A pub near Carnforth. We were the only ones made to sit in the icy dining room, and everything had fruit.
As in: black pudding starter? Ideal accompaniment clearly kiwi and satsuma. Roast duck? Obviously with slices of Granny Smith apple and pineapple chunks.
So fucking weird. And DH got the shits and had to go to the outdoor toilet. In February.

scarbados · 27/10/2018 19:14

Hotel in Blackpool - no starters available, my husband's 'cottage pie' was dark grey gloop under a layer of lighter grey gloop, no veg in sight. My ham salad was half a slice of wafer thin ham, two slices of cucumber and half a slice of soggy tomato. We ended up in Maccy's at the bottom of the road despite the fact that I hate Maccy's!

We passed on breakfast and checked out early.

rosettesforjill · 27/10/2018 19:15

I am a BIT of a food snob but I can appreciate a decent fast food (I still fantasise about the absolutely freshly cooked KFC I once had when starving at a service station). However. I have NEVER had a good experience at a Frankie and Benny's - food is just crap and service just as bad.

Sad at the mention of the Shed at Porthgain! We went in 2010 and had some stunning meals there
