The bar of a very rundown hotel in Aberystwyth on the middle of winter. Ordered the “Thai pizza”.

What arrived was a frozen discount supermarket pizza, with tomato sauce, cheese, and pepperoni, topped with those awful tiny little shrimp prawns, and drizzled with... peanut butter Envy Not a satay sauce, but actual greasy peanut butter dolloped on.

sueelleker · 27/10/2018 16:51

An Italian restaurant that used to be in Brighton; My husband's minestrone was basically a bowl of chopped tomatoes, my ham and mushroom pasta had half-inch cubes of tinned ham, and they left my ice-cream sundae sitting on the counter under a heat-lamp; so it was practically soup by the time I got it.

itssquidstella · 27/10/2018 16:52

@Serin I love Dylan's in Criccieth! What was wrong with the Menai Bridge one?

Chalkhillblu3 · 27/10/2018 16:53

Once in a small restaurant on the Isle of Wight ordered some baked dish with chips. The owner said I didn't need chips and should have a salad.

PJBanana · 27/10/2018 16:54

I’ve been to three Jamie’s Italians (one in another fucking country) and they were all diabolical. The worst was the one in Liverpool, a few years ago between Christmas and New Year.

Half the menu wasn’t available, and I’m not over exaggerating. A family member ordered a cheese-based starter and what came out was a tiny bowl, about 2 inches across, literally with some cheese in it. No seasoning, nothing.

Funnily enough, I have had good experiences in all of the Frankie and Benny’s I’ve been to Grin

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 27/10/2018 16:55

It was my local Harvester. It's closed down now. Cold food, dirty plates and cutlery on the salad bar, poor service and didn't have most of what we ordered.

tissuesosoft · 27/10/2018 16:56

Jamie Oliver’s in Guildford- Bleurgh. A Prezzo- carbonara was cold so they took it away to nuke it, the cream curdled and they were annoyed I asked for it to be made fresh

80sMum · 27/10/2018 16:56

Our local Hungry Horse is pretty dire. Weirdly, whenever I go past it, it's full to the rafters. Probably because it sells very cheap booze and you can get two "pub meals" (fish, chips n peas for example) for £8.50.

Whereisthecoffee · 27/10/2018 16:57

I booked into Jamie’s Italian in Liverpool for Valentine’s Day funnily enough saw bad reviews mentioned on here and cancelled

I've disliked nearly every Chinese Restaurant I've ever eaten at. I try not to go to them but everyone else seems to love them!
Bella Italia is pretty dire,
The Indian we had a Centre Parcs was disgusting.
Hands down the worst was the Mash and Barrel at Haven. We had low, low expectations and it was even worse than we imagined.
Filthy floors and tables. There was a shitty nappy on one of them, and a full meal all over the floor of another,
Slooow service, had to wait ages to even order, loads of items on the menu were not available,
Steak Pie when it eventually arrived was burnt had about 2 and a half pieces of steak in and the rest was mushroom I had specifically asked if it had mushroom in and was told no just steak,
Kids pizzas were rock hard and cold.
Waiter spilled my sisters drink all over her and her food and didn't say anything, took her plate away and brought what was seemingly new food however on tasting it he'd just put it on a new plate. It still tasted of gin but tbf that was probably an improvement.
To top it all off the three kids on the neighbouring table actually turned their chairs around to face us put their plates on their laps and just stared while shovelling in food with their hands for the whole time we were there. It was bizarre.

Does a British Airways flight from Hong Kong to Heathrow count? It was many years ago but when they served breakfast, the sausages were undercooked and raw in the middle. When they came round with coffee, it was then that I found my coffee cup had a hairline crack in it, resulting in scalding coffee leaking all over my hand. Spent the rest of the flight nursing a scalded hand and wondering when the food poisoning was going to hit.

Nellyelora · 27/10/2018 17:04

A small hotel in the St James area of London. We booked bed and breakfast. It was quite cheap so we wasn't expecting a gourmet feast but the 'restaurant' was in a dark basement run by two women who could barely speak English. They seemed quite annoyed that we ordered a fry up then asked if we wanted toast which I replied yes to but DP didn't. DP was served a fry up, I was served two slices of bread barely toasted and given an opened half used tub of value margarine. By saying yes to toast I had apparently changed my order Hmm. Anyway by this point DP was fed up (it took ages for the food), his looked awful and undercooked so we just left. Strange place.

Letshopeitsallok · 27/10/2018 17:04

A veggie cafe I used to go to. The food was wonderful, the service terrible. H and I went once and we were the ONLY customers in there and we waited ages for our food. I went to find a waitress to see what was happening and she said “oh sorry I forgot!”

I met one of their cooks at a party once and told him the story and he said, “Don’t take it personally, it happens all the time!”

Anyway it went under. (Unsurprisingly). It was near my work and I would have gone in loads more but it always took so long I didn’t. An hour and a half to order and eat a sandwich!

sossages · 27/10/2018 17:05

The most ridiculous was a restaurant attached to a Premier Inn (so I shouldn't have been surprised) where they served the risotto as a pile of microwave rice with the 'sauce' dribbled over the top. I had no illusions about it being freshly prepared in a place like that, but come on! It should at least look like the thing it's imitating!

Holymosquito · 27/10/2018 17:07

posh Italian chain. Ordered minute steak, medium rare. the tiny, odd shaped steak on my plate was still mooing and so tough I couldn’t cut it with the steak knife. After 2 attempted mouthfuls I had to send it back. To be fair to them they replaced it with a huge freshly cooked sirloin. but I then made myself sick on it not wanting it to go to waste.

Whitecurrants · 27/10/2018 17:08

Boisdale in Victoria. I was served raw liver - not seared or rare but almost completely raw and also with connective bits in because it hadn't been prepared properly. When I drew it to the waiter's attention he got snotty and told me I didn't understand how it should be cooked. This was a few years ago but stuck in my mind not because of the raw liver but because of his attitude.

Chalkhillblu3 · 27/10/2018 17:08

A long time ago went for an afternoon tea at a posh half timbered tea room in Stratford upon Avon. They seemed to employ only child labour and one poor young waitress fell right down the (narrow crooked) stairs right next to us with a full tray.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 27/10/2018 17:08

A supposedly 'posh' country house hotel. Went there with some girlfriends for a birthday lunch. The meals were all equally dreadful in such a variety of ways that it was almost impressive. From the Caesar salad topped with inexplicable coconut shavings, to the chicken escalope that was actually still frozen in the middle, via the 'mushroom' soup that was so salty that it was essentially a bowl of brine. We complained and were offered a voucher for a half price meal 'next time'. Unsurprisingly, we never went back. It's now under new management, but we still haven't risked it!

The chippy directly opposite the Tower of London. I specifically told DH to not go there as I guaranteed it would be awful but he overruled me.

I was right. It was vile (and expensive!). Even DH agreed it was a big mistake.

Shockers · 27/10/2018 17:12

A Chinese buffet place on the corner of a back street in Leeds. We were there for the party of someone who was a student in Leeds who obviously thought it was great value.

It was filthy.

Rosehip10 · 27/10/2018 17:16

Jamie's Italian in Newcastle - cold, average at best food, surly staff and 45 mins wait for said cold food. Took 15 min for a menu to come to table

Shockers · 27/10/2018 17:18

We once had a really good meal at Jamie’s Italian in Manchester. There were nine of us and we all enjoyed our food.

It was quite a long time ago though.

ChodeofChodeHall · 27/10/2018 17:21

I don't know if it's still there, but the worst restaurant experience I have ever had was at the Little Bay in South Croydon. The food was so minging it was actually funny, and they had poorly-drawn cartoon porn on the bathroom walls (like, deliberately: not graffiti).

fuzzyduck1 · 27/10/2018 17:25

The thrasher Ipswich got two orders wrong one meal didn’t turn up Seafood salad didn’t have any seafood in it. We had paid upfront but sent all the food back
Part of the hungry horse chain.

McDonald’s ordered filet of fish without tartare sauce opened the box just got an empty bun.
