Wow! Didn't read before I posted! But a lot of bad reviews for Jamie's!

Titsywoo · 28/10/2018 13:45

JRC Global Buffet in Croydon. The kids wanted to try it. I didn't eat loads and stayed away from things like rice as I didn't trust it but I still had a stomach ache and the shits for over a week afterwards.

mrsoutnumbered · 28/10/2018 13:46

Not really food related but the toilets in Jamie's Norwich are REVOLTING. Broken wooden toilet seats that were manky with piss and looked like they hadn't been cleaned for months.

Ohheyyy · 28/10/2018 13:47

Frankie and bennys. Been 3 times to 3 different branches, twice has the food been awful and the servers rude.

I don't understand why people like the place.

grumiosmum · 28/10/2018 13:53

You would expect hot smoked salmon to be served cold normally.

It means it was smoked with hot smoke, which 'cooks' it, rather than cold smoke, which gives rise to the slightly fatty texture you might normally associate with smoked salmon.

jezebelz thank you so much for reminding me of Mr Wu’s! We used to eat there as teens all the time - it was £5 a head in those days. A quick google reveals that it is, amazingly, still in business.

My worst ever was a Little Chef just outside Edinburgh. We went there as a desperate measure. Baked potatoes took about 45 mins to come and were completely raw in the middle. Ive been served some crap food over the years but that’s the only time it has been physically inedible.

greencatbluecat · 28/10/2018 14:32

Jamie's Italian, central London. In particularly remember the choc brownie ice cream sundae ...... it had literally only one tiny crumb of brownie in it. It was far more expensive than Pizza Express too, where the food is always good.

I can't understand why some of you don't like Nando's. I think it is ok.

AllAboutHallowsEve · 28/10/2018 14:33

"DP is a chef and he friends that work in Bella Italia, apparently everything including the pizzas is frozen and just heated up"

TheMobileSiteMadeMeSignup · 28/10/2018 14:36

Another vote for Planet Hollywood in London. I was in quite a few years ago now and will never go back. We sat for ages before even our drinks order got taken, they forgot one of the dinner orders which took ages to get and then brought our bill and disappeared. Like we were on the verge of just walking out because we couldn't even see any staff despite the restaurant being busy. In the end we decided that we would walk out holding the bill and if we passed a member of staff we would pay otherwise we were gone. We did actually pay but not before a rather long moan to the staff member. The worst thing is we all worked in a restaurant and know we'd have been fired if we'd been that crap.

thenightsky · 28/10/2018 14:37

Fieldsofcabbages

It wasn't in Scarborough was it? I had melted cheese curry there instead of cubes of paneer - utterly disgusting. I threw the whole lot up in some roadworks as I walked back to my hotel.

PawneeParksDept · 28/10/2018 15:01

There's a report in the news today (Telegraph) I think basically suggesting that most of Jamie's restaurants (the chain ones anyway) are expected to go under, as Jamie said he can't afford to keep propping them up. I think only his London ones will remain

cannotmakemymindup · 28/10/2018 15:12

I think all restaurants should look at these complaints listed if they want to survive.
Cold, frozen, burnt, undercooked, tiny, bland food (sometimes all of the combination) will never ever get you repeat customers and nor will terrible service.

Chwaraeteg · 28/10/2018 15:18

A place called The Black Castle in Bristol. It's a massive fake castle basically. It's freezing cold inside because they clearly can't afford to heat a place that big, there are rat traps outside the kitchen door, the bar staff are extremely surly and the service is beyond slow. Despite this I have been there three times. They do a good burger and my daughter loved having dinner in a castle.

TakeAChanseyOnMe · 28/10/2018 15:36

@pyramidbutterflyfish my friend was once in the Nando’s in Gatwick and they had no chicken!

Mine was a small town cafe, ordered a bagel and cream cheese. The bagel was so hard that I couldn’t even cut it.

Gildashairflick · 28/10/2018 16:33

Marco Pierre whites restaurant in Sloane sq. average food, terrible service and no reply to the complaint I later submitted as staff on the night couldn't give a shit. Miller and Carter's - I've had better steaks in weatherspoons. A place in York for a works Christmas do, tried to charge for 4 bottles of wine we didn't have, were still bringing some starters out when the main course was coming out for others who had finished 20 mins earlier (there were only 8 of us) and a creme brûlée that instead of a Demerara sugar glaze had a digestive biscuit on top of the most gelatinous creme I've ever seen. Think pork pie jelly and you have the right consistency.

KitschBitch · 28/10/2018 16:58

Really don't want to be adding to this thread in the future, can anyone recommend somewhere great but not too expensive close to Abbey Road Studios, taking DH there to see a show for his birthday. Wink

Lilyhatesjaz · 28/10/2018 16:59

We had a nice meal in the st austell (Cornwall) frankie and bennies. Our local one is a bit hit and miss.
Harry Ransdoms in Bournemouth was memorably bad.

Shockers · 28/10/2018 17:02

It’s quite sad that the ‘best places to eat in the UK’ thread has died off somewhat, and this one is still going strong!

rosettesforjill · 28/10/2018 17:13

@Shockers one of the most mentioned restaurants on the best restaurants thread gave my poor DH terrible food poisoning - he was off work for a week - and they refused to accept it could possibly have been their food. It couldn't possibly have been anything else given timing!

We both enjoyed it while we were eating the food though 😂

Whatsnewwithyou · 28/10/2018 17:22

It's strange about Jamie's Italian as his cookbooks are so good. Really I prefer my own home cooking to eating in restaurants nowadays - its reliably pretty good, cheap, and fairly hygienic ... and DH does the washing up!

Enidthecat · 28/10/2018 17:43

Frankie and bennys at East Midlands Airport. Honestly so awful. Sent back my first main choice as it had large whole lumps of garlic and such an unpleasant taste. They brought me a margarita pizza to replace it which was caked in flour and just awful. The potato skins were obviously microwaved and horrible. Just dire.

Jamie's Italian Guildford was dirty and food awful.

Bill's horsham I once had a mac and cheese that was cold in the middle. Yuck.

BoomTish · 28/10/2018 17:47

I’m not from, not do I live in, the UK. Reading this thread, and from holidaying in the UK, it’s amazing how many (bad!) chain restaurants there are. There are chains where I’m from, but tend to be fewer and further apart. Independent restaurants and gastropubs are more prevalent, thankfully.

Uncooperativefingers · 28/10/2018 18:01

I once ordered a vegetarian ravioli dish in Carluccios Leicester. The kitchen had run out of the ravioli, but didn't tell me and instead substituted it for a meat ravioli, but kept the sauce the same. Not only is that bad, but the sauce didn't taste right with the ravioli filling either!

When I called the waitress over to complain that it wasn't what I ordered, she couldn't see the problem with substituting part of a dish advertised as veggie with meat. I had to speak to the manager in the end to get them to swap it for something else without charging me twice. Never been back!

SimplyPut · 28/10/2018 18:06

Jamie Oliver's diner, Piccadilly Circus. Dreadful!

dontalltalkatonce · 28/10/2018 18:15

Mosque kitchen in Edinburgh. Weirdest looking and tasting chicken I've ever had.

What a pity. Used to be good about 10 years ago.
