In your school? That happened to come out as the truth, or a lie?.
Just finished reading a really good thread on it and would love to hear more.
When I was in school the rumour was the classic someone put a mars bar somewhere it shouldn't... and that a teacher was having an affair with a pupil. (Wasn't true). Oh we also had the pe teacher apparently having an affair with the English teacher. That was true!.

That one of the nuns threw a girl down the stairs and broke her arm. It’s still a rumour 27 years after I left the school !!

Violetparis · 28/10/2018 17:42

Bizarre rumour in my high school in the late 80's was that one of the staid Geography teachers was behind the 'Doctorin The Tardis' song.

frogface69 · 28/10/2018 17:45

Our history tutor had an very much open relationship with a girl at school, they officially became an item at the leaving do, got wed and are still together over 30 years later.
The skinhead rumour. Gangs of skinheads were invading schools and knifing kids. Not true !
A man badly dressed as a woman in a white car was trying to abduct girls on the way home. Not true !
Two teachers were lesbians. True but nobody really cared much.
A science tutor lived in a tent in the lab techs garden. Not true !
Deputy head was married to a nazi. He was German.
Lots more when I can think...

ShinyBadger · 28/10/2018 17:51

Oooooo I went to boarding school, So many.... All turned out to be true!

  1. 1 was 10 and told my mum that the teacher had to always touch my friend in class and give her stickers.... he had to help stick them conveniently to her chest and touch her boobs! .... I was told not to make things up..... 10
Years later he gets fired for sexual harassment, inappropriate touching, sexual contact, sex etc many young girls.

  2. One of the housemasters liked to offer evening study for the 14 year olds -18 year old .... rumour has it this was with wine and cheese... turns out it was wine, cheese, 3sums, for boys only! He was sacked!

  3. The geography teacher was pregnant - baby’s father was the PE teacher..... year 11 was pregnant too.... the PE teacher was also her babies father....

Vivianebrezilletbrooks · 28/10/2018 17:54

I have two. The first is not so much an rumour but is related to other posters comments. I missed the school bus one Friday afternoon when I was 15/16 and one of the maths teachers offered to give me a lift home. He was a young chap, he didn't teach me but I had seen him around school. I did live far from the school and he gave me a lift all the way home. I did think it a bit odd at the time and I felt slightly uncomfortable but nothing happened. I found out some time later from the local paper he'd had an involvement with a pupil. His picture was in the paper so I recognised him straight off.
The other some people at least might know what course I did at college from.
Here goes...
When I was at college one of my tutors had a liaison with another student on my course whom was only 16 at the time. The college knew about it, so did all the students(at least on my course, dunno about other courses)but the college brushed it under the carpet and did nothing. There was a trip to Amsterdam(I didn't go, thankfully) which was a total disaster. The tutor and said student had a row and the whole mess got known about by the staff and students of the other courses and the entire trip got cut short due to students running riot in the hotel as they were mixed in with the general public and there was no end of complaints so they are asked to leave. I heard all of this through my best friend at the time who also told me said tutor was in a hotel room stoned with other students when she should have been in charge and something about a stolen plant. The tutor was in tears in the reception of the hotel when they were asked to leave and luckily the coach driver was understanding. On return to the UK the story got made public, the student had a news reporter sat outside their house for three hours until their dad chased them off and said tutor was suspended then fired (as the college had to be seen to be doing something about it) and we had an acting course tutor for the remainder of our course. She ended up getting a job teaching in another college but a lower ranking college. The first I knew of the trip being cancelled though was seeing one of the other tutors outside college and thinking he was back early and I asked and he said I didn't want to know.
Years later I bumped into one of the students from one of the other courses I knew at the time and told him and he told me she was his girlfriend now. Oops.

History teacher had been caught stealing French knickers from M&S.

This rumour was so massive. Once we had her when our art teacher was off...she handed round paper and pencils and told the class to draw an advert. Every single pupil did an M&S ad for French knickers.

While I was still there the local paper ran an article about the rumour and how it was untrue and the teacher would be taking legal action against people spreading the rumour.

It must have really upset the poor woman.

tillytrotter1 · 28/10/2018 18:08

The Mars bar story was Marianne Faithful I believe in her Rolling Stones days, sorry if it's on one of the other pages.

Thesexyskeleton · 28/10/2018 18:14

Outing possibly, but when I was in Y10 our new Music teacher had a breakdown.
He left his wife and newborn daughter and ran off with a 15/16YO student. Every student knew he was having it off with a student, the staff ignored it, they used to do concert performances together, always singing phantom of the opera duets. Hmm
Bloody took everyone’s GCSE coursework when he ran off too, to top it off.

SheBangsit · 28/10/2018 18:16

That the local priest was a paedophile. He came to my house to take photographs of me. My mother went mental 'at me!' when she found out his nickname was Father Feely. Sure I didn't know what it meant! He was moved on to a different parish as was the practice in the 80's. Never heard of him since.

Maelstrop · 28/10/2018 18:26

@Justyou I’m going to pm you and the other potential!

frumpyheron · 28/10/2018 18:34

Psychology teacher was an alcoholic who drank throughout the day. I suspect it was true given that he hardly taught us anything and forget to submit our A-level papers

tillytrotter1 · 28/10/2018 18:40

However there was also a rumour that she had a gun in her bag and a gun in her desk so we were all very well behaved that year.

That sort of rumour is probably started by the teacher! Good idea too.
We had a very strict English teacher, it was rumoured he'd been in the SAS or similar and was trained to kill sudden noises! I later found him to be a very gentle, caring person, he was a member of our church years after I'd left.
There was a Biology teacher who had an affair with a 6th former, they subsequently married and she returned to the school to teach PE, he was still there.

jcsp · 28/10/2018 18:42

We, teachers, started a rumour/story.

We used to take y9 pupils to Malham. Near the tarn is a field centre. We told pupils that it belonged to one of our colleagues parents.

Every year we added a bit more to the story, freezing the tarn for his 21st birthday, riding horses inside etc. We made out that his parents were loaded.

Some pupils had been to the visitors centre and so the story was modified to include death duties and giving the centre to the nation and that they had a flat there.

The story went on for years, even to the point of pupils asking the colleague about seeing his parents’ house. It just became part of the conversation and pre visit lessons.

Not true.

Funny the things children pick up on and also miss. They missed most of the adulterous and gay relationships ( this was in the 80s and 90s) but came up with others that weren’t true.

However we all missed the colleague with a collection of child porn pictures. We didn’t know until the police turned up and took computers.

wooo69 · 28/10/2018 18:44

thenightsky Sounds like you went to the same school as me

Otterses · 28/10/2018 18:57

The German teacher only had three toes on one foot.

It WAS true ... she put her flip flopped foot on my desk one summer.

toxic44 · 28/10/2018 19:00

That the PE teacher (all-girls grammar school) was a lesbian. She used to come into the changing rooms and say, 'Take off your vests,' and stand watching us.

ButtMuncher · 28/10/2018 19:06

Music teacher was a paedophile - true, he absconded the country and was brought back and charger.

PE teacher was sleeping with year 10 girls - true, he got with one of them for a couple of years and moved onto the next one.

My form tutor was gay - never knew if that one was true but never bothered me, I adored him, he was fab and then died a few years ago which was super sad Sad

History teacher was a chain smoking alcoholic - true, but she was ace and so good to me at school.

ButtMuncher · 28/10/2018 19:07

Oh and there was one about a male student using a crisp packet as a condom. I think that one is a huge myth Grin

OmJoey · 28/10/2018 19:13

Same as some others have posted...
History teacher was having an affair wirh student after being married to one of the science teachers (was true)

That another history teacher was ex nun and therefore militant (not sure if she was just strict)

English teacher was inappropriate in class with girls (not true, he was lovely man and the girls enjoyed being vicious to him with such rumours)

Nannewnannew · 28/10/2018 19:18

The female music teacher apparently was a lesbian and lived with the also female PE teacher. The PE teacher was quite ‘butch’ and this was considered quite a scandal (according to us pupils!) as same sex relations were still illegal at that time! 🙀

Purplealienpuke · 28/10/2018 19:19

There were a few. Lesbian (true) pe teacher a perv. She did like slapping girls backsides with wet towels as they were getting out of the shower 🤮.
Language teaching with sight impairment used to touch girls up under the guise of feeling for your tie (definitely true).
Art teacher shagging a yr 4 (15/16) boy. Unsure of that one.
Primary school we had a nasty little maths teacher. He picked his nose ALOT. He earned a fetching nickname. Fast forward 15yrs. My dad tells me there's a nasty little man drinking in his local. Low and behold....... He hadn't changed a bit, not even his clothes by the looks of it 😂

Lenmaw · 28/10/2018 19:28

Physics teacher peadophile (high school)!true, was convicted

Music teacher pedophile (primary school) : true, was convicted

Sithnformer raping younger girls: true, convicted

Geography teacher illegal immigrant.. sadly true, he was lovely.

We should give kids more credit.

pteradactyl · 28/10/2018 19:34

There were a few rumours at my school:
My form tutor was ina relationship with the art teacher - no idea, but I doubt it was true.

Same (male) form tutor was in a relationship with a male science teacher - ridiculous. They knew the rumour and used to wind us up with it saying "goodbye darling! We are so in love" and such like. We loved it haha

PE teacher was a lesbian - true

Boy in my class was dating an English teacher - true. They married when he was 18 and had 2 kids. Since divorced though, I believe

April2020mom · 28/10/2018 19:36

My mom currently works at a middle school as a teacher. She teaches sixth seventh and eighth grade classes. All of the sixth graders love to make up rumours.
Some are strange yet true and others are unfounded. Sixth grade kids love to make up stories. Middle school students thrive on drama in general she learned.
