Please help me decide. Was a thread that I still believe is running about unique names and how awful they are and so on.

I want to avoid that. My last two names are Aurora and sapphire.
Please help me decide one.

And honest thoughts before it's to late to turn back.

Brutal honest opinions. Thanks Smile

They are both great names

For strippers

22anddrowning · 28/10/2018 01:17

Aurora is beautiful I had this in mind for my dd but dh said no :(

TheSmallAssassin · 28/10/2018 01:20

Go for Sapphire then if you have a boy you can call him Steel.

CandyCreeper · 28/10/2018 01:21

I actually know 2 people irl with daughters called sapphire. I didnt realise it was seen as a bad name, I dont get whats bad about it! its not my taste personally though but these comnents are ott.

Obviouslynotobvious · 28/10/2018 01:28

Don't blame the OP for not coming back. Asked for help to decide between two names and some people have slated them both!

Aurora is my favourite.

Whitecurrants · 28/10/2018 01:33

Not keen on either but that’s just my taste. Maybe pick the one you prefer then add in a couple of less out there middle names so she has a choice? Assuming it’s a girl?

AgnesBrownsCat · 28/10/2018 01:27

Neither .

MemoryOfSleep · 28/10/2018 04:49

One of my late ancestors was a Sapphire, referred to as Fire. I like it.

I know a couple of Auroras born this year, for me it's a bit common.

sofato5miles · 28/10/2018 04:53

I have just listened to The Allusionist podcast about names, where two sisters show are called Emerald and Sapphire contrubuted, amongst others. Stripper name came up and a difficulty living up to the connotations of artistic, unusual etc.

OneStepSideways · 28/10/2018 04:57

Aurora is nice. Not Sapphire! It's like calling your child Krystal or Ruby or Diamond 😫

OneStepSideways · 28/10/2018 04:59

Also bear in mind Aurora will be called Rory by almost everyone

MsHopey · 28/10/2018 05:40

I've known a Sapphire who shortened it to Saffie. But gosh, Fire is probably the coolest NN I've ever bloody heard!
I also don't have a problem with Aurora, probably a bit too popular for my liking at the moment but these things happen.
I wouldn't ever ask on MN about name choices, all mine and DHs family hate both our boy and girl choices and we couldn't give the slightest fuck.
It's our baby, it's our choice.
I know I 100% would get flamed by every single person on here, I wouldn't dare risk asking because I know people would try and ruin it for me.

Underpressureidiot · 28/10/2018 06:34

I’ve heard of about fifteen aurora’s in my local area - parks farm insta etc - and I honestly can’t stand it. Children struggle to say their r’s for a surprisingly long time, if it would bother you that none of her “fwends” could call her the correct name then don’t choose it. She will definitely be “Aurora S” or whatever your surname is as there will be so many by the time she’s at school. Also, as PP have said, both are names of cruise ships..

Riojasmooth · 28/10/2018 06:45

Aurora is a horrible name. It just doesn't flow nicely off the tongue. Not a pretty word.
I prefer Sapphire but not by much.

Creepyexgirlfriend · 28/10/2018 07:41

I think Aurora and Aria could be the new Olivia and Amelia.

Tiredtomybones · 28/10/2018 09:01

I prefer Aurora of the two. I know a teenage Aurora, with the NN Auri, pronounced O-ree, with the O like in "on".

Skyhighfly · 28/10/2018 09:30

I would assume the parent's of sapphire were teenagers or extremely chavvy.
So it's a no from me.
Aurora slightly better but still a no.

CoughLaughFart · 28/10/2018 09:52

But surely anyone could predict that possibility when asking the question?

I’m not planning on any children of my own, but if anything changes, I sure as hell won’t be canvassing opinion on their names on the internet.

Pondandlake · 30/10/2018 16:28

Just called your child a normal name. Why would you want to make your child's life harder with a silly naff name.

EthelHallowsBroomstick · 30/10/2018 19:40

Why would you want to make your child's life harder with a silly naff name.

Because otherwise how will people know how unique and special they/you are? Wink

Alicatz66 · 30/10/2018 20:05

Bit Disney

Pollysuesie · 10/01/2019 18:47

A lot of did like for the name sapphire on here. It's not chav or stripper op plus no one would really say that in rl

buttonup26 · 10/01/2019 18:51

Really sorry but don't like either of them.

User758172 · 10/01/2019 18:53

Zombie thread!

liverbird10 · 10/01/2019 19:26

Sapphire is horrendous.
