Aurora or sapphire?

Please help me decide. Was a thread that I still believe is running about unique names and how awful they are and so on.

I want to avoid that. My last two names are Aurora and sapphire.
Please help me decide one.

And honest thoughts before it's to late to turn back.

Brutal honest opinions. Thanks Smile

‘A posh dinosaur’ GrinGrinGrin

MrsStrowman · 26/10/2018 15:22

Why not Sophia or Sophie?

TellMeAboutRedditch · 26/10/2018 15:24

Sapphire sounds like a stripper's name.

I guess if Aurora is the only other choice then it's okay.

TatianaLarina · 26/10/2018 15:24

Aurora is beautiful.

An awful lot of women watch Disney on here, but they don’t represent the whole population.

Sophia pronounced the 18c way - Suhfire - is very like Sapphire but not so naff.

Creepyexgirlfriend · 26/10/2018 15:25

Neither tbh.

DailyMailFail101 · 26/10/2018 15:25

Neither....sorry

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 26/10/2018 15:26

Aurora

hammeringinmyhead · 26/10/2018 15:27

Brutally honest? Neither. Not even as middle names. Try and imagine a 30-something woman signing off work emails as Sapphire.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 26/10/2018 15:28

I really like Aurora but it's definitely having a moment. Your kid's school will be full of them.

hallodarknessmyoldfriend · 26/10/2018 15:29

I don't like either one of them. Sapphire sounds tacky.

Aurore is a nice french name (if pronounced correctly Grin ).

Mugglemom · 26/10/2018 15:30

I love Aurora.

mummymeister · 26/10/2018 15:30

Neither of these names are unique. But at least they are both equally awful. they sound great for little girls but I wouldn't want to be an adult called Aurora. The bounty website predicts that the following will be popular in 2018/19. The number is where they are currently in the top 100.

Hallie 86
Aurora 82
Luna 54
Orla 71
Harper 22
Bonnie 90
Zara 61
Ivy 21
Lottie 56
Clara 98

HippoLatte · 26/10/2018 15:32

Yeah I'm in the neither camp too, sorry. They're pretty wishy washy kids names, not really suitable grown up names although I suppose Sapphire could be shortened to Saffie.

LtGreggs · 26/10/2018 15:37

I thought this was going to be a thread about cruise ships (I work in the industry). Both of those are the names of cruise ships. Sorry...

Azure83 · 26/10/2018 15:39

Aurora - lovely
Sapphire - tacky af, basically a stripper name

Orangecake123 · 26/10/2018 15:39

I have a cousin Sapphire.I'd go with aurora.

Warmworm · 26/10/2018 15:41

I find Aurora hard to say...is it just me? Might be my Scottish accent.

I like Rory as a nickname though.

SippingSipsmith · 26/10/2018 15:41

Really sorry not keen on either but throwing in Aria as a lovely alternative that sounds like Aurora and you might like as well.

nornironrock · 26/10/2018 15:42

Genuinely opened the post thinking this was about naming cats.

Aurora is the lesser of (in my opinion) two evils. But then, my children have very traditional names.

One piece of advice I got given - remember that one day they will have to apply for jobs. I know that can sound snarky, but opinions have been sought....

GoulashSoup · 26/10/2018 15:46

I actually quite like both but prefer the sound of sapphire. The nn saffy makes me think of Safron from Ab Fab.

Unfortunately I think gem names can be a bit tacky, but I think it also depends on the way a person presents themselves.

mummymeister · 26/10/2018 15:47

I had an unusual surname before I was married. I had to spell it every single time I spoke to someone official on the phone. every. single. time. it was always misspelt at conferences and I have lost count of the number of documents that needed returning to correct it. I married someone with a really common name only really spelt one way and I made sure that all of my kids had names that had easy and known spellings for this reason. Unusual might be fun but think of the years of misery to come.

Juells · 26/10/2018 15:50

HRTFT Is it just me or does Sapphire sound like a porn star? Saffie is lovely though.

PositiveVibez · 26/10/2018 15:51

Sapphire is awful sorry OP, but you did ask. Also depends on your surname.

If it's something like Higginbotham, avoid at all costs.

Aurora is the lesser of two evils.

Ribeebie · 26/10/2018 15:55

I love Aurora

TatianaLarina · 26/10/2018 16:00
