Aurora or sapphire?

Please help me decide. Was a thread that I still believe is running about unique names and how awful they are and so on.

I want to avoid that. My last two names are Aurora and sapphire.
Please help me decide one.

And honest thoughts before it's to late to turn back.

Brutal honest opinions. Thanks Smile

I've always loved the Ruby, Emerald, Sapphire, Amber, Pearl, Amethyst, Opal type names but they seem to trip of the tongue best which paired with a short, sharp family name. Like Sapphire Blake, Emerald Jones, Ruby Davis, Amethyst Holt etc.

I call it the James Bond school of Naming where you pair a more unusual first name with a short family common Family name.

Vesper Lynd
Christmas Jones
Tiffany Case
Honey (Honeychild) Ryder
Domino Deval
Plenty O'Toole
Paris Carver
Electra King

I'm not usually a fan of way out names but I like both. There's a fantastic John Martyn song called Sapphire.

BlueSuffragette · 27/10/2018 06:20

Sorry but hate both of them. Aurora marginally better.

AdoreTheBeach · 27/10/2018 06:33

Another vote for Aurora. Agree with other posters above, Sapphire sounds chavvy.

Youvegotafriendinme · 27/10/2018 07:22

Honestly don’t like either of them. Ones a precious stone and ones a Disney character

Ilovewheelychairs · 27/10/2018 07:24

Funny isn't it how some precious stone/jewel names are totally accepted and others are seen as 'chavvy'. Ruby and Pearl are frequently suggested! OP I personally like the name Sapphire but I knew a gorgeous one growing up, so it has lovely connotations for me :-)

Not so keen on Aurora, but that's just personal taste. Wait until you meet her, you might find one suits better than the other, or that she is a totally different name entirely! Best of luck with it all.

Labradoodliedoodoo · 27/10/2018 07:27

Like them both a lot but Aurora is particularly gorgeous. Aurora can be shortened to Aura or Roe.

Labradoodliedoodoo · 27/10/2018 07:30

Shapphire is a lovely name and similar to other jem names. Ruby Christal amber beryl

MyDressHasPockets · 27/10/2018 10:26

I think they are both lovely names and if you like them then don't listen to a load of strangers on mumsnet. Whatever name you put on here there will be someone that hates it.

I know a little girl called Juno Aurora which I absolutely love. Such a pretty name.

LakieLady · 27/10/2018 10:39

I used to love Aurora, because of its classical connotations, but it has got very popular (to my mate's despair, she has a 5 year old Aurora and the name was really unusual when she chose it).

I don't like gemstone names, to me they always sound a bit porn star.

Totallya · 27/10/2018 15:46

But a porn star could be called any name?

Stickerrocks · 27/10/2018 16:12

They are both cruise ships. Do you prefer P&O or Princess?

Dahlietta · 27/10/2018 16:23

But a porn star could be called any name?

I haven't carried out a study on porn star names, but I presume the assumption is that many of them have 'stage' names and if they were called Maureen, they might change their name to something like, I don't know, Sapphire, for professional purposes.

MathsQuery · 27/10/2018 16:27

Both naff.

ConciseandNice · 27/10/2018 16:28

Both are bloody awful.

pippitysqueakity · 27/10/2018 16:30

And no OP....

NotPennysBoat · 27/10/2018 16:31

I swear I see a post asking opinions about Sapphire every few months. Is it half term again? Is this for a hypothetical child?

Haahhpy · 27/10/2018 16:35

Oh, I really like Sapphire and personally prefer it to Aurora.

Don't agree at all with the comment about gem names being tacky. Names like Amber, Pearl, Ruby, Coral I would consider beautiful classic names.

MeMeMeow85 · 27/10/2018 16:38

I don’t like either, but Sapphire is dreadful. It really is a stripper name!

BatFacedOK · 27/10/2018 18:10

No I don't think hypothetical name. I think an existing child and name regret and op wants constant reassurance

Or it's just some really weird troll

steff13 · 27/10/2018 18:20

Why are people saying Sapphire is a “stripper name” confused Any reason? You could be a stripper called Claire.

The reason is because it sounds like what a stripper would call herself. There might well be a stripper called Claire, but they don't typically use their real names. Stormy Daniels, for instance, is really called Stephanie. But Stephanie (thankfully) isn't a stripper name.

Devonishome1 · 27/10/2018 22:54

Both are horrible to me,sorry!

Agustarella · 27/10/2018 23:22

They sound like names a little child would call their Barbie dolls.

I actually did have Barbies called Aurora and Antonia Sapphira! The DCs have them now. I still think Antonia is a nice name.

TellMeAboutRedditch · 28/10/2018 00:40

I don't think the OP is coming back.
