Aurora or sapphire?

Please help me decide. Was a thread that I still believe is running about unique names and how awful they are and so on.

I want to avoid that. My last two names are Aurora and sapphire.
Please help me decide one.

And honest thoughts before it's to late to turn back.

Brutal honest opinions. Thanks Smile

Aurora is okay, as long as they can pronounce their r s.

We had a Sapphira in nursery. When said aloud it just sounds like Sophia. Most people assumed that was her name. I didn't think it was tacky though.

hippopootamus · 26/10/2018 16:02

Sapphire sounds like a character in a Jackie Collins novel.

"Posh dinosaur" has made my day though!

ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 26/10/2018 16:13

Aurora is lovely. And Rory is very cute.

I do like Sapphire, but not as much as Aurora - Sleeping Beauty's name, and the Aurora Borealis is incredible. Can't go wrong!

MulderitsmeX · 26/10/2018 16:21

I love both, considered both for DC. Sapphire was my favourite although do agree it is a bit stripper but also so gorgeous!!
Posh dinosaur- Grin love it

RoboticSealpup · 26/10/2018 16:37

Aurora is the least worst and looks pretty in writing, but when you say it, it kind of just sounds like "awrawrawrawraw".

Lockheart · 26/10/2018 16:42

I like them both, but I'd probably avoid either of them for a first name. Could you use them as middle names?

XiCi · 26/10/2018 16:46

I opened the thread thinking please god let these be cat or dog names. I don't particularly like either but Sapphire is truly horrendous

SWMWAFC · 26/10/2018 17:19

Aurora isn't that uncommon anymore. It placed 80 in last year's girl's baby names.

Chocolateismyvice · 26/10/2018 17:30

'I think aurora is a horrible name sorry , it's sounds like the noise a posh dinosaur would make'

😂😂😂😂

Neither are great, but Aurora is the least worst. That being said, I've noticed a recent increase in popularity and I think it will become very dates soon enough.

HildaZelda · 26/10/2018 17:37

Aurora for sure.

Mandarine · 26/10/2018 17:39

OP, rather than Sapphire which has obvious connotations to the gemstone 💎 (and also conjures up an image of a girl who should have amazing, sparkling blue eyes Grin), have you thought of the Arabic-origin name Safia (or Safiya as an alternative spelling). You could even pronounce it “Saf-iy-a” rather than Saf-ee-a” if you want. So basically it could essentially sound like Sapphire, but have a more “proper name” rather than than “thing” spelling iyswim?

I think Aurora is nice, but to be honest, I would prefer Aurelia because it’s easier to pronounce and more of a person’s name as opposed to a term for the Northern Lights.

But either are good.

guiltynetter · 26/10/2018 17:40

sapphire is so cute. she could be called saffy for short

emss55 · 26/10/2018 17:41

You wanted brutal honesty so sorry but they are both awful. Sound like chavtastic names.

SaucyJack · 26/10/2018 17:42

I love the name Aurora, but if your daughter grows up with a touch of Jonathan Wossitis then you’re setting her up for a life of widucule.

Sapphire could be lovely. Could be stripper. Hard to say.

simonisnotme · 26/10/2018 17:43

honestly - neither, both awful kids names

PatriciaHolm · 26/10/2018 17:52

Sapphire is the name of the gold digging page 3 model in Billionaire Boy...

HisBetterHalf · 26/10/2018 18:01

Honest thoughts? Think both sound very pretentious

DonttouchthatLarry · 26/10/2018 18:11

I like the idea of Rory as a nickname.

donquixotedelamancha · 26/10/2018 18:17

Sapphire is lovely

I agree, as prostitute pseudonyms go, it's charming.

Processedpea · 26/10/2018 18:18

Disney names

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 26/10/2018 18:21

I like them both! Aurora is more of an actual name though, probably easier to carry off.

jaseyraex · 26/10/2018 18:21

Aurora has always been on my girls names list. Had 3 boys so never got to use it! I think it's beautiful.
My middle name is Sapphire and I had the piss ripped out of me relentlessly at school for it so I'd definitely avoid it as a first name.

LittleKitty1985 · 26/10/2018 18:25

If I met women called either of these I'd have a hard time taking them seriously.

Aurora sounds like "All whore her".

Sapphire is also terrible, as others have mentioned Sophie or Sophia would be much nicer. I called my cat Sophie because she has blue eyes (like sapphires).

UpLighter · 26/10/2018 18:29

 at some people's responses.

It is a name and as long as you are happy with it fuck what anyone else thinks.

BonnieF · 26/10/2018 18:29

Aurora sounds like a sports car. I can hear Clarkson saying ‘tonight I’m testing the new Toyota Aurora. It goes very fast”.

Sapphire is better, but she will inevitably be known as Saffy.
