Aurora or sapphire?

Please help me decide. Was a thread that I still believe is running about unique names and how awful they are and so on.

I want to avoid that. My last two names are Aurora and sapphire.
Please help me decide one.

And honest thoughts before it's to late to turn back.

Brutal honest opinions. Thanks Smile

I like both but I would go with aurora. It was in the running for my dd1 but I wasn't brave enough.

afrikat · 26/10/2018 14:58

Aurora. I love this name

CantWaitToRetire · 26/10/2018 14:58

If I'm brutally honest I don't like either, but that's just my personal opinion and many others will love them. Aurora to me is northern lights or Disney princess. Sapphire is just too precious (yes I know it's a precious stone LOL!) I like the variant Saphira, though I understand Sapphire is getting more popular these days. If I had to choose either, I'd definitely go for Aurora.

Andtheresaw · 26/10/2018 14:58

Aurora.
Sapphire just doesn't work well as a name.

crispysausagerolls · 26/10/2018 14:58

Why can’t children have normal names ffs - both of those are dreadful/sound like stripper names

CruCru · 26/10/2018 14:58

I prefer Sapphire. Aurora was the name of the princess in Sleeping Beauty (which, now that I’m an adult, I find a bit of a rank story). I’ve also met enough Auroras that I don’t think of it as an unusual name.

Will it annoy you if people shorten Sapphire to Saffie / Saf or misspell it?

OneforsorrowTwoforJoyce · 26/10/2018 15:01

They're both daft names tbh.

Sophia is beautiful though.

canyouhearthedrums · 26/10/2018 15:03

A small vlogging family are expecting a 'Princess Aurora'. In the nicest possible way they are not the brightest people, have loads of kids and the mum can't wait to 'have baybeee' so that she can get cosmetic surgery and botox. A lot of their viewers also have an Aurora. This would be enough on its own for me to never consider it.

sammylady37 · 26/10/2018 15:03

Neither, they’re both awful names.

Houseonahill · 26/10/2018 15:04

I think aurora is a horrible name sorry , it's sounds like the noise a posh dinosaur would make. I have a friend with a baby called aurora and every time she says it I cringe Blush

DancingForTheDog · 26/10/2018 15:04

I don't like Aurora at all. Sounds pretentious to me, a bit like Araminta. I'm biased about Sapphire as my DD2 has a friend of that name who I've watched grow up in very difficult circumstances and she is such an amazing, resilient, loving and all round delightful young woman. She's our Sapph, and I love the name because of her.

MichelleBolton · 26/10/2018 15:05

Saffi is pretty as a NN

sallievp · 26/10/2018 15:06

I love Sapphire so much! And I am definitely not a 'chav'!

EthelHallowsBroomstick · 26/10/2018 15:07

Sapphire is really trashy. Aurora is still a bit try hard imho and I find it a mouthful to say.

crivit · 26/10/2018 15:09

Aurora - great song but these days sounds a bit Disney-like.

Sapphire - Kick ass Joanna Lumley character.

On balance, Sapphire.

Omzlas · 26/10/2018 15:10

They're both stripper names IMO

Neither

liviadrusilla · 26/10/2018 15:11

Aurora. Lovely name and can be Rora or Rory as an affectionate nickname. Roman goddess of the Dawn so an interesting meaning behind it.

OneforsorrowTwoforJoyce · 26/10/2018 15:11

She's our Sapph - another reason not to call a child Sapphire.

needsanewname · 26/10/2018 15:13

I would choose Aurora but it's popularity is ever increasing.

Sapphire is very try hard to me, although I do like Saffy for a nickname - reminds me of a dear friend who was taken much too young.

daisypond · 26/10/2018 15:14

Aurora is far too Disney princess and a bit bland.
Sapphire is much better.

Tentomidnight · 26/10/2018 15:17

Neither.
Sapphire is a trashy stripper name and I know an Aurora and there are lots of areola/borealis/Disney jokes

bmbonanza · 26/10/2018 15:17

Sorry but both are terrible.....

nicebitofquiche · 26/10/2018 15:19

Aurora. Sapphire sounds like a lap dancer's fake name. Sorry.

MrsStrowman · 26/10/2018 15:20

Sapphire is a stripper name. Aurora is marginally better

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 26/10/2018 15:21

Our cat is called Saffy, and she’s a definite little princess. I don’t love either for a person though.
