Is she a Russian Blue or have I been ripped off?

Hello MN! Sorry I'm posting for traffic!

I got my beautiful kitten a few weeks ago. I was told she is a Russian Blue. I saw her mother and photos of the Father. However the seller has failed to forward on the family tree I was promised.

To me, she looks like a Russian Blue but I've noticed sometimes I can see she has stripes? Anyone have an experience with Russian Blues or know how I can check?

TIA

What a beauty (and matches the sofas!).

Whereisthegin1978 · 26/10/2018 20:00

Our cat is called Luna and looks just like her. She is a short hair apparently but a friend who has RB cats is sure she is to.
Beautiful cat

She’s beautiful but without pedigree papers she’s a moggy and looks like any other lovely grey cat to me, not a Russian. Any decent breeder would have had her registered with either the GCCF or TICA. The fact they’ve only bothered to offer a ‘family tree’ and haven’t even been true to their word on that speaks volumes.

Coffeeisnecessary · 26/10/2018 20:06

We had a lot of British blues growing up and they always had stripes as kittens which faded as they got older. She is beautiful!

BlueCurious · 26/10/2018 22:42

Poor Luna. No word of a lie, she has just jumped into the toilet and DH hadn't flushed AngryAngryAngry

Aww, poor little kitty.

If she's a tiny kitten you may prefer to keep the toilet lids closed. Unfortunately kittens can fall in the toilet and drown. Kittens are often curious about everything. (Our Gatsby is about a year old now and he STILL likes to get into things sometimes. Boxes are his favourite and he has a little Styrofoam box that we saved just for him.)

You may want to give her a nice dry-off with a towel for now.

She very sweet little girl.

BlueCurious · 26/10/2018 22:48

I reminded him only yesterday to keep the lid down! Angry Poor thing!

I have a pedigree and no papers because the seller was just overwhelmed. Unless you’re going to put her in the car shows, I wouldn’t bother.

I have spent the best part of 3 hours looking for a photograph of mine to post. She died aged 17 it must be 20 years ago. She was 10 weeks old when I got her and she looked just like yours. Gawky at first, but then they fill out. I will look again later.

Yes, it's awful how open to abuse and dishonesty the "pedigree" system is. As long as you have papers of two pedigree animals, you can have a pedigree.
Then again, the price of crossbreeds with silly names is through the roof now, too.

Wauden · 27/10/2018 11:01

Actually my first concern would be whether kitten has come from a kitten farm or not. The breeders seem dodgy. They are making typical signs.
My other interest is to get a rescue kitten or cat. I wold be more interested in the anumal's mental and physical health rather than supporting dodgy breedersand animal cruelty of which there are many cases, yours being one.

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 27/10/2018 11:03

What an absolute cutiepie

BFGgirl · 27/10/2018 11:06

It’s important when buying a pedigree to only buy from a registered breeder and get all the correct documentation at the point of collecting the kitten (at 13 weeks old earliest!). I’m not saying this to be a cat snob but to prevent the continued business of kitten mills who rip people off. Perhaps contact the gccf and see if this breeder is registered (if not gccf then may be TICA but they are the only two UK bodies). It may be that in this instance you’ve been ripped off but you’ll know for next time and you’ve got a beautiful kitten anyway regardless of the papers Smile

Teacher22 · 27/10/2018 18:02

Your kitty is clearly a fake from that picture and is in no way totally, off the clock, adorable. Do you want me to take her off your hands? Just as a favour?

Roseredvelvet · 27/10/2018 18:34

We had British blues when I was growing up and their downy kitten fur was stripy and spotty but once their adult fur grew in, you couldn't see the markings anymore. I think it's quite normal. Russian blues have a very dense coat as adults (two layers in winter, I think) so the markings should vanish. The breeder should've given you all the documentation when you picked her up. She's gorgeous Smile

dragonara53 · 27/10/2018 18:56

We had British short hair blue she was quite chunky with a more rounded head. The Russian blue is more Siamese like, very slinky lol we have a part Siamese part sphinx and he's lost his slinky look and has middle age spread but he is quite old now. He has the Siamese fur and features but his ears are bald and always have been. He's a little thief too and very rough and ready or he was lol. We have a ragdoll and she's quite posh and let's you know it too lol.

Leapfrog44 · 27/10/2018 19:02

what kind of fuckwit BUYS a cat?

FeckTheMagicDragon · 27/10/2018 19:11

The kind of nitwit that adores cats, but is incredibly allergic, but had found that they only mildly allergic to certain breeds :)

Is she a Russian Blue or have I been ripped off?

Same window, 9 years earlier. The start of a 9 year staring contest with a magpie.

That innocent little face hiding a whole load of mischief. What a stunning little cat. And the ears.

Sasstal67 · 27/10/2018 20:05

This is Misty, who we've been asked numerous times over the years if she's a Russian Blue, and her brother from the same litter, Tigger. They came from a farm.

She is gorgeous - just look at those toe beans. Did the owner ever mention a Prefix? It's like our surnames but goes before a pedigree cat's name and will be registered with either TICA or GCCF. If they did that would be easy to check with those bodies.

VocalCat · 27/10/2018 20:40

Is the breeder registered? Can you not contact the person you bought her from to ask where the papers are?

Nataliej2312 · 27/10/2018 21:42

I rescued my boy from the RSPCA and I swear he was a Russian Blue
