Is she a Russian Blue or have I been ripped off?

Hello MN! Sorry I'm posting for traffic!

I got my beautiful kitten a few weeks ago. I was told she is a Russian Blue. I saw her mother and photos of the Father. However the seller has failed to forward on the family tree I was promised.

To me, she looks like a Russian Blue but I've noticed sometimes I can see she has stripes? Anyone have an experience with Russian Blues or know how I can check?

TIA

Oh she is adorable. I want her too. I seriously can’t be bothered with the other stuff you are posting about.

Disclaimer If it’s anything like the Pedigree Dog world
The mum or dad could both be full pedigree but one of them might have restrictions on them . IE no breeding without the restrictions being lifted by the registered owner . This is often done to keep the bloodline the same ( if that’s makes sense )
So the person you bought it from may have had restrictions on the mother cat not to beeed and if she breeds they won’t allow the kittens to be registered as a Pedigree kitten as the restrictions say no breeeding

So while both mum and dad are pedigree and your kitten is a pedigree technically but without actual pedigree papers which means she isn’t a registered pedigree kitten

IF you paid pedigree prices you have probably been ripped of by about 50 percent of the cost of what she is actually worth ( on registered Pedigree kitten )
Any decent breeder of a cat or dog would be happy to show you the papers and you should get it when you collect the kitten as it’s then registered to you as the new owner with its new name and your details as the owner

She is lovely though

irunlikeahipoo · 26/10/2018 14:33

Disclaimer I am talking about Dogs but cats I would Imagine are pretty similar in terms of registering

emma6776 · 26/10/2018 14:34

I have a Russian blue and she looked exactly like yours as a kitten. They are the best cats ever. Mine is my second child.

BatCritter · 26/10/2018 14:34

I rescued this stray and I think he's as beautiful as any cat with papers. In some lights he has a few tabby stripes. He also has enormous testicles but they'll be snipped next week

Ennirem · 26/10/2018 14:38

Are you a breeder? If not why the hell does it matter?

FekkoThePenguin · 26/10/2018 14:40

Because if you bought a cat at a pedigree price then you'd be pissed off it if was a tabby in disguise.

Jins · 26/10/2018 14:41

My British blue still has a few ghost stripes at a year old.

She’s very cute

caringcarer · 26/10/2018 14:43

Her ears and face are correct shape. Ring and ask for her paperwork to be sent on to you. You really should have got it when collecting kitten. She is gorgeous though so unless you want to breed her does it really matter? We have a Bengal and never got her paperwork through but vet said looks like Bengal to him. Makes no difference cause we love her to bits.

Ennirem · 26/10/2018 14:43

Well if pedigree was important enough for you to pay for you'd be very foolish not to see evidence before handing over the money. Why people are fussed about one type of cat over another if they're not actually planning to breed or show I'm sure I don't know though. They're not accessories, if you want a 'designer' cat just for the sake of the name rather than "I like this particular cat, it is beautiful and has a lovely nature" then I think you're silly but if you are going to be that silly at least don't be daft enough not to substantiate your silly preferences before buying!

BlueCurious · 26/10/2018 14:46

I wanted a Russian Blue because they're supposedly better for people with allergies. I am allergic to cats and dogs. I don't react to Luna.

She’s absolutely beautiful and certainly has the characteristics of a RB, we’ve had three and this is ours as a kitten and a bit bigger. Such gorgeous cats.

I would say you shouldn’t have paid pedigree money wihout the proper paperwork from the breeder. Breeder prices are from £600 upwards.

Well if you don't react to her you got what you were after, surely?

irunlikeahipoo · 26/10/2018 14:53

A quick look on any of the pets selling sites-indicate that Pure Bred Russian blues with registered papers go for anything between £700 £900
and non Pedigree or cross ones from between £100 -£400
So that’s a big difference In price I would put money on it not being a pure pedigree without papers
We have our KC papers for our dogs in frames in the kitchen 😂

FekkoThePenguin · 26/10/2018 14:56

ok Ennirem - so if you bought an oak table would you check that it wasn't stained pine? Would you be pissed off if you later found out that someone had miss-sold you something?

We have never had a pedigree anything (mutts and mogs) but you can get certain breeds who are nice natured, laid back, good with kids etc.

Breeding, puppy farms and over breeding is another thing. I think you are being a it harsh here though - the OP just asked if her cat looked kosher.

Devillanelle · 26/10/2018 14:58

The breeder probably just hasn't done the paperwork yet, it's a bit of a pain to do. This is especially the case if they had the cat chipped for you as most people wait til at least 6 weeks to do this so the papers aren't always back by the time the cat goes to their new home.

FekkoThePenguin · 26/10/2018 15:00

Have they all got green eyes? They really are lovely. We had a big orange mog with eyes like that.

OnceUponATimeInAmerica · 26/10/2018 15:01

My rescue longhair 'Russian Blue' / Nebelung. He has all the breed traits and personality. He sleeps on my desk all day most days while I pretend I am working!

It would depend if there was a reason it had to be oak. If I was just after a sturdy table and it was one, I'd not be bothered and I'd only pay what it was worth to me on those terms. If for some reason it had to be oak (although can't think what that reason could possibly be) I'd make sure I was sure it was before buying, especially if it was a standard part of purchasing an oak table that the seller provide documentation proving that it was so before purchase!!

I just get irritated with animal breeds being treated like a sort of pick and mix, and certainly if it does matter to you it would be very silly just to take it on trust and then be bothered about it later on. I guess it seemed to me like the OP would consider herself to have been 'ripped off', like her (beautiful!) kitten would be somehow devalued just because she hadn't been thorough when buying her. I know people who would ditch the poor little thing on that basis.

Gemini69 · 26/10/2018 15:14

She's gorgeous... I love you wee girl cat Grin

FekkoThePenguin · 26/10/2018 15:17

I'm hearing your irritation! Its not like she has bought one of those poor dogs that can't breathe or see properly because of they've been bred to stupidity with their ridiculous wrinkles.

But back to the table - if you wanted a nice solid dinner table to seat 6 and saw a lovely one, slightly dearer than you wanted to pay and were told 'but it's made from oak, very sturdy, it will last you a lifetime...' and paid, you'd be pissed off it it was pine, even if it did still 'work' as a table because you'd been lied to.

Its the most gorgeous kitten though and I'm sure there are some bastards who would decide they didn't want a non-pedigree (my sister has had several pedigree dogs from a local GS rescue shelter). The OP sounds besotted though.

Cutthedrivel · 26/10/2018 15:18

No, that's not a Russian Blue. You've been had. Totally duped. How sad.
Anyhow, lucky for you I saw this.
I run a rescue for Leytonstone Lilacs, which is exactly the breed that cat is and it so happens I'll be in your area tomorrow, and conveniently I'll have my cat carrier with me.
I'll pick her up about 2pm and take her off your hands then you can forgot the whole sorry episode, yeah?

FekkoThePenguin · 26/10/2018 15:24

Maybe its a Glasgow Grey? Dundee Dove?

BatCritter · 26/10/2018 15:26

OnceUponaTime, so beautiful ❤

Ennirem · 26/10/2018 15:32

Except I wouldn't be pissed off, because I wouldn't believe some random telling me something if it mattered, I'd check!!!
